Self-explanatory and yes, I do know that by the time this is posted the reserve just came out but the fact that these species didn’t make the cut is still really shocking to me and feels kinda wrong so here’s hoping they get added very soon because these 4 Species need more love… so please EW please add them to Askiy Ridge in the future?! Just to clarify mountain lion, grizzly, bear, and coyote all need a massive remodel and Mountain Lion/Puma especially needs a massive rework, and needs to be given the Bengal tiger and snow leopard treatment… low population and more stealthy and elusive… maybe a bit more aggressive too but not on the same level as lions, tigers and crocodilians, but a bit more than black bears and gray wolves

I think the biggest missed opportunity was the Grizzly Bear. It would have been great to have them on a map that also has Black Bears.

#

hopefully we will eventually get another Canadian map that will have Grizzlies

Just replace Black Bear, Mallard, Pheasant, and Canada Goose.

In my opinion, we really didn't need another map with the Pheasants. If they wanted another upland game bird for this map, I definitely would have switched them out for another Grouse species like the Ruffed Grouse or Spruce Grouse.

and I would have left out the Mallards as well

Gotta specify the mountain lions should have a rework before people bombard this with downvotes cause they dont want them spooking other animals

we gotta convince them its worth it, people love tigers and snow leopards, we just gotta specify we want an american equivalent of that

pulsar geode
cursive ridge
#

I mean considering how big Mountain Lion home ranges are in real life, their population could be as low as 8-10 on each map and it would be pretty realistic

nimble sable
#

im pretty sure them having a low population in all the maps means there is more room for a higher population of species like GOs, so its a win for both sides

pulsar geode
cursive ridge
nimble sable

perfect imo, also having other predators in the map balances them out sorta, its even realistic given competition can reduce their population irl

But yeah, I know these 4 species need a lot more love and need to get added on this map

Lol. Speaking of wolves, hunting them with bait is really popular in Alberta. Would be a cool mechanic to have in game, like a temporary need zone

I do not understand why EW added Pheasant and Mallard in Asiky Ridge another time after Salzwiesen Park.

cursive ridge

yeah, the fact that they included Mallards and Pheasants on yet another map, but no Grizzly Bears, Coyotes, or Mountain Lions... it just baffles me. Especially the Grizzlies, we've wanted a rework for them for so long.

interesting, maybe they could add different common variants depending on where they are in the map, if there is an area without snow

Here’s hoping we see them one day

even if they can't find a way to fit all of these species onto the map, at least adding a small population of Grizzly Bears to the map would be nice.

Btw I was thinking on this, but what would everyone thought to be honest if we got a great one Cougar along with the remodel rework and the tiger/Snow leopard treatment? And if so, what would they look like?

pulsar geode

And the Grizzlies look way too derby

pulsar geode

And the coyotes, they are way…WAY….Over due for a remodel and the rework

The map isn’t even out yet, but you already want new things added?! That just feels like greed and ungratefulness…

cursive ridge

I personally am happy with the species we got on this new map, but that doesn't mean that the map couldn't be improved by adding a few missing animals to it.

All I’m saying is maybe wait until the map releases, play it first and then decide if those species would be a good edition. Maybe they seem like a good idea on paper, but once executed it ends up being bad. I agree with the addition of Grizzly bears. But Mountain lions would just spook everything like they do on SRP. That’s just my perspective on things, and I really just feel give it a test run before trying to “fix” things

I mean, if they'd actually rework the Mountain Lions to have lower populations and be more like the Snow Leopards in terms of their behavior, then I don't think they'd cause that many issues. But you do have a good point, we also have to see what the wolf populations on the new map are like before we can make a judgement about whether Mountain Lions would work very well on this map. Either way though, Grizzlies and Coyotes would have been great additions and I see no reason not to add them to the map along with a rework for them, unless the map just has no room for any more species at this point (which would be the result of EW's own choices when choosing what other species to include on this map).

Not to mention with an update like this, this could fix the community perspective on cougars growing from hating them to possibly liking and maybe even loving hunting them plus they won’t interfere with you when you are hunting other animals or grinding for G1s everybody wins

Plus like the coyote and grizzly bear, The cougar model is pretty outdated and could use a remaster

# pulsar geode Nice, I do think wild boar could probably fit for the prairie area. what about ...

I don't think Rocky Mountain Elk are necessary when we have Manitoban Elk all over the map currently. Turkeys... probably could go to the southeast of the map? Not entirely sure because I don't know enough about their range in Alberta. Raccoons could go in the prairies and parklands in the southern parts of the map. Green Winged Teal would probably be found in the southeastern wetlands of this map.

#

although I think the map has plenty of birds already

pulsar geode
cursive ridge
# pulsar geode Nice ok now for new Species 1: Canadian Lynx 2: Snowshoe Hare 3: Wolverine 4: ...

I mean I don't know for all of those. Canada Lynx and Snowshoe Hare live throughout the boreal forest of North America and I think they also live in the Alberta Mountain Forests. Wolverines could live in the northwestern mountains of the map, northeastern boreal forests, and probably some of the southwestern mountains. As for Badger and Swift Fox, I think those would be in the southeastern prairie, if they'd fit on the map at all. Prairie Dogs could maybe fit in the southeast as well, but that would be a bit of a stretch because Alberta is a bit too far north. Pine Martens and Squirrels are hard to say for sure.

#

but I don't think we'll get any more new species on this map. Even backfilling is a bit unlikely for such a new map.

Spoiler for the Askiy Ridge mission about the Cougar: ||Someone in Askiy Ridge mentioned the cougar, though they can't remember the last time they saw one. We're not sure if any still remain in the area or if they've already been extirpated.||

it still baffles me that they didnt add grizzly bears or mountain lions to the one map that really should've had them, would have been a damn good excuse to rework them.

so according to you, there will be a chance of the same level as finding a G1 to see a puma as in reality, if this is confirmed then it would be wow

Do you think it would also be an excellent experience to hunt coyotes in this nighttime environment? I'd really love to see remodeled coyotes added to this southeastern area of Askiy Ridge.

Leopards could be cool, but i don’t think both are needed

pulsar geode
# reef drum Leopards could be cool, but i don’t think both are needed

I kind of disagree. I think cheetahs are just as needed. 1: We do need a very fast and speedy animal especially for those hard-core challengers!

2: just like how leopards are iconic for hanging out in trees cheetahs are iconic for hanging out on termite mountains

3: both cats are equally iconic and to me personally it just feels wrong if we just get either lions and leopards, but no cheetahs or if we get lions and cheetahs, but no leopards

4: despite both being spotted cats with yellow fur, both are very different and feel different niches and live in different habitats for Example while both would probably coexist in the grassland area, Leopards will also inhabit more forested areas while cheetahs will inhabit more open Savannah areas

Indeed but yeah, in terms of returning species I think, instead of Mallard and pheasant it should have been “Cougar/Puma/Mountain Lion”, Grizzly Bear, Coyote, Ptarmigan, and Wild Boars” and you could kind of cheat with mountain lion and grizzly bear but not only remastering them, but heavily reworking them giving them both the Bengal tiger and snow, leopard treatment not being giving them both lower populations and Cougars would be more stealthy and elusive, and less likely to scream at everything all the time…. We’ll say about between 5-30 Cougars and Grizzlies on Askiy Ridge Each! I would definitely have been fine with Mallard and pheasant being backfill species for down the line but not at launch

I was disappointed when I heard they were adding mallards but i’m surprisingly really enjoying them there. Whitetail are also an Alberta staple and it wouldn’t make sense to remove them. I’d swap pheasant -> mountain lion, change the northern black bear population to grizzlies, and then just add coyotes across the southern part of the map. Grizzlies and cougars would have a small population (maybe around 16 bears and 10 cats)

#

Id also like ptarmigan but backfilling them to Yukon could reduce clutter here and beef up the animal count there

# broken oar Id also like ptarmigan but backfilling them to Yukon could reduce clutter here a...

Yeah ptarmigan would be fun on the yukon, those and dusky grouse. And i agree because people want a lot of animals but there can’t be too many yk it’ll get as you say cluttered. I like when maps have different size of game in the same location (it wouldn’t be too fun with one region with only the same sized deer for example) because we need the variety. But one animal everywhere without a single moment of peace will just be chaos and destroy the immersion.

White-tailed Deer have well over 2 dozen subspecies across North & South America and in terms of possible subspecies for the game there are

  • Dakota White-tailed Deer for Askiy Ridge (One of the larger subspecies)
  • Northern White-tailed Deer for New England Mountains and Revontouli Coast
    • The White-tailed Deer in Finland came from the Midwestern US
  • Coue's Deer for Rancho
  • Northwestern White-tailed Deer for Layton Lakes, alternatively they could also go with the Columbian White-tailed Deer

Or they could do what Way of the Hunter did to differentiate the Red Deer of their New Zealand map from the ones on Transylvania and have the Red Deer labelled as “Red Deer (South America)”

The Red Deer also vary in size based on a multitude of factors, for example the Scottish Red Deer is one of the smaller subspecies while European Red Deer from the Carpathian Mountains are considered some of the largest pure red deer in Europe, and then there are Maral Deer of Western Asia that can exceed 300 kilograms
