Started playing right after Medved came out on Playstation.
2456 hours of play time.
I own all dlcs except Sundarpatan, the dogs, Salzweisen Park and the AK weapon pack.

I've been a pretty active player for the entire five years, this was and has been my go to game for relaxing. I've seen it evolve from a simple game to the complex beast it is now.

During the first year I played there was a great deal of effort in making the game feel balanced and giving as good an experience as possible. None of the guns or bows felt overpowered or underpowered and the animals felt at least fairly close to IRL.

Starting with the first DLC weapon pack, however, there's been a really consistent theme of constantly adding new weapons and ignoring the sense of balance the game started out trying to maintain.

The maps have been absolutely flawless and for the most part every animal in the game looks incredible and beautifully crafted. But that's where it ends. Almost none of the weapons feel like they should and while they look amazing, they just don't perform.

The Laperriere Outrider is the one that personally hurts the most as its modeled on the gun and caliber I've used my entire life to feed my family. Never anything small, this isn't unusual at all, most people would grab a .22LR or a shotgun for smaller animals. So its strange and awkward to have it as a class 2-6 weapon. It just feels wrong.

The .300 Canning Magnum is based on the .300 Winchester Magnum the most popular mule deer rifle in the western US for decades now but its restricted to class 7-9 animals despite being entirely illegal for game like lions and cape buffalo in several countries.

There's also the weird way bows work, rather than bleeding out slowly and needing to be tracked, the animals drop like they've been hit by a railgun. I don't understand the thinking behind this. Its like the maps and animals have taken all priority and the rest of the game is being left behind.

It shouldn't feel like the hunting game punishes you for actually hunting

The weapon changes are the most needed things right now, everything else is good except some audio issues that’ve been around a long time, but this is very much needed and i agree as well with that the game is moving away from being an actual hunting game, though we need to remember that it’s still a game and everything won’t be realistic but things like this are pretty essential to be like real life. I can imagine people who hunt real life can’t really enjoy themselves on what is supposed to be a very realistic hunting game, when the weapons are all out of place and the issues in the game just stay instead of being fixed. And also that some stuff get worked on in the background (Unrealistic nerfs to the 7mm and the Inline for example). Please EW, if you claim you listen to the community, this is what is most needed right now.

They're prioritizing visuals over actual mechanics and it makes the game feel so poorly done

think if the game was more irl, it would loose a lot of players most that dont hunt irl, and they who do hunt irl. when i play i dont enjou a 3 hour session finding tracks or or sitting 4 hours still like i do irl, when i play here i like when stuff happens, i do enjoy the non realisim altho it feals like it is so realistic.

Honestly? I don't care enough for bow hunting in this game to change them

I just want the rifles to work

Yup, I've been playing the game since release though not as actively as you I'd say, more of sprees of activity especially after new content and at this point on of my main concerns would be the way firearms perform and how they perform relative to each other and to bows. Other than the I quite dislike how the animals alert, the pacing back and forth when they alert compared to freezing like they do irl is a bit of a nuisance....also the fact that they can drink 150m away from water

Still love the game tho ofc

I hope we get a fall update, hopefully our voice has been heard about the ammo, and then some audio fixes are needed, also dog hunting in water is very buggy right now as well so i hope that’s improved. As for the time being, since i love the game not saying anyone else doesn’t, but i’ll have to make do with what it is and appreciate the nice things it’s still got while hoping for the possible fixes

I think the thing EW has going for it right now are the awesome maps and improvements to the animals. It's nice having a ton of weapons, but the weapons they are giving us don't function how they're supposed to IRL. Improving that aspect of the game across all weapons would make it much more true to life and immersive without taking away from game play. In fact, it would massively improve game play.

The frustrating part about the weapons is that the fix would be really pretty simple .... And something they are already doing with shotguns ...

Just add an additional ammo load to some weapons to increase their class effectiveness ... I don't know why they keep holding on to some weird notion of weapon balance ???

I think its all about wanting to make people try different weapons and not use the same one all the time ??? Well the thing is we already do that for the most part .....

That's why I don't buy any more weapons packs ... I already have plenty of weapons and can kill very effectively anything in the game. And 90% of the time I use the weapons I already have in my load outs ......

Just stop trying to balance weapons and make them work as they do IRL ....

Weapon balance died with the very first weapon pack. A 3-7 bolt action with better penetration and expansion than either the .243 or .270 and a combination gun with slugs and bird shot unlocked from the start and a rifle cartridge that covers 5-9? What was the point of unlocking the .338 or 7mm after that? And the .45-70? Still a worse 4-9 than the 7mm single shot

wraith burrow
#

I'm not saying they are balanced ... I'm saying they are under the delusion that they are balancing them ... I mean why else would they keep making these arbitrary unrealistic weapons ???

That's the only reason I can come up with ??? It just really makes no sense ....

I've never played the other hunting game on the market (just don't have the time ) .... But I understand those devs suffer from the same delusion ....

That’s kinda how this weapon pack is tho, except for the pump action rifle, the other guns aren’t very good, especially the .410 but they are still welcomed since they give a new opportunity of hunting. The believe the .410 is single shot which is interesting, the 22 while unrealistic as some say with tacticool looks, is a lever action which is also uniqe. And that’s what i want the weapon packs to be like, not to be pay to win, or to give new classranges (because that should more vary on the ammo types like real life) but to give new hunting experiences and just offer variety, big variety at that, between different guns. You look at variety for the 4-8 rifles, the only two different are the 6.5 because it has better range and 270 because it’s worse (I like the sound mostly on the 270 but that’s about it)

The only remedy I've found that kinda works for this is to hunt without needs zones or specific times in mind and to just walk with a favorable wind direction and see what you find. It really makes finding decent size animals kinda hard but when you find a diamond it really feels like a diamond

It's just that sometimes, and more so on specific parts of maps that you can end up walking for 10 or 15 irl minutes and see nothing which obv isn't great if you have very limited play time available to you

yeah i have been doing that

it would be nice if i could restart without losing my progress then i'll just play with no dlc except the 22lr until i reach something like level 30 and set rewards every 10 levels like level 10 is a new map

An idea for using money: gemstones or expensive decoration. So you can have regular skins on your guns, why not be able to decorate them with gemstones and such as well? Ik many people would not enjoy this because it isn’t really realistic but i’m thinking since we get money so easily and can’t spend it why not be able to get rid of it easily with small decorations on your guns? It might not be worth grinding for but it’s something you can use and put your money on and i’m not think they’ll be cheap either. Like if you want a completely gold gun or diamond decorated it could cost maybe 500.000 ingame dollars. If you want to add rubys on your guns or other gemstones you can do that too, but it’ll cost

maybe making your own lodge from scratch, thats very expensive
and upgrades that make you do more damage and make less noise for example, it gets more expensive each time

bronze breach
# dim oriole maybe making your own lodge from scratch, thats very expensive and upgrades that...

Building your own lodge, that’s a great idea. And maybe yeah we could be able to upgrade guns with different attachments maybe? Like muzzlebrake, suppressors and so on. Devs said ”this isn’t COD” but they already ruined that with the AR’s so i think they could add these attachments (which will cost i think like what the scopes cost, like 60k each) and they will affect the guns differently

dim oriole
#

yeah i like that

Almost bought the weapon pack then it hit me.

There's already a 4 shot alternative to the .243 in the base game, why bother?

Ah. I only had time to try it 4 times, but the starting mission ons Hirsch is bugged for me. The roe deer is nowhere to be found and the quest marker stays even if you finish it with another animal (ps5)

07 to the pheasant exploded with buckshot in the name.of science you will be missed

(I mean, not really, you were kind of loud and I had a headache)

In general, I dont think animals should ever drop dead instantly unless hit in the heart. Seeing a deer drop dead froma double lung shot is just weird, especially when shot with a bow.

Or maybe drop shots should only happen when you spine them. When heart shot, I wish all animals had a special animation like Moose do where they dont run far

its satisfying though

# waxen spoke Oh nice. All I've noticed is the Mule kicks on certain deer species

Yeah they added that with the Askiy Ridge update but i noticed when playing on that map that shooting mule deer they ran abit and didn’t faceplant into the snow like others it just laid down to the side, you could even hear it laid down on snow, because i at first just didn’t look at the first one i heartshotted and heard a snow-thumping sound from it

100% agree with the OP's point. At the beginning the game balance was hardly noticeable as it should be. Everything came together fluently & mechanics were pretty straight fwd till packs were released followed by G1's. Packs allowed players to skip & quite literally eliminate the games progression & credit mechanics. A player can Buy 4 pks and skip 95% of progression w/o earning it bc you get them for free in-game 😮‍💨. Furthermore, calibers are stuck with 2 same class ammo options while shotguns and bows have 3 ammo options to hunt 3 various game ranges is absurd while the Hudzik is the only rifle with 2 different ammo application options. As a hunting game I expect calibers to replicate their irl counterparts respectively. Furthermore, I also expect every caliber to be applied to various game from the lowest to highest authentic range based on ammo rating & not just by caliber. Ft lb/joule energy & bullet types should be applied in terms of dmg.

If given the choice, I'd abandon the #'d class system & replace it with authentic Game Categories & further apply ammo to pair with authentic game weight rating. An please apply bullet weight gr/g along with various bullet types that are authentically rated for game. It really bothers me that players are forced to use 3 weapons to hunt multiple species ethically when in reality you only need to switch the ammo your using not swap to a new caliber most of the time! This is another reason why bullet types & grain/gram weight should be applied in the UI & gameplay. Player utility is important & the more ways players have to play the better. No one cares if 75% of the games calibers can ethically take C:2-8 game. What we want is more of an authentic caliber interpretation with various ammo options to hunt various authentic game with. Let players have the freedom to choose & use what they want to while still applying the ethical mechanic based on the "appropriate ammo" not just caliber.
