Yes, I know it has been out for quite a while now. But I had some opinions about Sundarpatan
Firstly, it's unrealistic. Terai, Pahad and Himal are different regions of Nepal, not habitats. Putting them into 1 map is like putting the Canada border and Arizona into 1 US map. Instead devs could've done 1 map in each region, or at least 1 in Terai and 1 in Himal.
Secondly, Terai is too dense. Lowland tropical forests doesn't mean it's the Amazon. I've been to Corbett National Park and Bardia National Park (Nepal) which is in the Terai region. I would say it's more montane than the game's Terai. It's just too dense. On the roads it seems ok, but once you go on foot, then you can see how dense it is. Instead, there should've been more grasslands with long grass which the Terai is famous for.
Thirdly, the aggression system. For species which are more aggressive, they are usually loud too. The water buffalo and other aggressive herbivores in the game such as the Cape Buffalo should frequently make noise which is traceable, it could just be written as the species name in the message. Mock charges too would be cool, but that's optional.
If we're talking about realism, then this game portrays tigers wrong. A tiger won't start stalking a human after seeing them. Usually females run off and males have a 50/50 chance to either charge straight forward or run off. But they give warning signs before. I know it probably won't be changed, but this was my feedback on the realism
Finally, the tigers just look Goofy. A future retexture for the tigers would be good.
Bonus: I am not sure if it exists, but there should be different models for different weights of tigers. There should be one model for tigers up to 168 kg, one for up to 240 kg, one for up to 270 kg and the other for weights greater than 270 kg. The size difference should clearly be visible

Note: I didn't mean to call this map bad. I really like sundarpatan, it's beautiful and easily my favourite. But these were just my personal opinion and feedback
Some terai tigers (from corbett) for reference.

Last tiger is a male
To address some of your points
Nepal is a small country that is not likely for to ever get a second reserve so putting multiple biomes into one map does make some sense
I do agree that the Terai is a bit too dense
As for aggression, I quite enjoy the aggression the tigers display. Is it the most realistic thing: No, but there are more unrealistic things in this game (look at Vurhonga for example) but me and my friends do enjoy the thrill of being stalked by tigers
I'm not complaining about the tiger stalking anymore. I really don't care about it after I got my first tiger. But having 1 reserve with all 3 regions of Nepal is like having 1 US map with the Florida Everglades and the Canada border in 1 map
Yeah unfortunately Cotw seems to love its dense foliage can’t think of a map that doesn’t have sections of it even if it’s just a ton of bushes, makes me think if they ever add a Great Plains map they’re just gonna destroy it with sagebrush
Upper pahad is a bit clear tho
They do have some clear sections don’t get me wrong but every map has a dense section it seems
Sad
I think sundarpatan definitely could’ve done with some more bird species as well, such as bar-headed geese and himalayan or Tibetan snowcock
Chital ( Axis deer) or Sambar would’ve been fun too but not at the expense of the species we have, still it feels weird to only have 2 deer species on the map in a region with so many species
So the tigers i only think need bigger eyes, otherwise i love the model, and the chance that male tigers could run at you instead of when seeing you, going aggressive and sneaking around just makes it as you said, goofy (even though that was about the appearance. My main improvement for Sundarpatan though would be the ranges. Tahr and blue sheep i think are too far down, they shouldn’t be in the Pahad area at all, and also they shouldn’t just be found on the eastern region of Himal but both. I also think Yaks should be found more in the Pahad, since the area has some more open land on the western side upper north that could work for them. Then also i would have all Terai animals being in the whole part of the terai, not just some parts; like how Barasingha are basically only on the western part, and Nilgai also but at least they’re on in the whole Pahad. Muntjacs only in the south and waterbuffalo and blackbucks only on the eastern and also Pahad, which worsens gameplay since you have to stick to a certain area instead of free roam, makes you feel you are playing on certain ”rooms” on the map instead of the whole map, having to often check that you’re in the area where the certain animal dwell
We really needed them
We really needed more birds such as kalij pheasants or even peacocks
I wasn't asking for a change in the stalking mechanics, just was talking about the realism of it. And by the way, if you've seen videos of tiger charges, you can see the tiger definetely does not look goofy
Oh yes i meant by the realism of it too, that it can charge directly because otherwise it just goes around till it can like ”activate” the charge seqeunce if you get my meaning. That’s what i meant by goofy so forgive me if i was unclear
Still grumpy we didn’t get even one of these, a new “pheasant” in game would be welcome
Those looks awesome, but if i can give a tip: try to remain hopeful, who knows whatever else kinda map and location we can get? We still haven’t really gotten an exotic one
Nepal and Patagonia aren’t exotic to you? What is?
The only thing I wish they added was Cheer Pheasant, Wild Boar (Remodel), Falcated Duck, Ruddy Shelduck, and Bar-Headed Goose
irl they won't hesitate, either they would run back or run towards you
That vid of the tiger jumping an elephant to get to its rider comes to mind
I wish Nilgai had more rares too
I think the only other one they could’ve done is white not really seeing any examples that could be melanistic
that was from kaziranga, assam. they have the most aggressive tigers.
Yeah just shows off their abilities very well
that was a female fyi
More muntjac common furs would also add to the map variety. Ex: Brown, Red brown, etc
That does not surprise me, is there a myth of one sex being more aggressive or something?
usually the males are more territorial
I'd also love to see Himalayan Goral in the mountains
Or Himalayan Serow or Argali, Guar would’ve been cool too
I'd love to see Guar in the game. They could also be added to an Indochina map in the future
That seems like an extreme comparison, after all a reserve that seems to really put as much as it can into one map is Vurhonga as people have pointed out that it looks like its trying to put Eastern and Southern Africa into one map despite being set in Botswana
Emerald Coast does that too with the mix of the outback, tropical forests, and the coast
Very true
yess
However, I actually like it when the maps seem to be a different mix of biomes from one country/state. It gives it way more immersion and more potential for new species
Terai, Pahad and Himal aren't biomes, they're the 3 regions nepal consists of. Himal to Terai is basically Canada border to New York fyi
As long as its done right, Sundarpatan I think is done alright but it could have been better
*Canada border to southern colorado straight south
I do like the wooly hare don’t get me wrong but I would not have been mad to see something else take its place
I feel like the home ranges for some animals on Sundarpatan are a little off. Ex: Tahr and Blue Sheep should not be in Pahad. Nonetheless, I still love Sundarpatan due to the amount of unique species and good models
I still think the Woolly Hare should have been restricted to Himal alongside the Snow Leopard, Bharal and Tahr. It would have allowed a new smaller species like Indian Hare, Rhesus Macaque or an upland bird like Indian Peafowl to inhabit the Terai
Cheer Pheasant could be found in Terai and Pahad. Himalayan Monal could be found in Himal
Those changes would also open up Pahad to have species like Himalayan Black Bear, Himalayan Goral, some more upland bird like Kalij Pheasant and possibly even allow Muntjac to be further up considering they can be hunted in the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve in real life
I feel like a melanistic Woolly Hare would be an awesome rare
It would certainly stand out in the Himal region when snow does fall
Agreed though I would prefer to have seen satyr tragopan in the Rhododendron Forests , Kalij pheasant in the foot hills, and either blood pheasant, one of the snowcock species, or Himalayan monal in the mountains
It would lol. Sundarpatan would also be better if the Askiy snow effects would be added to the Himal region. Seeing a Yak with snow on it's back would be awesome
Sundarpatan defiantly needs Upland Birds for sure
I still love Sundarpatan. It's probably my fav map in the game right now
Yeah, it’s a good one. Just has a few missed opportunities
Askiy is also great but it just needs more new species (Snowshoe Hare, Ruffed Grouse) instead of the Mallards and Pheasants. Grizzly remodels instead of Black bears would be nice too
Btw Terai to Himal is the same as Canada border to southern part of Colorado. A bit too long, they should've made 1 map in each region
I personally like having all three regions in one map. It allows for more diversity and animal species
Sadly I doubt that will ever happen, I live in Montana and I doubt we will ever see a map there as they consider silver ridge and Layton to have the areas covered despite some major biome opportunities in Montana plus there’s the North America fatigue as well
That's also the reason why I don't really enjoy hunting Medved (The whole map kind of feels the same + there needs to be more animal species).
That's the Mexico border to California
I'd love to see a Montana map. New species could be: American Wigeon, Fox Squirrel, Wolverine, American Badger, Snowshoe Hare, Blue-Winged Teal, and a Grizzly + Coyote rework
The only issue would be that some regions of Nepal would probably never be added (EW wouldn't make 3 Nepal maps). This also means that some species would never be added
Nepal is 147,516 km² (56,956 mi² ) Montana is 380,832 km² ( 147,040 mi² ) as a comparison, if we ever get a Montana map either it’s gonna be a mis mash of the entire state or we will only get one location and that will be the only Montana map we get
yes but no
I also feel like this aspect of combining different regions from a single country onto one reserve is what makes many maps unique and adds more species to the animal lineup
If we do get another Asian map it will more then likely be in any other country currently open to hunting (Mongolia, Japan, several Central Asian Countries) or could open to hunting in the future (Cambodia is a country that has apparently made several attempts at opening up hunting more)
then instead of hundreds of USA maps, we should get 1 map which has everything from the everglades to alaska to arizona
Yeah but each state has its own unique animals and biomes
All 3 regions of Nepal too have their own unique animals
Some US States are bigger then most countries and just as varied in biomes, heck Texas goes from arid deserts to coastal swamps to forest and prairies and California has everything from temperate rainforest and mountains to deserts and chaparral woodland
True, but I feel like there wouldn't be enough species for each biome to solidify it as a map that EW would be willing to add
W
Your comparison with the USA would be more like every county in every state should get a reserve, easiest way to explain is that the United States is kinda like the EU but the states are the “countries” (obviously this is simplifying things but that kinda how it works landmass wise)
I understand your point but I feel like maps would be better with more biomes/regions and more animal species that can be found in each specific biome
Same
Didn't see this mentioned so I figured I would.
I know several people who are put off by being actively stalked by tigers, more than a few of my irl friends have said it and im reasonably sure that one of the mods has mentioned it as well.
It wouldn't need to affect anything but a setting that turns the stalking mechanic on or off would be welcomed i think.
Honestly I love the map and the animals I just wish it didn't feel so overgrown. Like theres far too much vegetation under what seems like old growth trees and it just doesn't look natural
Yeah I’m often frustrated by how much dense vegetation appears on EWs maps ( I get that it depends on biome but I was disappointed in how limited Silver Ridge’s plains were)
I get that they want to it to feel alive, but that's just not how it works irl. You usually get thick brush in relatively small patches where theres a break in the canopy. Its not very dense in a true forest.
Like, Hirsch should be way less dense than it is
Honestly i love that part, mainly because it fits my playstyle, i love forests in general but it fits the way i play and i think some people do play that way as well
I just would prefer it to mirror the real biomes better
Just like Huxley said would be ideal, but idm it being more bushy, also why Hirschfelden is my favorite map
I think my biggest issue with it is that the animals don’t feed in the proper areas, I almost never see deer in open meadows during their feed times for example
Irl you could watch your step and avoid brush and branches, in game we don't really get that option. Until we effective camouflage and maybe stalking boots its not going to feel very realistic to me
But I’m also just used to hunting in country where the struggle is to get close enough to shoot not to find animals lol
Where is that
Montana
Had me thinking it was Africa for a minute, don’t know why
I mean, it wouldn’t exactly be the most fun or interesting map if there was just grass, grass, and even more grass for the entire map. Gotta have some foliage and other thick vegetation like you’ll find in most places across the world.
Yeah but there are some areas of Queensland that are like that, where the biomes seem to kinda just meld into each other.
I’m not saying it should just be that, it’s just that the game has been lacking these types of biomes in general
It isn't, from chitwan it's only around 110 km to some really high himal peaks, that's like having the Rocky's and the prairies of Alberta on one map like on askiy or having baltic- Lappland really quick on rev. I could go on, the game uses different biomes to make it more interesting and in this sense these aren't just regions but also biomes.
Hunted there last year, can confirm. Grassland blending into forest blending into swamps.
"Nah mate, the sambar don't mind the flood. Just uh, keep an eye out. Crocs like to come up into the forest when the water gets up, little c%#ts"
that quote sounds very Australian
Yeah, he had several of those. I can't quote him from the time a water buffalo blocked the road or I'll get banned
Still
Then we should have 1 usa map with different biomes from the arctic to mexico with their own unique animals in biomes
QUICK NOTE: I AM NOT ASKING FOR A CHANGE, THIS WAS JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION AND FEEDBACK
No that is way to different, when you think of Rancho del Arroyo, it has tropics, full on desert and mountains, that’s what he was refering to. It has to be the same region, but not just in one specific place in the region if you get me
What about silver ridge peaks
I think they started with the biome system with Mexico so idk what thought was put into SRP
That was peak tho
This isn’t really a comparable argument. The US is almost 70 times larger than Nepal is, and every biome is relatively close to each other in comparison to the US. Even then, most of the reserves in the US have an issue with biomes not really blending and kinda just knocking into each other (it’s especially atrocious on SRP where there plains and the mountains just immediately shoot up instead of there being any foothills).
I personally love the biome mixing adds more to a certain region you can't anywhere else and some US states can still bring unique biomes/animals and species in newer biomes you dont see in other maps currently in game
Srp wasnt done that well and rancho seemed to be more a stepping stone for biome blending
Just some maps need to do it better
Sundar could just use more species to spice it up and fix the homeranges you find some species in
I agree that Sundar could use some more species (namely Sloth Bears and a bunch of upland birds like Koklass Pheasant and Monal) and that the homeranges could use a bit of tweaking (mostly the Nilgai and Barasingha, which should be nearly exclusive to Terai and lower Pahad).
Sloth bear have been a huge ask from me since sundar came out it was a shame they didnt make the cut, but more upland birds, waterfowl and a new dangerous animal would make sundar a genuinely fun map
Waterfowl I could go without with the exception of Bar-Headed Geese, but definitely agreed with the Upland Birds. There’s no less than 18 different upland birds that could be added, but if EW added even 4 of those, Sundar would be infinitely better in my opinion. Hell, I’d be happy if they added 6 of them even if it meant leaving off Sloth Bears and Bar-Headed Geese.
I would genuinely kill for sloth bear and i feel like the map dosent exactly need them but theyd be a nice and welcome addition
But the map could use more uplands like Indian peafowl and blood pheasant to name a few
Yeah those could really fill the Pahad with life, ik alot of pheasants live in middle Asia but i would preferably have some typ of chickenbird that could shoot grouse, maybe add some new pheasant type also
I honestly wish there was more small game spawns, muntjacs in particular just so we could have more options
For some potential Pahad exclusive big game animals I always circle back to the Himalayan Goral and Asiatic Black Bear
Bears would be cool, we ain’t got enough of them
just let the devs do their job bro its a great map and some people only complain… what you‘re saying would greatly decrease the popularity of Sundarpatan and make the tigers just boring
Theres a difference between complaining and criticism the entire point of these threads is to give feedback and suggestions to the devs so we can help them improve their game.
If we find something we need to criticize we gonna criticize not gonna suck up all the time they still get their praise
