#Respawns and grinds

So i want some words from EW about the last update. Since the update went out people are complaining that their grinds are not working anymore. Both the issues are in respawns and animals just not coming to their zones at all.
It doesnt matter if it is Herd managemnt or normal grinding. I tested both methodes on species and asked around in official and smaller cotw discords. And everyone says the same. EW did something in the update that messed up in the update that affects respawns and animals coming to their zones.

I had a while back a chat with the commute manager and she said that nothing has be found from their side. I dont agree with this.

There is definitely something that is happened in the new update that cause all of these problems. I know you guys at EW are looking into the haggis spawn issue. Please also check the respawn system and animals coming to their zones. Or just change it completely.

I know the times in the past when animals were ALWAYS at their zones without any issues.
But now grinding for some species is just impossible.
(I am very deep into grinding both herd management and normal grinding. And i will say that there is really something that was messed up in the update)
Maybe the best route is to ask the most skilled grinders in the commute to give you guys help at finding the problem.
It doesnt only affect grinding but also cusual grinding if animals dont show uo at there zones. And its becoming a real big problem.

Thought from EW?
Thoughts from commute?
Let us now below this post

I agree. I had to waste most of my money resetting the time just for the chance for the animal to actually pull up to their need zones.

because of this I took a break from the game, I still log in occasionally, after this problem appeared the game simply doesn't attract me at all. I did grind on mules and reset the time 10 times in a row and the animals didn't appear in their zones. EW instead of making the game better and more enjoyable, all they do is make the game go downhill and because of this they will lose old players who have been playing this game for years

Graywolf on Medved are not coming into their Zones. So I assume its a Map-specific-population problem

On Yukon the spawning into their zones seeming to be normal

We've been pushing for further investigation and the team is looking into it, but I don't have any answers at the moment. I promise when I do I will send an update.

I found the solution to this problem, I turn back time by 2 minutes in the game and all the animals appear in their zones. works very well for me, I played for 3 hours today and had no problems

In real life, the animals aren’t punctual, and that’s how it should be. In COTW, they don’t have to arrive on time all the time, and sometimes they don’t return until the next day after being scared off. That’s normal and part of the game.

No its not. Its a game. Not real life. Many things about the game arent realistic… they need the game to be interesting. Not making like the other hunting games. If cotw its gonna be like the other hunter games, it will lose players fast. I already know a couple people that quit because these issues are in play. And also in the commute i seen people quit.
Also they dont want to lose the people that played the game for a long time. These are the people that always buy the new dlc’s. And because of these issues described above the loyal players will be leaving the game. Most of the old players are also the pro grinders now. So its a lose for both sides.

Maybe it would help to mention, if you’re experiencing issues:

  • what methods you’re using to grind
  • what animal you’re grinding
  • what map you’re experiencing issues with
  • what odd behavior/bug is occurring

I’ve been grinding on PS5 for ages since the update came out, haven’t noticed any issues at all beyond the new feeder dlc 2 pack not working consistently and animals not bejng attracted by feeders whilst their zones are 100-200m away from feeders.

I have done grinds successfully in the last few weeks for:

  • whitetail on Mississippi
  • moose on New England, though askiy doesn’t seem affected either
  • mountain hare and other critters like red fox, red deer on Scotland are working fine using post feeders
  • boar drink zone grinding on Scotland
  • bear drink zone grinding on srp
  • wolf drink zone grinding on Yukon

My grinds currently.
-Red deer on te awaroa. They fine

-Fallow on te awaroa. Not checked.

-mulies on parque. Needed to stop that grind. They werent coming to their zones. Problem across the whole map

-fox emerald coast. Needed to stop the grind because i got no foxes to show up. Running whole map and only found 6 male foxes…

-whitetail on New england mountains. Needed to stop grind because animals where not coming to there zones.

  • Rocky Mountain Elk. Seem they sometimes work and sometimes just not. Same issues as discribed in other grinds. Since i stopped with the grind it didnt fixed it by itself.

-Barasingha. Trying to find all zones now to see if these are not broken. But cant find all their zones. Not all herds came to zones its seems like. (Had in the past way more zones and it doesnt change the amount of zones)

#

Its look like that not all species are affecter by the issues. And its also seems to vary by person. For some people they have no issues and others cant hunt most of the species.
Normally a time reset would work, but that doesnt even work anymore now.

I did all that and after 9 times to reset time and going back to main menu twice, they finally came in. But that was just for half of the herds. After that i just shot them. And the whole problem begin again.
I have not the time for this bull.
What they need to do is really look into it. Or get forced respawns back and cap the forced respawn at 15 kills or more to get it happened. And also change that animals are 9/10 times at their zones if you go there. (I am not the only one thinking that. I just the one that want to get some action into fixing it). So many people have this issue on so many animals. Casual and grinding people.
I dont want to see people leaving the game because of it. While i already did quit from time to time because it not playable on the species i want to hunt and get trophies of

# mild folio What you want is too easy, predictable, and monotonous. This playstyle—constant,...

I somewhat agree to the first part you said. It will get to easy but it was a suggestion. They also can meet somewhere in the middle and can figure something out.

But COTW is definitely to blame with the issues about people quiting. Its to annoying to even play. Its not playstyle if the game doenst work like it was intended. Before the update everything was fine (still not 100% but doable). But after the update there were so many issues with it that people just want/did quit the game.
I dont know how you play the game but the way i play the game is maybe the reason why i notice all these issues and want to get it thru to the EW team. So they can maybe find a fix on it.

I am not here to argue what everyones opinions. I am here about the facts en trying to give some ideas so the game is fun for every player in the game. No matter if your a casual player, normal grinder or HM grinder. All these type of people face the same problems.

I personally haven’t had any notable issues (since I mainly grind solo predators) so I won’t speak too much on it but I have seen people consistently complain about the boar feeders, which I think is tangentially related, and something people would’ve paid extra IRL money for. I wouldn’t be too surprised if something in the normal zones also got messed up between that and the haggis being bugged.

"Hello RS,

Thank you for contacting avalanche customer support!

I am sorry to hear that you are having some issues with respawn behavior in the Hirsch, Emerald Coast, Scotland, Te Awaroa maps.

Please note that following the latest update, fallow deer now follow updated population and respawn behavior that differs from some other species. Their appearance is linked to longer in-game time progression, population balancing, and need zone activity, which can result in a more gradual return after harvesting.

To help encourage fallow deer to reappear, we recommend the following approach;

Spend time in different areas of the map before returning to previous fallow deer zones, as respawns may occur in alternate need zones.

Advance time by several full in-game days rather then shorter time changes

Allow hunting pressure in fallow deer areas to naturally decrease before revisiting

Many players have seen improved results by combining these steps over a longer in-game period and our development team continues to monitor fallow deer population behavior to ensure it remains balanced and enjoyable."

Email in response to inconsistent respawns on fallow grinds. I'm focusing on the part in bold.

so can i just ask why the need to update fallow and probably other (great one) species' respawns was needed in the first place? because so far it doesnt seem to be very "enjoyable" as its snuffed some people's existing grinds and i dont rlly think anyone thought it was unbalanced besides people who just dislike grinding in general

Expansive Worlds has released new grinding advice for The Hunter: Call of the Wild, giving us rare insight into how respawns, population balancing, and need zones are actually working behind the scenes.

In this video, I break down the official EW response and compare it directly to the new grinding strategy that JBizHunts and I have been testin...

in the end its a game but its a game people, myself included, spend lots of hours on. im not sure why grinders need to jump through these continually added extra hoops when grinds already take a lot of time to set up and manage and then to up keep as the grind progresses. why cant animals just respawn without us needing to sniff out 500 different hidden reasons our animals might not be coming back? Grinds are fun. Grinds are not fun when we have to deal with stuff like this.

unless this updated behavior is something different to the problems being experienced in this thread but its hard to believe they're not related.

In the recent weeks of grinding I've noticed a few things....

-animals are almost never in the zones (mule deer, fallow, moose, whitetail, bears, etc.)

-respawns aren't working as well. I've been shooting some fallow and my respawns slowly slowed down to the point where when I'm rotating my map herds that used to have 2 bucks only have one now. This happened on my mule deer grind as well.

-Feeders don't pull animals anymore. I was excited to try and hunt some of the harder species with feeders but was disappointed to see that my boar feeders only worked if the actual zone was really far away from the feeder. The salt lick feeders also seem to only pull the animals that are over 200m away from the feeder and sometimes just not at all.

-(Xbox) If I shut off my console without quitting the whole game beforehand it will remove some of the paints in my inventory (tents, binos, and guns) and I have to replace them. Also sometimes when switching the reticle it takes your money but instead of changing to the selected one it will change to the mil-dot 01.

the only way I have to be able to get my zones to work is to menu travel to an Outpost change the time travel back and it works, Red Deer and tar work fine and i do not need to do this, before I tried this my Whitetail were not showing up now they do

I am now on parque for red deer (came from Te Awaroa were they also were working fine) after my mulies just failed. Red deer working fine and just get them to all their zones. Also the solos for Red deer show up like normal

But for mulies i did the exact same and exact same map and it doesnt work. Tried pop resetting to see if it fixes thing, but without succes. Some species are just truly broken and are impossible to grind.

hey @waxen nacelle, i wanted to ask a question. The update is in about a week. Are there any issues found that will be fixed regarding this topic of the thread?
I didnt hear anything about yet, so thats why i am asking.

I’d also like to sneak in and ask in combination with the above about if tigers going invisible so often is intended. Previously tigers only went invisible rarely but when I last grinded them it was more like a 90% chance, severely hindering grinds and extremely annoying. It’s not super on topic but it’s also another odd change that affects grinding.

before these changes i also went ahead and bought EVERY SINGLE DLC so i can grind more efficiently and change up the species

# candid lily Negative but the same buddy is on a mulie grind atm and his biggest struggle is ...

Yeah seen more people say that. And jbiz i know the youtuber, love him so much.

I did a couple of grinds now.
Fallow, whitetail, red deer and mulies. I did mulies on askey first, then after my g1 popped my map just broke. I just cannot get respawns on them anymore (very common issue on askey ridge from what i know). Btw that was a while back when it was released.
Then i decided to do mulies on parque because of the higher pop (i could make my HM way better with that) 200 kills in and they were acting up. Had around 45/50 herd zones. Which in 2 full runs on the map only 4/5 herds came which is crazy. I pretty knowledgeable in HM grinding but this was a first for me.
I did try many methodes to get it working again including a full pop reset. And it still hasnt worked. Same issue all over again. This goes for whitetail on NEM too.

Funny enough i have red deer on te awaroa. It was very good HMed but after couple 1000 kills i thought why not switch to parque (population is like 2.5x bigger then te awaroa).
And red deer on parque are just working fine. No issues at all.
So this just let us see that its really something they put in or a bug just on specific species.

Also did 3 non g1 species. And those also working fine. Respawn, solos and herds just always coming to their zones.

And to add to this. I heard like 20/30 people complaining about this exact same issues in just 2 days after releasing TORR update. Now its like wel over couple 100 times.

Glad its all working well for both of you guys!!

Yeah agree. The game after every update is everytime more frustating to play. I hate it. I really want to see the game grow even more. Like look at what they already did, its a amazing game and the last remodels and maps are a blast. Very very good work on EW part
But in regards of grinding, if they gonna keep this then the game will lose a big % of players. Most loyal players are grinders nowadays and there is no doubt about that. Its just a fact.

Did you grind mulies for long before this “update” that broke them? I’ve got to say I really haven’t noticed this at all, but I’ve been grinding mulies between now and when they dropped the g1. The most they do (as they’ve always done) is start to walk away from their zones when you’re going too fast. I’ve rotated on 30-50% of zones as well as entire pops at times. What exactly are you noticing and how many are you grinding? What exactly “isn’t working” and what do you mean by “broke” exactly?

I think patch notes are part of their feedback, honestly, aside needing to bring individuals in to help troubleshoot with the community or making posts acknowledging things like the haggis. They do talk to us, we just need to keep an eye out for the messages. I look forward to seeing what next weeks patches bring.

shadow python
# tight nymph Did you grind mulies for long before this “update” that broke them? I’ve got to ...

I did 2800 kills on them before g1 spawned. Before the g1 and then i would say the last 1000 kills there begin to act a little strange. Which i came with the plan to get more shooters, which worked kinda. Then after the g1 had spawned they just gave up.
Not coming to their zones and if they did, there were no respawns. I had 25 shooters at this point which should be enough by a long shot in that time period.

And i only did grind with HM so maybe thats something to do with that because mulie pop on askey is very low. So thats maybe why it broke.
But on a parque pop which has like 300 males and a whitetail pop on NEM which has also 300 pop shouldnt have any issues.
And they didnt, till the update dropped.

And btw. I already said what was not working…

Gotcha. Thanks. That’ll be good info for support/devs to have.

I will add, I’ve shot thousands on Askiy as well and only noticed what seemed to be normal behavior for them- the one mentioned previously, and the usual (non specific to them) not popping respawns for a while (although they always ended up coming back after brute forcing enough kills). You’re an experienced grinder as well though so I’ll spare you the typical “that could just be normal g1 grind funkiness” since that’s honestly what it sounds like. That being said, it’s obvious it’s causing issues for y’all so hopefully they can revert it back soon, if something was tweaked.

As per your btw- apologies, I didn’t see lol only saw you being vague about it. There’s a lot to scroll up for 😅makes things hard to read fully on mobile. My bad. They really need to make a “scroll to top” button for app users lol
