The north does feel really empty other than the birds and occasional moose.

Lions on Hirschfelden 🤫 (those who know, know it)
im just thinking realistic man
but lions
what about Godzilla
Reindeer is a protected species in Finland, but what about fallow deer or roe deer instead? Or even wild boar
Not protected.
You can quite literally hunt them lol
I also don’t want to ever see another fallow map after what? 4, 5?
6 months since we got Tahr and now they get backfilled. 6 years since we got the lion so its time we finally get lions on Hirsch and Rev
It is a protected specie so you cannot hunt them. https://riista.fi/game/poro/
I think it depends on how well the population is doing, and from what I have read about it, there are similarities between Finnish Forest Reindeer and the Hay-Zama Wood Bison herd in Alberta Canada in that very few tags are given and in some years no hunting is allowed at all
I should add that I have heard that less then 20 tags are ever given out for forest reindeer in Finland in a given year due to their limited population
Your link only covers semi-domesticated reindeer, but luckily I found this link from the same website: https://riista.fi/game/metsapeura/
That is my understanding of reindeer hunting in Finland, very interesting reintroduction story.
Translated from Finnish to English:
“Other: Wild deer once lived in a large part of the country and were an important game animal. As a result of excessive hunting, it disappeared from Finland for over fifty years at the turn of the 20th century. Small numbers are hunted annually, mainly to prevent damage.”
That’s actually a different species. I understand that they are similar, but it’s not what people mean when they say reindeer in Finland. Besides that, the population is very small and only few hunting quotas (around 10-20) are given yearly.

Yet again, that does not change the fact that legal hunting is indeed conducted no matter how scarce.
We have around 300 fallow deer in this country
Roe deer though, that'd be nice
Yes but even so fallow deer population is bigger than “finnish forest reindeer” (metsäpeura), that’s why I mentioned it. But yes roe deer is definitely very common, at least here at Somero
