#Bad textures at distance

Yeah, noticing the same on PS5 with a few maps. Askiy and Scotland are majorly affected as well.
as far as i am aware this is intentional. and allot of other games do the same. basically the render distance is about 450yrds for animals and foliage, anything past that as far as foliage will see a down grade in texture. the reason for this is to improve performance, even with modern tech trying to render the full textures for the entire map 100% of the time is very taxing on the system so games will set a render distance and anything outside of that will have less textures. if they didnt do this you would experience allot more game crashes
This is true but this has been experienced even at 180-200yds which is not normal, and only happened as of the Scotland map releasing.
haven't experienced that myself yet, but that could be caused by the map layering they do where they build new maps on top of older ones. if any of the older map data is still there it could mess with the render. dont know if it is fixed yet but the scotland map does have audio bugs thanks to the map layering
Yeah, it’s on some maps more than others.
Also, for sure, it’s possible this is due to that. Still a bug as far as I’m concerned, honestly. It really messes with your experience when you’re looking directly at a clear animal 180yds away while the rest of the scenery is a blurry, blobby, geometric mess. We’ve gone years knowing that things stay in render distance up until 350-400, but at less than 200yds I really don’t think we should be seeing such low quality graphics.
For reference, here’s another post that’s gained quite a bit of traction about the same/similar issue: https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1437784609705168956
thats understandable! do you know if it happens more often on console? i am on a PC and the only thing close to that would be if i turned the haze or fog back on in the settings
I’m on PS5, so all I can say is that it definitely happens quite a bit there (as in, every time the map gets loaded), and obviously PS4 as well. I have heard it still happens on PC but I haven’t stopped to ask everyone what their settings are like. Most folks I know run theirs at ultra/maxed out graphics, regardless.
I’ve noticed it most on the newest maps but I’ve wandered back to base game recently and noticed it on Hirschfelden as well.
if it is less prevalent on PC it could be a console performance issue, i do know that they have been updating/detailing more and more animal furs so that in combination with some other stuff could cause textures to not load properly since the more they add the more it has to load. but yea either way it is a bug that will need to be addressed.
Yeah I understand the reason for LOD and helping performance, I just don't recall these particular blocky floating textures at a distance. Honestly think it would look better with just flat rock than super low res trees.
Do you see the same thing on PC? Silver Ridge or Cuarto are good maps to check it out. Would be interesting to know if it's just a console thing.
It's not as bad as what's in the picture at 1km but it does look like that going past that. It is still looks like maybe 3 polygons per tree tho lol
Ah ok, sounds the same then. This blockyness on PS5 only appears past somewhere in the 2-2.5km range
Yes, this issue affects all maps. My post about this issue: https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1437784609705168956
