With the announcement of the Scotland Reserve Tòrr nan Sithean and the recent reveal of Sika Deer as a species on the map, I feel these diminutive cervids deserve some attention. As it currently stands, their model is somewhere outdated and low-poly and could therefore use a remodel. This could include a resize to enlarge their model and make them roughly the same stature as Fallow Deer as well as rectify some accuracy issues with head shape to be as accurate to life as possible.

However, the feature of Sika Deer that most desperately needs attention is their weight. As it currently stands, their weight range is incorrect for New Zealand populations and presents a possibility for differentiation between the two populations.

Currently, Sika Deer in COTW have a weight range of 30kg to 75kg for bucks and 25kg to 42kg for does. This does not line up properly with either Scottish or New Zealand populations and should be changed accordingly for the deer on Te Awaora and Tòrr nan Sithean respectively.

New Zealand Sika Deer, per a series of ecological studies, exhibit an average weight of 70kg to 100kg (most frequently 75 to 85 for mature stags) for males and 45kg to 60kg for does. This is significantly heavier than the current weight range ascribed to them in-game and therefore justifies them having their weight range changed.

Meanwhile, Scottish Sika are smaller and would justifiy being named as well as weighed separately. Studies of Scottish populations demonstrate a trend closer to the current in-game weight range with stags spanning 40kg to 70kg while does weigh 30kg to 45kg. As such, I propose that the Sika on Te Awaora and Tòrr nan Sithean are distinguished from one another by having their weight ranges changed to match what I have laid out above. Moreover, they should be named Scottish Sika and New Zealand Sika to distinguish them. I also think that Scottish Sika should be Class 3 due to their smaller size while NZ Sika should stay Class 4.

Prevalent across most of New Zealand with populations from Stewart Island/Rakiura to south of Auckland, red deer are a reasonably large deer and can produce very impressive trophy heads.

Yes, please. I hope it is for the Japan map. 🙏🇯🇵🗾⛩

The issue with weight and subspecies classification is the existence of hybridization among Sika Deer subspecies in Europe and Oceania. In Asia, however, there are many subspecies that maintain their purity within their respective distributions and weights. The weight difference between the Manchurian Sika Deer and the Japanese Sika Deer is quite large.

Am I the only one who thinks they look too good for them not to have been touched up a bit? 🤔
