#Turkey Weight Changes and Plumage Type Remaster

In the spirit of Thanksgiving (known as Turkey Day in my household) I am making this feedback thread on turkeys so they can hopefully change to be more accurate.

Per Nebraska Game & Parks, wild turkeys have four rare color phases in the form of smokey grey, black, red, and white. Black and white are both already represented in-game with melanistic, leucistic, and albino. However, red is underrepresented given the lack of erythristic plumages outside of the bronze types for Eastern Wild Turkey and the light brown plumage for Merriam's Turkey while smokey grey is not represented at all.

As such, I propose that a smokey gray plumage type along with a red or erythristic plumage type be added as rares for all turkey species. Smokey Grey in particular could have several variations.

In addition, the Light Brown plumage should be changed to a rare since it is a rare color morph in real life and have its color palette altered. In-game, they have white bodies with brown wing feathers when they should have a caramel brown body with a white flight feathers and feather fan. Moreover, all turkey species can exhibit light brown plumage. To account for this, the current Light Brown plumage of Eastern Wild Turkeys can be renamed to Pale Brown or Dusty Brown.

In addition to the plumages, the turkeys also need their weight ranges altered to be more accurate. This only applies to toms as the hens are accurate, but it is still a worthwhile change in my opinion to better represent average adults and increase the maximum to equate to IRL trophy birds:

MERRIAM'S TURKEY:

OLD WEIGHT:

  • Tom: 6.8 to 11kg

NEW WEIGHT:

  • Tom: 8.2kg to 14.23kg

EASTERN WILD TURKEY:

OLD WEIGHT:

  • Tom: 6.8kg to 11kg

NEW WEIGHT:

  • Tom: 8.2kg to 17.09kg

RIO GRANDE TURKEY:

OLD WEIGHT:

  • Tom: 6.8kg to 11kg

NEW WEIGHT:

  • Tom: 7.73kg to 16.86kg

As an added note, the maximum weights reflect the currently known heaviest toms of each species per the sources I could find while the minimum weights reflect the lowest weight i could find for a healthy breeding age tom.

These are epic, although I'm unsure about the exact allowability of posting dead animals in a feedback thread, which me and other moderators have removed images of before.

That said, these are fantastic options. Maybe repost with spoiler or post in IRL hunting and then link the comment?

It's all in good interest of game improvement and I dont think any of the other mods would particularly care

#

As an addendum to the plumage type list, i'd also like for piebald to be considered for turkeys given that it has been observed in wild individuals.

Some options for the red/erythristic plumage type (reposted with spoilers cause I couldn’t change it on the og post)

Amazing potential here as well, especially since some of the color phases can intersect. Red phase birds can have smokey gray phase flight feathers and feather fans with some crossbars of black on their body while smokey grey phase birds can have red flight feathers and tail fans. Potential here fore upwards of 10 new plumage types.

Nebraska has hybrids too, Merriam's and Rio's. With the plummage you were discussing in the OP message would they be the hybrids? I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota and we just have the Merriam's and I've never seen any of the plummages you mentioned. I definitely agree with the weights 👍

Trying to find photos of hybrid but with the colour variation in genetics and just depending on location alone is enough to make it very hard to tell lmao

Only photo I can find is this beautiful high resolution one :) doesnt even say which hybrid but I'm assuming between the two others pictured
