Creating a new profile just for giggles, I chose Medved as my starting reserve. It used to be my favorite after all. That is, before insanely aggressive wolves with monster thick hides took it over.
Oh well.
My hunter spawned in and received their first mission, and the little musk deer went down as it must. THEN, mere seconds later, they was surrounded by a large pack of wolves that came from up the train tracks behind the starting point and proceeded to attack my poor newborn hunter.
Alright.
I don't panic, but have my hunter start firing the Focuso handgun, and practically all of the wolves took a minimum of two decent shots to their heads at point blank. Awesome.
So, what happened next?
Well, naturally none of the wolves seemed affected whatsoever, and my hunter was KO'ed just moments after beginning her frosty adventure in the blindingly white Siberian snowscape.
I'm a patient gal in my forties, so I immediately had her spawn back in to harvest the darn things, as they were beginning to realize they were in fact mortally wounded and actually started to die off.
I kind of looked forward to collecting some hard earned exp and cash this early, right? Wrong.
Incredibly, I managed to find...ONE. Out of 6-7 wolves.
Meticulously following the bloody tracks of the rest of the pack, I unfortunately soon came to the conclusion that they had all simply vanished into thin air. Despawned, gone. No more tracks or bodies. Changing the outline colors made, of course, no difference. My vision was perfectly fine.
Now, I have played this game for many years and my fondness of it is pretty unshakable. But if this had been my first experience with the game, I would have quit right then and there and gotten a refund. Because what happened is plain unacceptable and simply not good enough. Not the attack on a new hunter starting out, not the strange hestitation to die on the wolves' part, and not the despawning glitch at the end. It isn't simply a neat challenge - it 's gamebreaking. What a horrible way to begin a game as a new player.
Sincerely,
A huntress of the broken wild
