#Make animals react to warning calls

Animals currently still feel way to robotic in COTW despite the devs attempts to make them feel more life like, animals not being more aware of their surroundings is a big problem, mainly the fact animals don’t get alerted if they here an alarm call from either their species or another species’s calls

The only time they do get alerted is if it’s that specific individual animal and the others will still be in a calm state

Having it so animals will become attentive or alert depending on the distance from an alarm call or what species is making the alarm call would bring forth more careful planning in hunting and organically make the hunter a better hunter by learning how to ambush correctly

This would also punish players who simply run around the map instead of actually putting effort into their hunts

In reality an animal will become nervous regardless of what species is making the alarm call but for gameplay reasons I think it should vary on how much a call is prioritized

For example larger animals might simple to attentive or outright ignore a smaller animal’s alarm call since it’s likely for a threat they’re well defended from, such as a moose not paying to much attention to a rabbit thump or a turkey call

Which could also work backwards where smaller animals are more likely to become alert if they hear a larger animal’s alarm call since it’s more danger for them

And depending on the range animals might go alert much easier if it’s 150 meters between them or they might completely ignore it if it’s 200 to 300 meters away

Before you grinders get upset this is basically not even something to get angry over since animals can hear alarm calls from a certain distance

Having animals also become alert if they hear a predator calling would also be a neat addition which organically which helps inexperienced players find them more easily

#

It also adds more life into the game which is currently lacking in the two popular big title hunting games

#

And as stated

This rewards players who put more consideration into hunts and punishes those who refuse to learn

And it also adds more unpredictability to hunts which then leads to more engaging hunts and thus longer game longevity

And I can’t help but feel the devs have somewhat forgotten this important strand of information in the description in the game shop

The noise from installing a fixed stand —such as using a drill, a saw, or a hammer— can easily be heard from far away and it makes the animals react.

This is something the game desperately needs. I really wouldn't be upset if the devs took some time to really work on QOL improvements with this being one of them

I've got this video here as an IRL example of what you are suggesting. It's a Greater Kudu cow that's alerted by something and then makes a deep alarm bark, and immediately after you can see how the state of the impala change and they too start barking with their higher pitched barks. This would be an awesome feature in game

We definitely need this, I would really appreciate it if EW took some time to work on animal AI, they really need to iron out the robotic behaviour that has been in the game since launch.

I’d be happier having better functioning and immersive animals than I would getting entirely new species at this point.

It really sounds great, but remember when they extended the spook radius to make it more realistic? There were literally seas of tears and complaints.
The same thing would happen

There would obviously need to have some adjustments for the sake of gameplay but the tent spook radius’s was far overblown by people who refuse to actually think or plan out their hunts

#

And they were angry because they couldn’t place down a tent right ontop of a need zone for an unfair and cheap advantage

Which was especially true for the tigers which were touted as being rare and elusive, a point being turned into a curve when we could grind the tigers and you had people trying to defend such a cheap tactic

#

And the warning calls wouldn’t work identical to the spook radius however
