I have played COTW since its beginning on and off, and i must say, after taking another break im back on and really enjoying some of the DLCS i had missed since my last stint.
The dog DLCS in particular have rekindled my enjoyment, absolutely love the Pointer dog!!
The love and attention this game has received over the years really shows, and i hope it continues into the future.
Thank you COTW team for making such a gem of a game!

Love to see some appreciation for this game i’m with you on this, thank you EW for making my favorite game
Thank you for playing ❤️
thank you for sunshine
maybe we could put our favorite things about the game in this channel?
Sound of the trees blowing in the wind. The sound of the snow footsteps on the snow maps. The attention to details, seeds and pollen being knocked off the bushes when you or an animal walks through them. The lighting and sky effects, the clouds, and sunsets and sunrises. The Rifle sounds, especially distant rifles echoing off the grand mountain cliff faces. Exploring the mountains and finding my way to the top to see the views. Hunting the gound dwelling birds, pheasants, turkeys etc, especially on Revontuli.
💯 I'm 60 years old. I've played a lot of FPS games over the years, and I have to say, the immersion aspect of this one works a hundred miles an hour for me. I only discovered COTW about a year and a half ago. Within the first week, an event happened in the game that felt so incredibly realistic. When it was over, I said to myself, "Wow... this is a game I'm going to get hooked on." It's the best game I've played so far. I still have so many things to learn about it, like hunting for great ones, furnishing my lodge, and so on.
That’s awesome what was the event that occurred?
Hello!
Over time, as I learned more about the game, I heard that the headlamp had no effect on the animals. Hmm, I'm not so sure about that. Maybe from far away, but not up close—5 to 7 meters. I had been playing for a week or two and knew nothing about the game. I bought the bloodhound because I couldn't find my prey. I also bought the CB-70 bow DLC, but at the time, I didn't have the level needed for 600-grain arrows, so I was stuck with 420-grain ones.
I was with my dog, heading to a hunting spot in Layton Lake, and it was nighttime. Suddenly, a moose let out a warning call. It was about 40 or 50 meters away. I lay down on the ground, told my dog to lie down, put on some scent camouflage, and waited for it to move away. But instead, it got closer. Suddenly, it was right next to me, maybe 5 to 7 meters away. My dog was freaking out. I thought to myself, "I have no choice; I have to get up with my bow and turn on my headlamp to make it freeze, just like in real life." It worked! I stood up with my headlamp on, and it froze, I had a shiver run down my spine. It looked at me, first with its right eye and then its left, as if it was trying to see what was behind the light. At that moment, I couldn't get to its vital organs because of its head and massive antlers. This was a golden opportunity. It turned its head to the right just enough for me to send a 420-grain arrow into its ribs. It fell to the ground and got into a defensive position, with its front legs splayed out, using its huge antlers to protect itself by swinging its head from side to side.
I didn't move at all; I just stayed in place. After a few seconds, it calmed down and again turned its head to the right. Wham! I sent another arrow into its ribs. It went back into its defensive position, but this time, it was growling and breathing heavily. At that moment, I thought, "I'm done for, it's going to charge me." I almost crapped my pants, but no, it calmed down again. It turned its head to the right, and this time I just kept sending arrows until it finally went down. In total, it took about four or five arrows. Phew! I got up from my chair, and I couldn't believe it. It felt so real. My hands were shaking, and I had tunnel vision the whole time. I was even talking to myself.
From that moment on, I was hooked.
Hahaha what an awesome experience
😲 You say.... 😂
I didn’t even know that they try to protect themselves like that. Is that so IRL too? That would be awesome detail in the animations.
I couldn't believe my eyes either. I think it happened under very specific circumstances, like the distance between us—he was very close, between 5 and 7 meters. He had no idea I was there. When I stood up with my headlamp on, I stayed completely still, except for pulling out my bow and aiming. I was waiting for an opening. But it was the way he was looking, trying to see past the light—that's the scene that looked so incredibly realistic.
Even i haven’t encountered that so you experienced something truly uniqee
That's why I'm hooked on this game. 😂
4351.9 hours of gameplay, I had done all the reserves, and I restarted the game from the beginning—from scratch—about three weeks ago. I've almost finished Hirschfelden; next will be Layton Lake. I'm missing my talents and skills, but I'm getting them back little by little.
No "great ones" so far. I find it too complicated, so I'm content with just the diamonds.
I think you’re playing the game like you’re supposed to you know, getting great ones is just a cool moment, and rares are supposed to be rares for a reason, i usually just stumble upon them, same with diamonds
That's exactly right, just like in real life. I understand that diamonds and especially the magnificent "Great One" shouldn't be easy to get, but they should be a natural part of the game without having to "grind" for them. Let's say, after a certain number of diamond trophies, a Great One randomly appears on one of the reserves, and it would be incredibly difficult to hunt. You'd stumble upon it by pure chance a lot of the time.
I suggested this once i think, like if you get all diamonds on one map, a random great one from a random creature will spawn somewhere on the map, and then you got this cool objective to look for it and really like engage yourself. It would be a test of your skills since great ones have heightened senae
Yes, that would be a good challenge. We would have to rely on our experience and the animal's real behaviors to find it, and even if we do, its senses are so sharp that it wouldn't be easy to approach. It should appear randomly in a reserve, never in the same place or even the same reserve, so that we can't share its location. We would really have to search for it.
Exactly, you get it man, hopefully this can be implemented into the game and make great ones more fun
