Animals currently still feel way to robotic in COTW despite the devs attempts to make them feel more life like, animals not being more aware of their surroundings is a big problem, mainly the fact animals don’t get alerted if they here an alarm call from either their species or another species’s calls
The only time they do get alerted is if it’s that specific individual animal and the others will still be in a calm state
Having it so animals will become attentive or alert depending on the distance from an alarm call or what species is making the alarm call would bring forth more careful planning in hunting and organically make the hunter a better hunter by learning how to ambush correctly
This would also punish players who simply run around the map instead of actually putting effort into their hunts
In reality an animal will become nervous regardless of what species is making the alarm call but for gameplay reasons I think it should vary on how much a call is prioritized
For example larger animals might simple to attentive or outright ignore a smaller animal’s alarm call since it’s likely for a threat they’re well defended from, such as a moose not paying to much attention to a rabbit thump or a turkey call
Which could also work backwards where smaller animals are more likely to become alert if they hear a larger animal’s alarm call since it’s more danger for them
And depending on the range animals might go alert much easier if it’s 150 meters between them or they might completely ignore it if it’s 200 to 300 meters away
Before you grinders get upset this is basically not even something to get angry over since animals can hear alarm calls from a certain distance
Having animals also become alert if they hear a predator calling would also be a neat addition which organically which helps inexperienced players find them more easily
