With the full announcement trailer the community is buzzing. Many are overjoyed but… a few are a little worried. I’m beginning to question where EW’s priorities even lie?

Because it’s not with the community. The BC post has 778 upvotes and steadily rising while the Canadian Arctic post has 944 and steadily rising.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m totally fine with the setting of Alberta. Just don’t hype the community up with polar bear emojis and expect us to know better.

And let us not forget the lack of grizzly bear? The Canadian Rockies would be a perfect host but here we are… mallards and pheasant. The main grizzly bear rework post has 428 upvotes and it’s seemingly been cast aside despite being a common request YEARS even before I even picked up this game. I only want what’s best for this wonderful game and don’t want to see it go down a path many other games of this genre have.

Oh yes, Revontuli flashback 😄
I have a problem with being exposed to long term excesive noise and while playing Revontuli despite the map being lovely I can't stand playing for too long as there is quacking everywhere all the time from all possible directions. I don't know anymore if they are flying by, are spooked, are near or are landing, it all mixes to me in one big disorienting noise 😄

There’s only nineteen species!
36% of game in Alberta Hunting Reserve are, as of now, birds? 🥱

HOW, did the Grizzly Bear Not make final roster, and please tell me it wasn’t to another bird. - How?! 🤢

I sure hope this doesn’t happen in Africa 2.0 🤮

# stone sequoia With the full announcement trailer the community is buzzing. Many are overjoyed ...

What’s also not forget that just like grizzlies cougars are in need of a massive remodel, rework, and need to be given the tiger/snow leopard treatment… low population and more stealthy and elusive basically fixing all the biggest issues with them…. And this would’ve been the perfect map to fix cougars But No we got pheasant in Mallard instead…. And if we’re up to me, I would’ve picked mountain lion and grizzly bear 1000 Times over Mallard and Pheasant… heck coyote would’ve been a better pick then Pheasant and mallard because they also need a massive remodel and rework all three predators need this

The same issue is happening with weapon packs, they are prioritizing grinding as a playstyle and devoting way more resources to Great Ones than any other part of the game.

And then there’s everything African related, the out right biggest post is Africa Big 5 and there are so many more African map suggestions

The Community desperately wants Africa 2.0 and time and again they refuse to touch Africa with a ten foot pole

I know a lot of us are upset without having some of the species that could have been on this map including me. However I do want to point out one positive in the direction they are going so it's not all negative. The amount of new subspecies on this map was great. They could have just given us the same Bison and Elk. I appreciate the subspecies separation they did with this map. It opens up more possibilities for new subspecies in the future.

I think they didn't add the species we wanted to save them for future maps because people complain about reused species. Me personally I love multiple maps with Grizzly Bear and Wolverine. They could have added them to this map and a future map and i would have bought them. I think some of the decisions are based off of people complaining. I think we have to becareful what we complain about because it is altering the direction they go sometimes and it's not always for the better. That's how I feel anyway

i think the Reason that EW coose alberta was too put as many animals on this map that need a remodel as possible .

however the thing that wonders me about it is that they choose to dont include Grizzlys, Cougars or Coyotes although they al are present in this area and in a need of a rework.

You can't have everything. The community voted in the polls and asked for two large maps back, even after officially hearing about the difficulties the studio was having in meeting those deadlines.
There wasn't much to look forward to at this stage, it was even possible that we would have another minimap but they still delivered a great release.

Although they didn't include those requests, they did include many others.

I still stand by my response, I hate to say this, but do you know what that means? Because we keep asking for the specific species to be remodeled and reworked that more likely than not they will be working on probably a North America 8.0 reserve before for Cougar, Coyote and Grizzly Bear Remodel and Reworks before we ever get say Africa 2.0….. which I don’t want, which means it would have to be either another Rocky Mountains map, either being Montana or Idaho, but or Wyoming… or a British Columbia Map…. Which is the only other positive I can see you probably Roosevelt elk and Blacktail deer being added and getting the much needed remodels and Reworks too but that’s it… if anything, North America 8.0 should be that much needed Arctic circle map if anything, but no, that’s what I think is gonna happen and it’s a shame that I’m sure they can probably backfill all three species and then give them the Remodels and reworks for this map but as much as I hope for that, I’m still very iffy on that… and all because they chose pheasant and Mallard over the other three much more highly requested big game animals that were very much needed for this map

I really like this game, I love it. I've had fun with friends and family, hunting for Diamonds, Rares and Great Ones is fun. But at a certain point E.W. needs to listen to the community. And they do, the Bighorn sheep have been reworked, Mule Deer, Mt Goat, and we got a new snowy map. However, there are some things they do that really irritates me.

Like Liam said, the Grizzlies, other animals, and maps have been shunned by E.W.. Do they listen? Are they planning reworking more species and adding maps we all want. Asia, Africa, South America, etc. And are they going to fix animals that look like a plastic toy from Dollar Tree? We don't know.

Another thing that bugs me is the Great Ones. Some look amazing, the antlers, horns, and furs. But, some look just wrong, or impossible. Some look so weird, for example, the Spruce moose looks orange, and the Spider rack looks like a Red Deer. Which, the Red Deer only has 3 antlers, and ONE fur. I love hunting Red Deer, but they need to fix them. I think they need to do a Poll when making furs and antlers. And I want more antlers than fur types. And I would rather just have antlers for Mule Deer, Sheep, or Elk Great One. Because to me, that is all I want. Big antlers on a normal deer.

I have a reserve idea

arctic trellis
#

I want to preface this by stating Alberta does sound quite enjoyable as a new reserve addition. There is this strange level of disdain the community holds for North America maps, North America is so vast and has such an impressive array of biomes, species, and history (much like many other continents). If we forgo this NA hatred, for lack of a better word, and focus on why Alberta/Askiy Ridge is bordering on a miss, then there is a new conversation to be had.

A well rounded map does not constitute the inclusion of seven (7) birds, four (4) of which being new, and three (3) being return species. With 50% of the new species roster being birds it begs the question of why? How did seven (7) birds make the cut for a nineteen (19) species roster, when there were arguably better prospects?

We are hard on EW because we are acutely aware of their potential, which they seem to forgo, or even forget. Yes, a relative minority of the community are hardcore into game birds & waterfowl, I do not wish to knock them for this passion. But, must you take them far more seriously than those that plead for heinous models to be brought up to speed? Doing this repeatedly, as well as leaning heavily towards certain play styles and overlooking others, does not build the foundations for a community, it pits us against one another.

The community sees your potential and believes in you, but pretending as though members don’t exist and their voices don’t matter, could be your undoing. It is a sincere hope that you would sit down with your team, and take the time out of your busy schedule, to thoroughly review every single model you have so that you can understand why we bring them up so often. It’s not to discount the quality of your work, it’s to show you that you can do so much better if you stop with the earplugs & blinders.

What exactly is so bad about birds? Hunting isn't only big game, and having a second reserve in the Rocky Mountains without Dusky Grouse would have been absurd, and many people have been calling for more common North American waterfowl (especially the 3 we got; snow goose, pintail, and wood duck) for years now, largely starting with the disappointing lack of birds on Mississippi. I'm especially excited about Dusky Grouse since we were robbed of any kind of grouse being on SRP, NEM, Rancho, and Yukon despite the existence of grouse species in the locales those reserves occupy.

Small game often makes a map, and I think the inclusion of 7 birds on Askiy Ridge is perfectly valid.

A well-rounded map, specifically one in North America, should absolutely include a rather sizable collection of bird species since birds are so important to hunting in North America. Of course, I would have personally exchanged the mallard for another grouse species or snowshoe hare, but I nonetheless find the inclusion of birds and other small game important. Having a reserve with no birds just makes it medium/big game only and leaves out a major portion of hunting not just in the US and Canada but throughout much of the planet.

I think a bigger issue Is just not utilizing rifles of other actions and different ammo types. Just being honest as a grinder the packs I truly need is modern rifles and high caliber. But some grinds I love using bolt actions like 375 on my moose or 303 on my non trophy foxes ( 22-250 still my favorite class 2 rifle to use on trophy foxes ) ultimately semi auto doesn’t always equal better grinding weapon. Something that I have noticed is that e.w seems to go back and forth between bolt action and semi auto but forget about other actions ( other then 44 mag ) no weapon pack has a lever action and few have break actions and I think the reason for it is because they set it up that way before grinding became a “big” thing, like weapon pack 3 had a bolt action 30-06 in 2019 and then in early 2020 we got the smoking barrels pack which had the m1 also in 30-06 all of which were out before the first g1 ( 2021 ) ever came out and same for 300 coming out in 2019 with Yukon. So I think they just added too good of rifles early on and just have to keep trying to improve upon what they’ve added trying to top 1 over and over again, sometimes they do, other times they don’t and other times there’s a lot of wtf moments like 300blk being like 3rd best on class 3 animals and can’t work on class 2. Just being honest last weapon pack wasn’t great, sks has too much bullet drop for my liking and the others were rounds we already had and both already semi autos of.

I feel as though there may have been a slight misunderstanding here, I did not state in anyway for there to be no birds nor small game in order for a map to be considered good or well rounded. Bird hunting in NA is a staple, that cannot be argued. The issue I have is what animals didn’t make the cut due to mallards, and pheasants being prioritized? It seems that Vurhonga Savanna is a stepping stone toward creating a new African map. We need to analyze candidate regions in Africa based on the animal species already present in Vurhonga, in order to maximize the use of existing models for remodeling. Species like the Cape Buffalo, Lion, Warthog, and Side-Striped Jackal are commonly found and would serve well as backfilled species in a new map.
From there, they could select additional species for a third African map, successively.

However, it’s possible that EW isn’t interested in developing another African map unless it includes a African Great One species, and there are not actually.

Trust me when I say this ... Game development is a business ... every hour that a dev works on a game has to be associated with a project that will ultimately bring in revenue. Just doing back fills without an associated project to justify cost and pay salaries is a losing situation that no business can justify ....

The revenue model that EW/AV has chosen is DLC and so they have to recoup costs through selling DLC. If they went to a subscription model where there was a more steady stream of revenue they might have a little more freedom but it is what it is .....

Based on existing animals and EW's recent openness to subspecies, the regions I'd put forward are Northern Zimbabwe/Botswana, Southern Zimbabwe/Northern South Africa, or the Waterberg region of South Africa. Now I know there's opposition to South Africa because EW falsely calls vurhonga South Africa and Botswana but a propper bushveld map would play entirely differently to vurhonga.

With reference to Northern South Africa and the Waterberg region, there's maximum animal recycle/remodel potential as Waterberg has all but Lesser Kudu and eurasion widgeon whilst Northern SA has all but Eurasion Widgeon, Lesser Kudu and Springbok.

Personally, I think a plains game themed map in SA Sour Bushveld or Mopane scrub would hold the line for a while in the event that EW isn't willing to or isn't able to implement the big boys like Elephant, Giraffe, Hippo and rhino

In this regard it is worth noting a shift related to giving the base game away free. Having core players and a G1 goal are balanced out by new player enjoyment of smaller attainable items. Quatro and Sundarpatan weapons fall on opposites sides of scale rewarding experienced players. The other large components to consider hindering enjoyment are OP weapons becoming not very fun or having too many too similar. A surge of interest towards in-game weapon that isn't directly included with map. An interest that changes and matures with realities that come to light from extended playing time. This is very healthy, if a bit sophisticated of logic for certain playstyles.

I agree the last 2 releases SP & AR both have many requests answered but when it comes to weapons & gear they fall short & they shouldn't be considering they make up 1/3 of the game. In this case I expected EW to follow their MO on reserve releases further justifying it to pair well with the Game in the reserve just as they did with the Gandhare 4-8 reclassed to 4-9, SP O/U 10ga birdshot reclassed to 1-2 to justify it on a C1-2 only reserve. I see no reason why the new 30-30 also shouldn't pair well here esp with a new Elk. It wouldve made sense if beavers are C:2 to have the new 30-30 2-6/3-7 so its a combo of old & new or.....reclassed to 2-7 to pair well with the Moradi at 3-8. I'm looking fwd to the new reserve even though they really overlooked the oppertunity to add Grizzly, Wolverines, Canadian Lynx, & Snow Hares. I can get passed that if EW releases them in an Arctic Release, but the 30-30.....this should've been more exclusive & pair more with the Game in the reserve over a reskin. Also shame on EW for advertising it with a screenshot with new ammo & showing a reveal reusing base game ammo, again shame on you.

I dont understand the choices but im sure they have a reason. I hope lol. Im just hoping species like , Elk , Coyotes, Grizzly, Mt lion and Black-tail get some love. There is definitely others that need it as well. Those are just my personal wants.

My issues at 1st glance the Mule Deer G1 is defn. done dirty from what I've seen compared to the Whitetail & Moose. EW please quit with the fantasy trope & keep things as close to being authentic as possible. The 30-30 Outrider I seen was given a buff & art rework so I'm hoping it covers C:7 Game. It most likely wont but I can keep asking; I'll likely use it anyway for the Elk & Blk Bear even if its still a 2-6. But with the ugly out of the way EW appears to be rather ambitious with this release which is a huge boon fwd provided it doesn't release a monster bug with the update 🤞😅🤞 The reworks, multiple world & gear fixes, animations are most welcomed. The visuals from early previews are absolutely stunning as a whole & I'm very impressed minus the 2 earlier mentioned points. I hope the snow feature gets added to Medved & I'm anxious to see the new predator behaviors. On that note I'm still saddened this location doesn't have Grizzly, Canadian Lynx, Wolverines, & Snow hares.

The Red Deer G1 is actually based on the EU legend of the Great Stag. Think of it as the king or guardian of the forest so that made sense. Whitetail & Moose G1's also look natural. Black Bear looks like it has stars on it but I havn't seen 1 in a lodge to get a closer look though if its battle scar'd that would make sense. Fallow G1's I've heard the antler models are all wrong but they look natural without some fantasy vibe. Pheasant...must I say more 😮‍💨 Red Fox some look natural others just look cool but still out there. Tahr I have no idea but the skull face...again looks cool but I'm sure a more natural pattern or unique variation exists. Think I've gone over all the G1's except mule deer but on that note. I'm sry EW but...uh...what am I even looking at bc its defn. Not a Mule Deer?!?!?!?!

I waited the mule g1 because of it's size allowed not to limit the artist fantasy. But now it has divided us into lovers of fantasy and abnormalities. Red deer G1 fairly called the Fabled. Others are abnormalities. Although the Fallow deer g1 looks like a heir an Irish elk. (Fabled 50/50). In another side this gave me a good reason to think. Is it worth spending time to abnormalities or not. Because I like only fairy tails.

Which I don’t know why, but I have a feeling something deep down that that’s the next reserve…. And I would like it if it is if the next great one Is a great one Jaguar. As cool as the Thar was on SUNDARPATAN, I will admit I know a lot of people think that the great one there should’ve been the Bengal tiger but whatever so I do think the next predator great one should be a feline and if it is in South America 2.0 then the Jaguar is the perfect choice

Honestly, a really good Texas map with nilgai, pere David deer, water buffalo, alligator and a bolt .338 Short magnum I'd pay 12$ with no issue.

A PROPER ARCTIC MAP including musk ox, walrus, and polar bears at least on the very northern edge of the map with a decent 5-9 rifle like a .358 Winchester lever action, I'd pay 15$ for with no issue.

Africa 2.0, with a .416 bolt action, hippos, leopards, eland, crocodiles, Sable, and impala would be easily worth 15$ to me. Honestly, if they added a .458 single shot like a ruger No.1 with the .416. I'd be okay with 18$

The thing I want most from CotW at this point is just a propper bushveld map. I'm not too worried about exactly what kind of bushveld it is but a sourveld or mopaneveld map would be really great. I personally love hunting antelope so my picks for the map would be very antelope heavy with some of the more iconic animals but not including elephant and lion for instance, so I don't think it'd be a suitable Africa 2.0 unless EW wants to risk a community revolt.

Good bushveld, a nice .375 H&H model and good antelope and I'm a happy chappie

I mean I'd take a map with a bunch of new plains game if they can't make Elephants work. Give me Greater Kudu, Eland, Impala, Sable, throw in Ostriches and/or Zebras too along with some reworks to old species, and I think I'd be fine with that. That's just my opinion though.

#

obviously I still want Elephants, but in my opinion EW doesn't have to wait for them to be possible before they can make another African map

vague jacinth
#

They've shown with beavers they're willing to try new mechanics, so here's my idea. The map is by and large every flavor of antelope they care to add, crocs, maybe hippos if they do a river delta thing so we can have kob and waterbuck
But
The big thing is leopards, with tree climbing mechanics. Nothing too complicated, just climbing certain trees and laying on the branches and maybe a hanging bait interaction in feed zones.

#

If they were willing to do something like this, pair it with a really old school style of rifle like a 9.3x62mm or a .338 and told us up front the map was to test leopards and a second African map geared toward bigger game was still in the works I'd be more than happy to pay for it and wait for the big one

prime radish
#

What they did with beavers makes me hope they will add rutting animations as well ... Bucks and Bulls fighting and Chasing Does .... That would be incredible to watch ..... Would add so much to the game ....

Leopards are famous for killing Impala but generally target any medium sized ungulates and even procupines, cheetah are well known for killing gazelles and smaller antelope species.

I did some research a while ago on the preferred prey of leopards and the results were essentially, In an environment where Impala are dominant they're the main source of food, In an environment where Bushbuck are dominant, they're the primary source and in an environment where neither are present, its whatever they can find like fish, lizards, birds, porcupine, jackal, livestock or pets, anything they can find and that presents an opportunity

Some professional hunters say that leopards never come to baboon bait. Baboons are part of their diet, but they don’t work as well as bait. It’s interesting.
Surely, impalas and warthogs are the best bait for leopards.

I'd like to know why they seem so interested in grinding as a playstyle, I understand that grinders I put more hours into the game than most but it's not the only playstyle and they aren't paying more than the rest of us either. It seems like they're afraid to put out a map without a great one or multiple of them.

I'd like to know why they're doing so much to favor that playstyle

DD33 plays in rl hunt style. Usually 1-5 thousands views 5-10 comments. Scarecrow plays in grind style. Usually from 10 thousands views and tens comments. Tomorrow he shows first G1 mule. There will be peoples there like at football game. Grind is a base play style now and priority for devs. But the paradox is that that an ordinary hunter bring of more moneny then an ordinary grinder. Because grinders want only maps with g1. That's why devs didn't create maps without multiple g1 now.

Ew suffers from overthinking it syndrome

The whole we can’t do it justice thing just doesn’t make any sense, they’ve done so much right like tigers, snow leopards, and salt water crocs. Can’t do it justice is a pretty lame excuse when we’ve seen them do great before

And the reason people would go crazy if they didn’t add elephants and such to a second African map is because they’ve taken so long to actually touch anything African related that now people expect the big 5. If they made a second African map several years ago people would be more forgiving if they didn’t add them

And the community doesn’t appreciate anything take is so not true. Sundarpaton, emerald coast, new scopes, and the ability to put skins on more than just guns was definitely appreciated by the community

Honestly yeah, take a break to update all the rifles, do some reworks that are desperately needed, and update the maps a little I'd be happy. If you need cash, do a mega weapon pack.

They made the lions and Cape buffalo way more docile than they were and should be. I can remember sneaking through Vurhonga and getting charged by a lion or buff out of no where. They decided that catering to a noob who bought all the dlc and doesn’t know what he’s doing is more important than making interesting and exciting stuff. Wolves used to be a big threat on Yukon but now wolves are kinda lame, they still attack under the right circumstance.

Yeah the game became a grindfest yet more realistic in a few ways somehow. The aggression definitly shouldn't cabelas dangerous hunts levels but around a 1 in 10 odds would feel right for lion and buffalo, 1 in 20 for wounded brown and grizzly bears. Wolves are pretty good for the most part honestly, but having the pack go aggressive every now and then is still nice to see. Just not like yukon on release when you could drive a lap around the map and have every wolf chasing you.
