In favour of those who have got cardiac arrests and PTSD from playing Sundarpatan, we should get a 'less dangerous animals' setting. In this setting, a few things would happen:

  1. Tigers would stop stalking you and would have a 50/50 chance of either charging straight at you (males above level 5 only) or spooking. Because Tigers don't stalk humans usually. More realistic

  2. Yak, Water Buffalo, Banteng and Cape Buffalo (don't know about the behaviour of bison in the game haven't hunted them much) would not charge at you as frequently as before, Cape Buffalo aggression would also be reduced. In the game right now if these guys see you then they're usually barelling straight towards you, so in this mode they would not be as aggressive and would spook more, maybe a 2/5 chance of charing and 3/5 chance of spooking. Or vice versa as that may be more realistic

  3. American Alligator and Saltwater Crocodiles won't jump out to rip you to shreds as often. They would, sure. But less frequent.

What are your thoughts? Please share!

I wouldn’t say it’s the best idea to remove animal aggression or to make it a chance that it happens. Some animals are way too aggressive, sure, but Cape buffalo for example are known as widow makers since they are so aggressive. I think the entire animal aggression system should instead be reworked to make things more realistic.

@naive musk @heavy grove @shell lily what do you all disagree with this? Please share, as this is a suggestions for those like me who have got PTSD from playing

For the Banteng I don't know if it is known for its aggressiveness, the same goes for the water buffalo, however the Yak and the Cape buffalo are known to be very aggressive and rush a lot at people. As for the tiger, of course the attacks are rare and made by animals often too suffering to hunt so decide to attack humans, but that gives a charm to Sundarpatan, the American alligator is okay, it doesn't attack much. The saltwater crocodile is more aggressive and one of the most aggressive so I understand why it attacks more than the alligator. The bison is okay for me. But the fact that there are aggressive animals gives more action and a little more fear so for me it's okay what scares me even more to the point of cardiac arrest is the new sound of black bears. and the fact that the wolf is very aggressive when in reality it flees humans

Guys i don't understand why yall are downvoting this. I'm not saying that they should remove the aggressive animals. I'm saying there ßhould be a feature to toggle aggressive animals. Even with that they stay aggressive, just a bit less

I enjoy a lot hunting aggressive animals. Adrenalin 📈. It makes me feel more alive.

I don't know because where I come from, wild cows charge at you, so it rarely gets very serious, but it's rare that in the news we hear about people seriously injured because they were attacked by a cow. They can make noise, but often they charge at you.

I'd prefer if there was a mock charge/bluffing state for aggressive animals

This is the 2nd thread started asking for an aggression toggle .... my concern is they will just remove aggression all together which would be a tragedy ....

I would seriously leave the game if EW gave into this ridiculous neurosis ....

When you go into the wilderness to hunt there is a chance that you will encounter dangerous animals .... and honestly the penalty for getting knocked out in this game is a trip to the nearest outpost .

If you're nerves cant even handle the extremely low levels of animal aggression in this game then maybe find another arcade game where you can shoot animals and not have to worry about anything ....

They've nerfed animal aggression several times. The wild boar and warthogs never attack now; lions run away; Cape buffalo might charge, but nowhere near like they used to; I can't even remember the last time a black bear, or any bear really, charged. About the only dangerous animals are cow moose (sometimes), tigers, wolves (sometimes), and water buffalo. It's nowhere near where it used to be, at all. You're more likely to be ran over by a doe than attacked by a bear.

Would be better then making animals less aggressive, I'd go back to Way of the Hunter if they made animals in COTW like Tigers and Cape Buffalo spook and runaway 99% of the time (And I find Way of the Hunter a bit boring)

# still leaf This is the 2nd thread started asking for an aggression toggle .... my concern i...

Same.
like I said in another thread - animal aggression is the main reason I play this game over Way of The Hunter.

If they start nerfing it more - im out.

I dont mind toggle, but at the same time - if the toggle is introduced - EW should expand on animal aggressiveness if its enabled.

Add tiger mechanics to other animals like Mountain Lions and regular lions and up the bear aggressiveness. they should attack then surprised or wounded.

# tropic epoch I never said I want it to be nerfed. I said an aggression toggle. It's like sayi...

i know you never said it, but JJ above said that it was already nerfed couple of times. and the more people complain about it the bigger chance that it will be nerfed again.

So you are being vocal about toggle being important to you, while we are being vocal about the importance of aggression to us.

if they do a proper toggle without hurting us and if they ensure that animal aggression is still worked on and expanded in the future then yes, im happy for this to be implemented.

But we need to be vocal about how important the animal aggression is to us, so we dont end up on receiving end of some shite update

At the end of your OP you ask for our thoughts .... Well we are giving them .... And this is an issue where you can't hide behind a toggle ...

Adding a toggle complicates the coding process going forward. They have to plan and consider the impact of having agression on or off ....

If we don't strongly oppose this there is a good chance that EW will just remove aggression all together and that would kill this game ...

At least for me it would ....

I was thinking about what @still leaf said about aggression toggle complicating the coding in the future. While this is true - different settings could also push the team to expand on animal aggression for those who enjoy it and cant imagine playing without it.

We could have settings like

Animal Aggression:

  • none
  • low
  • normal
  • high

Where None would mean charging is simply off, Low would mean that closer distance would be required to trigger the aggression. Normal would be the way it is now.
And High would mean that new Stalking mechanics would be added to other predators (mountain lion, lion, wolf packs) and bears aggression would be increased.

If new settings like these would mean that Animal Aggression will be further expanded for those who like it - then personally I would be all for it.

I suspect that EW has already reduced the animals' aggressiveness a bit.

I can only assume EW is working with decade old three dev teams ago spaghetti coding. No thanks. They can’t even get Woodduck to make their right sound half the time.

Tiger is the only one dangerous predator now. From 17! maps. Because after the last map release wolves aggression reduced also. Devs gave us a free Sandberg with 454 hollow-point bullet for buffalo and yak problem. This pistol work like a map devastator. This is hunt. Hunt without dangerous animals is a children's sandbox. I understand you but lot of us like dangerous animals and high level of aggression. But don't worry. Devs on you side. Soon all aggressive animals will ask you permission to bite or to butt. Did toggle with low/normal/high is not devs metod. It's easier for them to push our heads together.

I'm against an aggression toggle/slider. But I wouldn't be opposed to being able to turn individual species on and off.

If you don't want tigers to stalk you, I get that. But if you want to hunt tigers then dealing with the danger should be part of that.

I prefer a Predator Repellent (Specify for wolves) with alpha wolf scent, as it helps deter other predators and reduces the chances of being stalked and attacked.

Also, there are other repellent scents, such as the pepper scent, which is effective against bears.”
