Most likely an issue with either the cloud service or your antivirus. Nothing can be done about it unless you kept a manual backup, unfortunately

yeah, it sucks, but the only thing you can do going forward is keep a manual backup of your save data

It's really one of the most unfortunate side effects.
Sometimes cloud saves just bork, and when they do - unless you made that backup like Lyra said, there's no real solution.
If its just a reset, you should still have your trophies etc in your lodges - if it's a total file corruption those will likely also be lost.
your best protection is 100% making that manual backup and storing it in a folder on your desktop or having it on a thumb drive - both for easy replacement access if something like this happens in the future
Side thought - no judgement, but there were no mods involved right? It was a clean game?
Mods ALSO have an unfortunate side effect of absolutely scrambling the coding
They're often built on other systems and just don't play well with the age of CotWs Engine/Coding a lot of the time.

If the save is totally wiped and the lodge/trophies did not stay then yes.
Totally new game, unfortunately.
It has happened a couple of times to me and I have been playing almost since the game has launched.
