no progression with venison hunt

i am getting no progression with the venison hunt no matter how many "deer" i one shot.
i have downed several moose elk caribou and even red deer but not one has registered, this is the same issue i had with the first deer hunt when i contributed 30+ animals but none registered and i missed out on the skins. it is not my game because the bear hunt registered my kills and i received the skins for it i am just wondering if it is what the game classifies as "deer".
