Self-explanatory and yes, I do know that by the time this is posted the reserve just came out but the fact that these species didn’t make the cut is still really shocking to me and feels kinda wrong so here’s hoping they get added very soon because these 4 Species need more love… so please EW please add them to Askiy Ridge in the future?! Just to clarify mountain lion, grizzly, bear, and coyote all need a massive remodel and Mountain Lion/Puma especially needs a massive rework, and needs to be given the Bengal tiger and snow leopard treatment… low population and more stealthy and elusive… maybe a bit more aggressive too but not on the same level as lions, tigers and crocodilians, but a bit more than black bears and gray wolves
#Please add and rework Mountain Lions, Grizzly Bears, Coyotes and Ptarmigan to Askiy Ridge Please

I think the biggest missed opportunity was the Grizzly Bear. It would have been great to have them on a map that also has Black Bears.
hopefully we will eventually get another Canadian map that will have Grizzlies
Just replace Black Bear, Mallard, Pheasant, and Canada Goose.
I understand for me, though the biggest missed opportunity was the mountain lion because they desperately need a remodel and an AI rework… the grizzlies are number two for me because yes, I agree on everything you just said
I mean yeah I can see what you're talking about there too. I figured that we would get Canada Lynx if we weren't going to get Mountain Lions on the new map, but we got neither of them, strangely enough.
AR has only 2 predators 🙁
Honestly, shocked and disappointed
yeah that's really unfortunate. I don't mind having a second map for wolves and black bears, but having no other predators just feels a bit odd.
Keep black bear, remove mallard
In my opinion, we really didn't need another map with the Pheasants. If they wanted another upland game bird for this map, I definitely would have switched them out for another Grouse species like the Ruffed Grouse or Spruce Grouse.
Simultaneously adding mallard to Mississippi.
and I would have left out the Mallards as well
Isn't Salzwiesen Park with the pheasant G1 grind enough, or what?
Gotta specify the mountain lions should have a rework before people bombard this with downvotes cause they dont want them spooking other animals
Please add and rework Mountain Lions, Grizzly Bears, Coyotes and Ptarmigan to Askiy Ridge Please
Just did
We must Spread the Word
yup lets spam the link to this in every chat
Yes, and No we have to spread the word. Yes, but don’t go around spamming like crazy cause that’s not good.
yea im jk
They could backfill those species in a future update
yeah we just need like 300 votes or something
Yeah here’s hoping because we really do need these species
Not even 419 was enough for grizzlies…
i dont remember this grizzly post
Look up for grizzly bear remodel
How much will be enough for a mountain lions?
The community hates mtn lions so I’m not sure EW would want to put the effort in😔
we gotta convince them its worth it, people love tigers and snow leopards, we just gotta specify we want an american equivalent of that
Exactly! We gotta convince them to give cougars the tiger and snow leopard treatment make a more Stealthy and elusive plus low population.. plus they’re due for a remodel and a population reset anyways so now is the perfect opportunity to fix Mtn Lions so people can love and want them
I mean considering how big Mountain Lion home ranges are in real life, their population could be as low as 8-10 on each map and it would be pretty realistic
im pretty sure them having a low population in all the maps means there is more room for a higher population of species like GOs, so its a win for both sides
Yeah, exactly with the very lowest being around 2 or 3 and the very highest being let’s say 22-24 give or take but a perfect middle man would be 8 to 18
personally I think their population on Parque should be about 18, on SRP it could be about 16, about 10 on Layton (if they were backfilled to Layton) and maybe about 8 on Askiy Ridge (since it's near the northernmost limit of their range)
perfect imo, also having other predators in the map balances them out sorta, its even realistic given competition can reduce their population irl
Indeed…. Small side note, though I think there should be like 3 to 4 packs on Layton… Gray wolf packs that is
But yeah, I know these 4 species need a lot more love and need to get added on this map
https://www.albertahunt.com/trophy-cougar-hunt/
218lbs (99kg) cougar from Alberta
I believe it being the largest of the purring cats and the fourth largest cat species in general the biggest one I think recorded was 232lb or (105.2334 Kg) for those not afraid of the metric system
yup, i will post more big toms from alberta here to keep this post on top so more people can upvote it 🙏
that guy looks like he just got out of the bed in the morning 😂
😂
Biggest tom on Record was (127kg) 279lb
that one isnt verified tho
Coyote hunting in Alberta. They use callers in open areas and shoot multiple at a time
"how do hunters confuse wolves and coyotes they don't even look the same"
Lol. Speaking of wolves, hunting them with bait is really popular in Alberta. Would be a cool mechanic to have in game, like a temporary need zone
Ik people won't agree with me but snowshoe hare would've been a great addition too
I agree, but I'd prefer to have them on a more autumnal map so that we can get some more variety of fur types for them. If they were on Askiy Ridge, then they'd probably only have their white winter coat, which is less interesting.
I agree as long as Canadian Lynx was coming with them
could save both for a more northern map
or a British Columbia map, like this one:
#1123832368118120458
I mean they did different coats for mountain hare on revontuli coast they could have just did the same thing here
Yes, I want it in Yukon Valley too where it can have a variety of furs.
do they have different coats depending where they are on the map?
I do not understand why EW added Pheasant and Mallard in Asiky Ridge another time after Salzwiesen Park.
yeah, the fact that they included Mallards and Pheasants on yet another map, but no Grizzly Bears, Coyotes, or Mountain Lions... it just baffles me. Especially the Grizzlies, we've wanted a rework for them for so long.
No but they have different coats based on the season as rares(the mountain hare)
The ptarmigan literally do the same thing they have white as a rare when it's their winter plumage
Could just do the same thing on snowshoe hare
interesting, maybe they could add different common variants depending on where they are in the map, if there is an area without snow
Here’s hoping we see them one day
We must Spread the Word
even if they can't find a way to fit all of these species onto the map, at least adding a small population of Grizzly Bears to the map would be nice.
Yeah! The same goes for mountain lions because let’s be real only way to go
Btw I was thinking on this, but what would everyone thought to be honest if we got a great one Cougar along with the remodel rework and the tiger/Snow leopard treatment? And if so, what would they look like?
And the Grizzlies look way too derby
And the coyotes, they are way…WAY….Over due for a remodel and the rework
But Yeah Cougars, Coyotes and Grizzly Bears Need some More Love
Bump
you wanna vote for these here to https://discordapp.com/channels/393040947006406657/1324853016938942658 ? or anyone else i wanna add these votes for askiy ridge
Both
so all listed in the title ? okay

The map isn’t even out yet, but you already want new things added?! That just feels like greed and ungratefulness…
Or, you know, maybe it's not greed or ungratefulness? Maybe people just see a missed opportunity to include some species that they wanted and they just want to make their voices heard. The entire point of #1067511606373785730 is just that, feedback, so just let people make those suggestions if they want to. It's not hurting anybody.
I personally am happy with the species we got on this new map, but that doesn't mean that the map couldn't be improved by adding a few missing animals to it.
All I’m saying is maybe wait until the map releases, play it first and then decide if those species would be a good edition. Maybe they seem like a good idea on paper, but once executed it ends up being bad. I agree with the addition of Grizzly bears. But Mountain lions would just spook everything like they do on SRP. That’s just my perspective on things, and I really just feel give it a test run before trying to “fix” things
I mean, if they'd actually rework the Mountain Lions to have lower populations and be more like the Snow Leopards in terms of their behavior, then I don't think they'd cause that many issues. But you do have a good point, we also have to see what the wolf populations on the new map are like before we can make a judgement about whether Mountain Lions would work very well on this map. Either way though, Grizzlies and Coyotes would have been great additions and I see no reason not to add them to the map along with a rework for them, unless the map just has no room for any more species at this point (which would be the result of EW's own choices when choosing what other species to include on this map).
I definitely agree with the Coyote and Grizzly bears in this post. Mallards and Pheasants were extremely unnecessary when we’ve been asking for Grizzly bear and Coyote reworks for years. I’m not trying to start any beef, just trying to state my point in this discussion.
I get that, Mountain Lions are definitely a controversial species in the community so I get the apprehension regarding them.
With a rework, I want them to lower the population and make it a (small) chance to stalk like the tiger. They wouldn't scare animals as bad because of the low population and would be exciting to hunt knowing there is a chance it will stalk you
Yeah I think that would make a lot of sense, that's the sort of rework I think they deserve (along with model and fur improvements)
I understand your point, but that’s what the whole point of the cougar rework is for they are way overdue for a massive fixing, and this map felt like the perfect opportunity so I only add them but to rework them and remodel them and fix all the big issues we have the whole community have with them… I guess now we just gotta spread the word
Not to mention with an update like this, this could fix the community perspective on cougars growing from hating them to possibly liking and maybe even loving hunting them plus they won’t interfere with you when you are hunting other animals or grinding for G1s everybody wins
Plus like the coyote and grizzly bear, The cougar model is pretty outdated and could use a remaster

Ok question using the Askiy Ridge Map, where do you think would be the perfect habitats for
1: Cougars/Pumas/Mountain Lions
2: Grizzly Bears
3: Coyotes
4: Willow Ptarmigan
?
I was going to say British Columbia but you limited me🤣
cougar: southwest corner of map in the mountainous forests, along with most of the northwestern mountains except for the northernmost parts (too cold for them).
Grizzly Bears: Northwestern mountains
Coyotes: Prairies and Parklands in the south-central and southeastern parts of the map
Willow Ptarmigan: Northeastern Boreal Forests
Nice thanks!
How about…
1: Bobcat
2: Wild Boar
3: WhiteTailed Jackrabbit
4: Red Fox
?!
Doesn’t hurt to have another map with them on it ngl
Bobcats would probably fit in best in the southern forests of the map. I don't think any of the biomes on this map would really be all that fitting for Wild Boar. White Tailed Jackrabbits would be good in the southeastern prairie. Red Fox would fit well in the Boreal Forest (northeast) and the mountain forests in the northwest of the map
Nice, I do think wild boar could probably fit for the prairie area. what about
1: Rocky Mountain Elk
2: Turkey
3: Raccoon
4: Green Wing Teal?!
I don't think Rocky Mountain Elk are necessary when we have Manitoban Elk all over the map currently. Turkeys... probably could go to the southeast of the map? Not entirely sure because I don't know enough about their range in Alberta. Raccoons could go in the prairies and parklands in the southern parts of the map. Green Winged Teal would probably be found in the southeastern wetlands of this map.
although I think the map has plenty of birds already
Nice ok now for new Species
1: Canadian Lynx
2: Snowshoe Hare
3: Wolverine
4: American Badger
5: Pine Marten
6: Gray Squirrel
7: Swift Fox
8: Prairie Dog
I mean I don't know for all of those. Canada Lynx and Snowshoe Hare live throughout the boreal forest of North America and I think they also live in the Alberta Mountain Forests. Wolverines could live in the northwestern mountains of the map, northeastern boreal forests, and probably some of the southwestern mountains. As for Badger and Swift Fox, I think those would be in the southeastern prairie, if they'd fit on the map at all. Prairie Dogs could maybe fit in the southeast as well, but that would be a bit of a stretch because Alberta is a bit too far north. Pine Martens and Squirrels are hard to say for sure.
but I don't think we'll get any more new species on this map. Even backfilling is a bit unlikely for such a new map.
True but who knows maybe they’ll surprise us

Spoiler for the Askiy Ridge mission about the Cougar: ||Someone in Askiy Ridge mentioned the cougar, though they can't remember the last time they saw one. We're not sure if any still remain in the area or if they've already been extirpated.||
it still baffles me that they didnt add grizzly bears or mountain lions to the one map that really should've had them, would have been a damn good excuse to rework them.
IKR! Especially since they’re both mentioned in the story, my theory is that they were probably going to be added, but I guess due to time constraints And the Beaver mechanics they didn’t have enough time…. Guess we’ll just have to wait for them to be backfilled I guess.
To be fair though that might not mean that they’re exterminated but that could also mean that they’re still there. They’re just very very elusive just like IRL
EW didn’t say anything directly; they only gave us a hint that there could be a chance of finding this very elusive animal in AR.
so according to you, there will be a chance of the same level as finding a G1 to see a puma as in reality, if this is confirmed then it would be wow
What’s the hint?
I believe there might be a hint in the mission dialogue, but that’s just my speculation.
Do you think it would also be an excellent experience to hunt coyotes in this nighttime environment? I'd really love to see remodeled coyotes added to this southeastern area of Askiy Ridge.
Puma in it's current state is a grinder nightmare. No more. Runner around lakes.
Yes it’s very fitting the might be backfilled, i was also thinking about coyotes to be added to this map yesterday
Yep! Which means now there’s only 3 things now. TIME to finally Remaster, rework, and fix Them!
Don’t forget Africa bro
Cheetahs and Leopards are Incredibly needed for Africa 2.0 Yes but this is for Askiy Ridge we Need Cougars, Grizzlies and Coyotes
Leopards could be cool, but i don’t think both are needed
I kind of disagree. I think cheetahs are just as needed. 1: We do need a very fast and speedy animal especially for those hard-core challengers!
2: just like how leopards are iconic for hanging out in trees cheetahs are iconic for hanging out on termite mountains
3: both cats are equally iconic and to me personally it just feels wrong if we just get either lions and leopards, but no cheetahs or if we get lions and cheetahs, but no leopards
4: despite both being spotted cats with yellow fur, both are very different and feel different niches and live in different habitats for Example while both would probably coexist in the grassland area, Leopards will also inhabit more forested areas while cheetahs will inhabit more open Savannah areas
But anyways back to the Post at hand
Ah right yes for another time we can discuss that

Why replace CANADA goose on the CANADA map?!
Why didn’t they add the Canada Lynx to the Canada map?
I like mallards on the new map, pheasants can go, black bear for a grizzly bear and Canada goose, also yes mallards need new rares too
Replace Pheasants with Mountain Lions, Mallards with Canadian Lynx and Snowshoe Hares
Canadian Lynx can still be added to the upcoming Arctic map, Askiy needs hares tho
Yeah not only does Askiy need Mountain Lions, Coyotes and Grizzly bears, but all three Are Way overdue for Remasters and Overhaul Reworks’
Yeah they are, i only think grizzly is needed for Askiy though
Cougars were mentioned though… plus cougars could use a population reset lower population for Cougars on all reserves and I would kill for a gray wolf and mountain lion shared reserve! Especially to see how the two Apex predators interact with each other
Predator interaction would be cool but just because some animals were mentioned don’t mean they would be added (like on Vurhonga). They do need a population reset for sure the only place i could imagine them being is where the mountain goats are
Exactly I feel like cougars and grizzlies Would both be on like the western part of the map though… whereas coyotes would be all over the map. The reason I coyotes is because they need a lot more love and red foxes need a freaking break right now.
I feel like the map would be too crowded with more animals, i’d rather switch smthn out
Replace Black Bear with Grizzly Bear, Whitetailed Deer with Mountain Lion, Ringnecked Pheasant with Coyote, and Mallard with Wild Boar! And yes, before you say anything, there are Actual Wild Boar in Canada and they are a problem
Aren’t those just feral pigs then?
They different from the ones in the US or wdym?
What I mean is is that they are actually real Wild Boars from Eurasia not Feral pigs
Ahhh
Indeed but yeah, in terms of returning species I think, instead of Mallard and pheasant it should have been “Cougar/Puma/Mountain Lion”, Grizzly Bear, Coyote, Ptarmigan, and Wild Boars” and you could kind of cheat with mountain lion and grizzly bear but not only remastering them, but heavily reworking them giving them both the Bengal tiger and snow, leopard treatment not being giving them both lower populations and Cougars would be more stealthy and elusive, and less likely to scream at everything all the time…. We’ll say about between 5-30 Cougars and Grizzlies on Askiy Ridge Each! I would definitely have been fine with Mallard and pheasant being backfill species for down the line but not at launch
Yeah it was kinda disappointing how they were the last two species and people still had hopes for new ones, but this one was more for waterfowl ig
Yep now all we can hope for is backfills
I was disappointed when I heard they were adding mallards but i’m surprisingly really enjoying them there. Whitetail are also an Alberta staple and it wouldn’t make sense to remove them. I’d swap pheasant -> mountain lion, change the northern black bear population to grizzlies, and then just add coyotes across the southern part of the map. Grizzlies and cougars would have a small population (maybe around 16 bears and 10 cats)
Id also like ptarmigan but backfilling them to Yukon could reduce clutter here and beef up the animal count there
Yeah ptarmigan would be fun on the yukon, those and dusky grouse. And i agree because people want a lot of animals but there can’t be too many yk it’ll get as you say cluttered. I like when maps have different size of game in the same location (it wouldn’t be too fun with one region with only the same sized deer for example) because we need the variety. But one animal everywhere without a single moment of peace will just be chaos and destroy the immersion.
Yeah Alberta is pretty well known for having giant white-tailed deer
Now if White-tailed Deer were split into reserve appropiate subspecies then it wouldn't be so much of an issue
Idk that much about deer, what other subspecies would we get beside coues on rancho?
Just like they added Tru-racs to the game, they need to add subspecies to the game. For example south american red stags get up to 340kg compared to european which are 250kg. Also the different furs in this case whitetail having thicker fur
White-tailed Deer have well over 2 dozen subspecies across North & South America and in terms of possible subspecies for the game there are
- Dakota White-tailed Deer for Askiy Ridge (One of the larger subspecies)
- Northern White-tailed Deer for New England Mountains and Revontouli Coast
- The White-tailed Deer in Finland came from the Midwestern US
- Coue's Deer for Rancho
- Northwestern White-tailed Deer for Layton Lakes, alternatively they could also go with the Columbian White-tailed Deer
The Red Deer in Argentina are very likely the same subspecies that inhabits most of Europe, the red deer on Parque and Te Awaroa could be called "Introduced Red Deer". The only distinct subspecies for Red Deer that could exist besides the base Red Deer are the Iberian Red Deer for Cuatro
Yeah it’s European but they’re bigger , so they should be called South american red deer and weigh 100kg more
The New Zealand red deer is apparently bred with Rocky mountain elk which exist also in New Zealand
Or they could do what Way of the Hunter did to differentiate the Red Deer of their New Zealand map from the ones on Transylvania and have the Red Deer labelled as “Red Deer (South America)”
The Red Deer also vary in size based on a multitude of factors, for example the Scottish Red Deer is one of the smaller subspecies while European Red Deer from the Carpathian Mountains are considered some of the largest pure red deer in Europe, and then there are Maral Deer of Western Asia that can exceed 300 kilograms
I'd like to see the models get a revamp before they're added here
Otherwise they'd look REALLY out of place
Yea they should do that also with renaming subspecies
Yeah
Aren't Maral considered to be a Wapati/Elk rather than a true Red Deer subspecies?
There are 3 species of deer that are referred to as Maral: the Caspian Red Deer (Cervus elaphus maral), the Central Asian Red Deer/Hanglu (Cervus hanglu) and the Asiatic Wapiti subspecies (Cervus canadensis, I have seen the Tian Shan (C.c.songaricus) and Altai Wapiti (C.c.sibiricus) be referred to as Maral). When I talk of Maral I am generally referring to the Caspian Red Deer
Gotcha. When I do, I'm referring to the Wapiti species. Lol
