Started playing right after Medved came out on Playstation.
2456 hours of play time.
I own all dlcs except Sundarpatan, the dogs, Salzweisen Park and the AK weapon pack.
I've been a pretty active player for the entire five years, this was and has been my go to game for relaxing. I've seen it evolve from a simple game to the complex beast it is now.
During the first year I played there was a great deal of effort in making the game feel balanced and giving as good an experience as possible. None of the guns or bows felt overpowered or underpowered and the animals felt at least fairly close to IRL.
Starting with the first DLC weapon pack, however, there's been a really consistent theme of constantly adding new weapons and ignoring the sense of balance the game started out trying to maintain.
The maps have been absolutely flawless and for the most part every animal in the game looks incredible and beautifully crafted. But that's where it ends. Almost none of the weapons feel like they should and while they look amazing, they just don't perform.
The Laperriere Outrider is the one that personally hurts the most as its modeled on the gun and caliber I've used my entire life to feed my family. Never anything small, this isn't unusual at all, most people would grab a .22LR or a shotgun for smaller animals. So its strange and awkward to have it as a class 2-6 weapon. It just feels wrong.
The .300 Canning Magnum is based on the .300 Winchester Magnum the most popular mule deer rifle in the western US for decades now but its restricted to class 7-9 animals despite being entirely illegal for game like lions and cape buffalo in several countries.
There's also the weird way bows work, rather than bleeding out slowly and needing to be tracked, the animals drop like they've been hit by a railgun. I don't understand the thinking behind this. Its like the maps and animals have taken all priority and the rest of the game is being left behind.
