Waterfowl - one of the many gems of theHunter.

Waterfowl hunting. Something many love, and many hate. For me it is very enjoyable and I always come back to hunt them. But there's a few things that could be improved, and funnily enough, most of it comes from Classic! Here's my ideas that could be implemented to improve waterfowl hunting.

New species

A lot of new species could be added, here's a list of a few:

• American Black duck
• Blue-winged teal
• Greater Crested Grebe
• Lesser Scaup
• American Wigeon

*** Reworks + New rares ***

Only 1 species needs a rework in my opinion, but a few could benefit from some new rares.

Mallard: Rework + make Piebald and Brown Hybrid rare, as well as add Black Hybrid and Albino as new rare plumage types.

Pintail: Mallard Hybrid (Like in classic)

Gadwall: Mallard hybrid (Like in classic)

*** Other ***

Comeback, long range and short range callers would be great, as well as new flapping wing decoys and retrievers being able to enter your blind.
A massive backfilling that backfills many waterfowl to all existing maps would be awesome, but for that to happen, we would need this to please all players: https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1382955363489415238 .

Another thing I'd like to see is TruSize. In Classic a trophy duck is visibly bigger than a normal one. The addition of this would be very nice and add some added immersion.

A few of my favourite waterfowl trophies (Brown Hybrid geese are rare now)

Classic also has the same hybrid rares for females, as well as a Creme Hybrid Mallard that is no longer in game. Female Mallards also have Leucistic.

Melanistic Mallards could just be reworked to be Black Hybrid. So basically it should get reworked to look like the Hybrid that I'm suggesting and renamed to Black Hybrid...

I am a huge fan of the waterfowl in this game and waterfowl irl Blue winged teal could be a nice backfill to rancho and American wigeon to Mississippi adding some variation to trophy ducks would be nice to have since you can't really tell a diamond from a regular old silver

The main focus of this post is not to add all the waterfowl stuff from classic to call of the wild, but here's some pictures of the rares for all the waterfowl in Classic.

I was mainly trying to give examples with all the stuff from classic, but there is many more that I'd like to see added that is not in Classic. More variety in the blind customization, more rare variations, more species, more waterfowl focused maps etc.

I should probably clarify which is which. First picture is Gadwall, second is Pintail, third is American Black duck and the final two are Mallard

Personally I'd like way more variety in Mallards over all other species. They have the least interesting rares and have way more potential. Just look at how well they did Pintail and Wood ducks. More than 5 rares each! Mallard only has two per gender... Making Brown Hybrid and Piebald rare would already boost them, but replacing Mela with Black Hybrid and adding Albino and maybe even creme hybrid would make them so cool!

I love Mallards a lot and wish they were much more loved in game and much better. This is about all that I'm going to say about Mallards for a while because I don't think many people would like to hear me sing Mallard's praises and keep talking about how they could be better lol.

Not to selve advertise here but I think that there's some more locations besides the Midwest that could really bring a waterfowl update, namely Argentina, southwest Alaska and maybe even new zealand

Yukon is deeply inland like really deeply like Colorado level compared to the lower 48, you won't find eiders, emperor geese or brants there, scoters, long tails, barrows goldeneye and harlequin ducks tho

I also want to point out that neither Stellaris eider nor the spectacled eider are hunted commonly cause they are protected in the us. Id still love em tho #1311294022408736788

When my dog dropped it at my feat I couldn’t pick it up 😔

I disconnected but stayed in the session, which is called Desynchronisation. If that happens all other players ping will drop to 0 and you’ll be unable to pick up harvest. You also can’t hit anything in this state, because you basically aren’t in the server anymore.

My maps are so dry for waterfowl that I practically have to go on to mp to get trophies lol I mainly play sp, but it gets boring after a while because I basically know everything on my map, but I don’t want to new game just yet.

I’d recommend multi, use the e-caller and move back like 50m and go prone. Pick of the biggest one. That’s how I got this eclipse. I also saw a lvl 3 wood duck but missed my shot.

If you actually a good shooter and have enough spots especially on maps like salz and rev single can work quit well i got countless waterfowl trophys this way

True, but I think the main reason that is a thing is because nobody would shoot the females and get the unique rares (Like dark goldeneye for example) But I agree, I’d like it if they remove it, but I don’t hate the mechanic.

I'm not a big waterfowl fan in COTW ... Mainly because of the current noise ... If they would provide a noise slider for Geese and ducks I would be more in favor ...

However I like to have at least one waterfowl species on every map so I can use them to decrease hunting pressure in other areas ... 🤷‍♂️

I get it, i like hunting waterfowl but they make too much noise and i don’t understand either why sometimes they can’t be shot and they always show up as all males then they load in or whatever they do then most of the males turn into females. This could be a bug but if it isn’t EW needs to explain this thing.

I’m not sure this has been mentioned but they need to make waterfowl all make their own individual sounds. I’m tired of magpies making Canada goose sounds and woodies doing mallard calls.

Oh and definitely add a slider for each species because some calls are more pleasing to the ears than others.

Also, we really need to be able to put migratory bird sounds off, it would be good if we could hear birds that weren’t migrating, because then when you hear calls, you know they aren’t migrating and you can spot and look for rares/diamonds.

In Classic, if you shoot a duck/goose out of the sky, the don’t just fall like in cotw, they actually tumble out of the air and rag doll to the which is super cool.

Depends where you shoot and with what. .22 to the wing at 100-150m isn’t supposed to kill it

From my experience they don’t die. You normally need two shots to the wing.

Waterfowl hunting leads to some awesome trophies! This is now my favorite multi-mount. The piebald I actually found Pintail hunting, but trying to get a diamond beaver since I don't really like the look of the piebald beavers.

I managed to get mine on MP. It definitely increases your odds in finding one, especially checking fresh maps. I've gotten a few sick trophies to add to my duckout mutimount from multi.

My all time best duck trophy did come from SP though

Sure does, although I get more then enough trophies, got at least 1 usually more diamonds of each waterfowl, many cool rare, 2 hybrids so it's going ok
