PS5 Herds

I have been grinding red deer in Hirschfelden and noticed weird thing. I am not sure if it is intended.
When shooting through herds it kinda felt weird to me so I started taking note of herd sizes.
My herds are getting smaller when I shoot bucks, is it intended?
For example I have discovered herd of 10 red deer (8 does and 2 bucks) I shot 2 bucks and now it is only 8 does no bucks anymore, indicator of need zone also says 8.
My theory is that bucks were solos but somehow instead of creating separate 1 animal zone indicator, got added into herd zone count.
I have read that it may be just lagged respawn, so wanted to ask if I should move on from such herd or just give it more time…

when you find a group of animals that has more females than males kill the biggest male, don't kill both as it switches the herd to females only
