Back when the game launched, unlocking towers was a thing so I get it, you open towers in this game too to clear the 'fog of war'. And then the world moved on, and even Far Cry made fun of having to climb all those towers.
Given that as the player character you are invited or visiting some place somewhere, that you have a huntermate that is analogous to a PDA, is it all that realistic that you don't have access to a map? Maybe if there is no coverage in that area, but who goes to the middle of nowhere without a map or gets sent somewhere, again, without a map.
Add to that how once you unlock most towers you never use them again or go back to them again, and maybe something new needs to be done?
Why not make the towers and outposts into the same thing, and if visiting the towers is a way to make you go explore the map a little, give us more and more interesting points of interest to visit.
Maybe make it possible to teleport to those towers so that they have continuing use once the fog of war has been lifted locally?
Perhaps they could be integrated into some kind of structured mission, leading you around the map to the outposts, just please don't let it be lame, like 'take me a light bulb to this place'.
I just did a new game and dragging around map after map, climbing towers I will never use again, maybe it's just doing this so often in such a short space of time but surely there has to be a way to make them more interesting and not just a chore.
#Time to rethink lookout towers?

In newer maps the towers also are outposts already, plus if you have the right skill you can scout need zones from them so there actually is functionality for them past unlocking the map.
I wouldn't mind some other function to them but I doubt we'll see outposts added to older maps, I can't think of a time when they changed the maps post launch in such a way.
I do believe though that making them a teleport spot would be such an amazing QoL feature for everyone.
Those without the tent DLC would have more spots to teleport to for free and those of us that sometimes use em to scout need zones don't have to waste a tent or hike to them from the nearest point just for that
It's to make you explore the map, same with interest points and hunting structures. I never thought of it as an immersion issue
