This is a master thread for an investigation we're doing on a potential harvest screen rework in the (distant) future. Over the years there have been many posts in here about how to improve our harvest screen. While we've seen some really cool ideas and have some of our own, we want to hear more from you!

What improvements would you like to see to the harvest screen? What do you look for first on it? What do you think is missing? And when you share your harvest, what parts of the screen are most important for bragging to your friends?

Examples are always helpful too. Thank you!

It’s sometimes hard to tell if a fur is rare without a third party wiki. Especially with new species. Maybe have the text for the fur be a different color depending on rarity. ie. Red for very rare and orange for rare

A general redesign of the layout of the UI would be nice, there's alot of empty space that could be out to better use showing details in clearer to read text

Fur/plumage type text should have different colors based on the rarity. Common= white, uncommon= green, rare= purple, etc. Some rares are not as obvious as albino or melanistic

Tighten it up a bit on the sides, when I want to take a picture of an animal I got with my phone I gotta lean way back to get it all in frame, if it was tighter it would be much easier to get all statistics on screen

I think a showing of fur rarity would be a good QOL addition, otherwise, to be honest I may be in the minority saying the Harvest Screen is pretty good as is, it's the rest of the UI that could use a lot more focus.

Indicator for rare animals. Total kills for that species. Fix the hit register in the harvest screen sometimes it shows something completely wrong.

This isn't harvest screen but show more information in the trophy lodge trophies like rarity of animals and if animals were botched but most importantly the weight of the animal when it was shot. I would love to see and know which of my diamonds are max weight

Wish the scoring in general matched more with the rarity of animal. Still kinda awkward killing a great one white tail but still scores less then a bronze bison.

For the “harvest screen” Rarity visual, but not just “it’s rare” but a show of how difficult it is to get something of that level, the ability to save the pose it was in when shot to add in the trophy lodge, on consoles you can hit left on the d-pad and go through the other harvest stats, make tabs for that and show buttons on the bottom on how to access it, lastly the ability to spin and face the harvest in a way to take a screen shot without it going in every axis possible instead of in a circle. For the animals with antlers, truracks gives alot of different versions, have the antler be given a name not just the fur.
For the lodge screen, have the ability to show several more stats, max level, max weight, rarity, distance shot, ability to show the harvest screen from your trophy.

I think it would be cool to be able to pose with the animal for a photo like every single hunter irl does. I would also let the player see their appearance when in single player and could make for some fun group pictures in multiplayer.

  1. The coordinates where an animal was first shot, located near the reserve name. (Alternately the name of the area on the map, but the coordinates are more specific.) This would allow players to check on respawns, etc. at a later date.

  2. In-game time that the animal was shot. Again, this might be important for tracking respawns, etc.

  3. Indication of Multiplayer or Single Player. The reason is if players are in an informal competition, this might be important to know, particularly given all of the modded multiplayer maps

  4. A color-coded icon next to the fur/plumage type as to the rarity (Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare, Mission)

  5. A indication (icon of some sort; I used a diamond here, but something more visually distinct) next to the Trophy Rating if the animal is a Personal Best score for that species. Players might want to know this for deciding whether to save/taxidermy the animal.

  6. Timestamp when the animal was shot next to the player’s name. This is widely used for informal competitions and currently players need to make 2 screenshots to provide this information.

-Being able to toggle the animal in the harvest screen from 'when it's been shot' pose to a default standing pose or otherwise. Just for better viewing

-Some sort of indicator of rarity, so we don't have to rely on a 3rd party.

Oooh yippee I’ll share a handful of ideas off the top of my head:

  • visual indicators for rares as well as exact rarity (common, uncommon, rare , very rare)

  • (toggle on/off) audio indicators for rares and diamonds (like we have with great ones)

  • trophy size indicator for lodge (XS, S, M,L,XL)

  • ability to access all the info from the lodge

  • counter toggle , you could have this visible in the harvest screen and then codex as well

  • add trophy notes and nicknames , editable on the harvest screen after saving / taxi and in the lodge

  • personal best and toggleable friends leaderboard (currently present in codex but could be expanded upon)

  • animals species and lodge filtrating category (also side note pleeeassse with what we saw in the trailer .. i.e canines … cats .Yadadada.. the animal categories need to be more refined and consistent🫶)

Make a section on it showing the numbers of kills in that animal the player has total. Be a great way to keep track of grinds and such like that or just know the info off hand

I would personally like the detail of it showing the species’s scientific name

It’s nothing important just a neat detail

Also a better color difference between diamond and silver trophy medals would be appreciated since at a glance they look very similar

Making the diamond medal more blue would help make them seem different

Definitely want the fur rarity added in some way and I do think there's a couple other cool ideas here but the other big thing I'd love to see that isn't included hasn't been mentioned yet.

It has the "tracking distance" thing which I honestly find almost entirely pointless most of the time and serves little value to me. Instead, I'd love to see the distance traveled after I shot it. Did it drop on the spot? Did it go 50 yds? 200?

I don't know if this was already said or somehow available without me knowing or a thing but I always found it annoying on console that it doesn't show what button to click to view trophy rating types so I end up spamming the buttons so I can see how close to diamond I was, I don't know if its been added yet to where you can view other fur coats through the harvest screen like how you can view silver and gold and diamond ratings but I also think that would be cool, honestly anything just so you don't have to search 20 websites for an answer on if your fur coat is rare or what other fur coats there are

Showing what the max levels for animals are would be nice but especially for new players who aren’t familiar with the game

So for example it could say whitetail range from lvl 1 to 3 in the harvest screen

Could harvest screen offer a function to take a picture with the kill?
Meaning, it would have to be premade poses for the animal and player to avoid ragdolled pose or glitching through the map, it could be with premade background and ground to choose from or based on the map (I have only example in head and that is photographer in RedDeadRedemption2 or online) and we could chose a bunch of poses, like in taxidermy statues, to find the best one to make a screenshot of the kill.

If possible to implement there could be a way to PAY for the photo to be saved into storage like harvested kill and later we could use the photo to add into our trophy lodge as a painting/photo somewhere on the wall in our lodge or directly under a plaque on the wall, to have much more memories of the hunt to share than just the body.

A small animation for the different ranks, similar to the Great one so it's more noticeable if you get a diamond. Like it just has a cool shimmer effect or something for a moment. Cause sometimes I get too excited or distracted and miss if it was a diamond or not. Also if the last harvest option to tax was the last 5 animals instead.

Let us activate a Trophy Shot mode straight from the harvest screen so we can pose our hunter (and dog) with the animal and get proper trophy pics

Make a Bullet trajectory visual animation. I would also strongly advise a small update to swap between 5 themes for example; the ui we have now, rustic realistic hunting ui, etc. Possibly even adding a history option for the taxerdemization, so people can read the story behind your hunt of the harvested animal. The piebald/melanistic/albino/leucistic/etc. have different font colors. Perhaps rework the x-ray UI and remodel the animal organs to look more realistic. I feel the need for the harvest screen to be customizable and interactable. thankyou

A lot of people have been saying different color names for fur types which I agree with but on top of that a sound indicator or some sort of effect would be great to go along with that. Sometimes when I go duck hunting I don’t know if I picked up a rare or not just because I’m spam collecting them and a sound indicator or something would make any potential rares a bit easier to spot

I know this has been said multiple times, but rare indicators when in harvest screen. We now have the ability to filter by rares in the taxidermy manager so having it in the harvest screen isn’t that far fetched

A harvest screen that clearly displays whether you have a trophy (taxidermy) in your lodge with this fur type, denoted by its trophy rating in square brackets for example, would go a long way

e.g.
Melanistic (very rare) [198.6 TR]
or Melanistic (very rare)

Having this line where the current fur variation is displayed would be awesome!
at a glance you can know:

  1. whether you have a trophy with this fur variation
  2. whether you have a new PB for this fur variation (compare trophy ratings) to see if its worth a taxidermy

other QOL improvements could be an all time PB for the species (regardless of fur variation) displayed somewhere
and mentioning the rarity of a fur variation in brackets as in my example above. You could also colour code the trophy rating if it is an improvement on your existing trophies (e.g. make the numbers gold if its record-breaking).
This would bring more excitement into getting silver/gold trophies as they are easily overshadowed by diamond/GOs and would be a new fun thing to strive for regardless of playstyle (GO grind vs relaxed stalking hunt).

A lot of my rares are silvers and it would be really nice to know I have gotten a new gold PB for example 😄

I think the harvest screen is fine, improve it is not gonna add anything for me, and i believe i speak for all my friend that the game problems are others... But a photo mode like in classic will be really good.

A Button for switching On/Off the scenery the animam was in as it got Hit. (For example a roe deer lying in a field or a Bison that just tried to go for a drink next to a Lake.) I'm unsure whether other animals that were around it at the time should be included so one could see how you sniped one out of a herd or whatever.

  1. Should be some sign if the animal is modded. Like if anything got changed in the game data, every harvest should be marked with "modded".

  2. Rarity of the fur should be noted.

  3. Max Score of an animal should be noted so we know how good our harvest really is.

When you look at the true score on antlered animals it zooms in closer on the rack but no longer allows you to rotate the camera for a better look at it.

Some way to indicate if your harvest has beaten your Personal best score and maybe weight too, on some species it would be nice if both male and female had their own (waterfowl, foxes, any species with the ability for both sexes to score higher than bronze) and some sort of indicator for how rare a fur type is would also be appreciated.

An aura behind the trophy medal icon and or the harvested quarry for rare indication makes sense.

ie.: Quarry image, Fur type, or Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc.


Perhaps an indication if the animal/harvest is higher in score than that of any current taxed or stored trophies for the player/hunter.

ie.: Personal best indicator. This could be as simple as an aura to the displayed score itself.


An extra five seconds of still image after interrupting the quarry image rotation wouldn’t hurt.


A zoom option and perhaps a character trophy shot option would be top shelf.

Somebody else already mentioned it, but I would LOVE the ability to add notes to a harvest that showed up in your trophy lodge. You could specify whether something was your first kill, whether there were any unusual circumstances with it, etc.

Forgive me if this has been suggested already. I find it odd that when you shoot either a Saltwater Crocodile or American Alligator it says Fur Type on the screen. Maybe change that to Scale Type since they don’t have fur? We have Plumage Type for the bird species so can this be changed for the reptiles we have in the game?

Just gonna chime in and say some sort of rarity indicator would be great (I'd even go so far as to suggest something that could be seen as you spot the animal, this would be handy especially for birds so you know which one to target first). I'd also like to see what family they belong to (ie. canids, bovines, etc), it would tie into the new lodge mechanics, maybe even an indicator of the plaque size for the animal).

All in all, I'd be extremely happy with a rarity indicator as that would cut down on both me needing to grab my notebook/phone and it would help newcomers who ask if something is rare. 🙂

A bullet trajectory animation would be great, that also visualizes the effect on the tissue. Maybe have a look at how way of the hunter has implemented it (I am not a huge fan of woth as it does not run smoothly on ps5, but this aspect is well done in that game)

Animals from missions could also have a marking in the Harvest screen and in the Trophy lodge, because they have a lower value than regular trophies.

List the time from shot impact to the animal expiring so if I am missing 100% quick kill I know by how much. I read that 100% is 8 seconds or less but hard to know with only ever having a raw % with no number attached.

What im missing is a Killcounter especially if you grind for a great one.
I want to sell ammunition that i dont use and i want to set a amount how much ammo i want to buy.
And...maybe a nice tidy up in the whole equipment store would be nice. For example that i can sort for weapons that are in the class range 4 that i can use for species up to 4 and the fitting ammo and scopes.
Sometimes im missing some sort of chart ingame where i can see what animals are on the map that im on right now. Maybe you could write there what weapon class these animals are so you can look in your storage for the right loadout.

I'm a little late, but it's never too late to try to improve The Hunter. I'll try to give you points that you haven't sent.
1 In the harvest screen, add trophy poses where you can modify the camera, zoom, rotation, and maybe add filters like in The Hunter Classic. Also, modify and edit the animal, the character, and the dog by moving it to the place where the animal died and editing it however you want, as well as letting you place any weapon you have in your inventory in any way, making the weapon collide, either to leave it leaning against the animal or leaning on the horns, or for the character to hold it

3 More blood shapes and pools when shooting an animal, depending on the shot from the side and the point of impact, the bleeding shape and color change, and more blood is added where the animal falls, I hope you take all the ideas mentioned, as there are some very good ones and the game needs a little more love.

This isn't about the harvest screen But pls fix the perk where you can spot 3 animals so that you can switch in-between the highlighted animals and see their score and health instead of seeing the last one you spotted, when I spot animals and there is only 2 or 3 instead of more, I go to spot them and if the one I spotted first is bigger than the 3rd I can't go back to spotting the first one so I can't see the bigger one's health after I shoot it so idk if it's going down.
