There are many threads covering this topic talking about the possibility of missions or a limit of kills. My idea for a more balanced grind is:

  • Chance of a Great One rises continuously with every claimed harvest.

  • This percentage drops with a spawn of a GO.

EFFECT:

  • not more (compared to just setting the spawn chance up) extremely short grinds
  • less very long grinds
  • Chance should increase, so an average grind is between 1000- 1500 kills, very unlikely it is 2000+.

Reason: grinds should not be about randomly spawning a GO, the rarest rarity in the game randomly while running around the map once, but it should ensure that the player gets to know the species and it's zones. He should be an "Expert Hunter" that knows his population.

After doing a successful 1000 Kills, this is assured. After that it is just waiting for the GO and no more skill needed.

I'm very much in favor of establishing alternate ways to get a G1 other than grinding.... I'm not sure that we need an easier or quicker way to get one

Potentially controversial thoughts:

  • Full harvest check has (little) more effect on the rise of spawn chances.

  • if more zones on the map are unlocked by the player and casually hunted (not just 12 zones rotated on), a kill could contribute more. This is a big deal for non-grind players, who just can't reach as many kills per hour as grind players do. so it would be fair to let them get Great ones faster while still playing the species a lot

actually I read that thread before and do not see my ideas in there ( didn't read all messages tho, sorry). The great one mission as not an rng thing but as a 100% way of getting one does not fit as it takes away the fun and excitement of getting one...

There are several different proposals on alternate ways .... Missions are one but I quickly realized that coming up with a good and challenging mission system was going to be very labor intensive for EW to maintain ....

All the alternate ideas are linked in the main thread ....

But the overall basis is to develop alternate ways that take about the same amount of time as it takes a full time grinder to spawn a G1. The idea that random chance must be implemented doesn't seem to fit either because most grinders will admit that they have an expectation of spawning a G1 after about 2500 kills ....

So it's really not about random chance .... (of course there are outlying outcomes sometimes the G1 spawns early and sometimes later ) But the average is somewhere around 2500 to 3000 kills...

So how longs does it take a player dedicating 6-8 hours a day to get that number of kills???

And since time is equated to difficulty in a game we just came up with various ways that should all take that same amount of time ....

Of course EW has better analytics that we do to make that determination .....

I like you idea of using random zones and requiring clean harvests to determine advancement of spawn rate .....
