#Authentic Ammo Class Expansion 2.0
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Class 1 < 10lb game would include Rabbits/Hares/Prairie Dogs, Grey Fox etc. Unless EW moves them to Class 2 & Makes Class 1 Waterfowl/Upland Birds Only. •[If they do ammo would shift to C:2 not C:1]. All Class 9's are rated for Dangerous Game by authentic ammo use & Game Rating. Not a debate ammo listed for 1-3 is < 50lb game authentically by factory.
I'd rather see Authentic caliber use based on realistic ammo not by current caliber class balance locks that isn't necessary.
Fyi all this applies to is authentically matching ammo to game class for ethical harvests over the specific caliber class lock ranges we have now. Calibers as of now are either too weak, good, or OP with the caliber's current balances. Sry for my 375 H&H guys but 470 NE should not be weaker in comparison based on these Caliber settings 😮💨 Just to name 1 of many issues with calibers. These balances should be reevaluated and overhauled to ammo applications not by caliber alone.
To EW & Dev's Huntable Game should be the difficulty not just caliber choice. Choosing the correct ammo for any hunt is a hunter's responsibility and should apply here for the immersion & player utility. 2nd every game animal difficulty should be based on species (which most of them currently are). But since we have Game level's 1-10 (Trivial-G1) Game animals should further vary in awareness/aggression at the higher levels as a Vetted &/or as an "Aged" animal would to truly represent game hunting difficulty &/or challenges. Please take this into account while moving fwd as I feel it would add more life to the animals and challenge to the hunt itself. Also please remove Weapon & Equipment DLC's being free in the in-game store after being purchased, it ruins the progression experience & overall credit use. I'd rather use the credits we earn in-game to buy them in the same manner as the base game weapons & gear over receiving them for free. Not continuously using my credits on taxidermies, resets, perishables, (tents-blinds-stands) & 1 time weapon purchases. 👍 on reticles & paints though. Now further apply credit use in more customization options. This ties with this thread as well - https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1341850426340937789
Reminder benefits include expanded caliber use & applications by authentic means of using the correct ammo. To remedy the power issue we currently have EW will rebalance this through the ammo; NOT by the caliber itself. It makes no sense a rifle pistol outperforms the rifle using the same ammo??? If anything, weapon range should be affected not overall takedown! Mind you some calibers may still have more stopping power than others as some should but not to the degree it is now where every caliber is either Over-powered or Under-powered for their current classes. 270, 30-30, 6.5mm, 7.62x35(300blk), are some examples where they under perform in their class locked ranges. Also, Soft Points are useless when Polymers overtake overall performance. One ex. I hunted Lynx with the Fors Elite (7.62x35) [3-6] with SP's & only received flesh wounds within 50yds where polymer drops them.
Being how our weapons are about 1/3rd of our gameplay I truly feel this needs an overhaul & needs the most attention aside from bug fixes.

@upbeat flax if a over under rifle got added and it was in 45-70 would you find that cool or would another caliber be better
I have no issue with any weapon model, action, & or caliber being suggested or added to CotW. What I want to see more than reserves, game, & weapons is an Ammo update/Ammo Gear Pack DLC expanding & fixing calibers to authentic ranges. They can still quote n quote "balance" calibers as far as stopping power. Weapons should be balanced by stock, barrel, overall weight. Ammo also determines recoil compared from standard to magnum/hot loads. Kinda tired of ammo not being important esp. when Polymers render Soft Points useless esp. on most game the FIXED Class locks are listed for every caliber. Its a hunting sim not a PvP title.
Ok it was a yes or no question but I will make note
Sry I'm having a day didn't mean to rant.
Nah man I get it but it’s just I think it would be a great choice vs 30R or 308 it’s a versatile round and is not just a new 7mm that’s mainly it
It’s a good looking gun to
Theres alot of 3-8/3-9 calibers I'd love to see. Ppl are so worried its OP or Meta but a real easy fix is additional ammo to seperate the class ranges authentically. Adds more utility, credit use, and authentic caliber applications.
Yeah there is a lot of rounds for these platform rifles but there is also a side by side 45-70 but it’s a favorite and it’s just a round that my thinking is it needs the hudzik zeroing for the lever gun that my opinion
no I agree the lever's dont have the credit they deserve. & I like the 45-70 but again due to the notion of balance alot of calibers & weapons are affected in a bad way.
I was tolerable with things till the winter release. Another waterfowl focused reserve with an upland bird dog release, 10ga on a C:1-2 reserve, & 300blk is 3-6 preventing ethical harvests on Bobcats, Coyotes, Fox, & SP's fail to takedown C:3 lynx. I just found out that 300gr bolts dont put down C:2 game & its rated for C:1-2 in-game. Been trying to complete the Bow Jackel Savanna side mission & they takeoff & stop bleeding. 5x's in a row sub 45yds w/ the crossbow. 400gr knocks them flat but doesn't pass the ethical score. I got alittle heated with it so again my bad from earlier.
Benefits
• More Ammo options & use
• Authentic Caliber Applications & use = player utility
• Calibers are "Fairly" rebalanced with "[ft lb/joule energy"]
• More in-game credit use
• No more Caliber class locks
• Similarly follows "Hunter: Classic" but with authentic ammo use, not just caliber use alone
• DLC packs get redirected to add new actions & calibers "W/O" current ridiculous class locks & takedown balances
• Allows CotW more player gameplay & brings life to the game
• Huntable Game Classes are justified
• Allows the game to stay active against current/future genre titles.
Cons
None!
- Unless EW does nothing!
If they dont update TH: CotW with new features, it will eventually be outperformed by future hunting titles with features & mechanics players/hunters want. If EW is unable to apply them then I really hope EW is seriously considering a 3rd franchise title with a fair # of features to provide more immersion & authentic practices. I genuinely love TH: CotW but certain things prevent me from playing & enjoying it more. • Authentic Caliber use •Various ammo options for various game class ranges - [Proper Ammo Use] •Predators dont act like predators & the lack thereof hunting tools/methods such as proper scent use & decoys.
Please EW seriously take this into account. I'll wait to see what you do but....if "Ultimate Hunting" or another title has updated & authentic mechanics & features I will have no choice but to abandon TH:CotW & support it instead 😪
#1241002536262172795 message - Ultimate Hunting has proven it can be done and calibers can be balanced alongside weapon customization. & yes if EW is unable to apply these features myself & several others will most likely convert given the mass of depth put into. But EW please seriously consider optimizing CotW or develop a 3rd title to keep up with the new standards & full fill many feedback requests. I'm not giving up yet w/o giving you guys a real chance to compete. Besides I love the storyline with your narratives & character arcs an I want to see more.

Maybe they could add all these ammo types as a "Handloaders Ammo Pack" (or something similar) which allows them experiment on different penetration/expansion without risking to mess up the existing game balance. Also I don't think they want to do a complete ammo rework, without earning money for it so a dlc could be a win win situation (in my opinion these new ammo types would have more value then 3 new weapons, so I would prefer to pay the price of a weapon pack for this over another weapon pack)
Couldn't agree more
🎯
Somehow i feel that is the 1000th thread on this topic. I am not yet convinced that this has any beneficial impact on cotw >>> gamingwise (!) <<< except having to load/unload the rifle over and over again. Due to the fact, that we don't have any unload animation (meaning the animation just stuffs more and more ammo into the rifles upon each ammo change) i would consider this even more an immersion breaker.
Due to the fact, that cotw is just a game, i guess this would only add more "argh"-moments into the game, than it would help. See, you come across a fleeing herd of wildebeasts, you pull out your rifle and shoot the biggest one. Ohh no... it was a diamond, but i had the wrong cartridge in the gun. Oooh noooo... don't get me wrong, but many players who consider cotw more a game than an accurate sim would rather be annoyed than pleased by this change to the game.
I get your realism point of view. Cotw is already a niche game. If there are too many "argh"-moments implemented for being more realistic, i fear a declining user number by losing the casual players and thus the decline of the financial returns of EW on this game resulting in a more probable end of service.
See, this game is many years old. It is a bit late for such a change in mechanics... and is still more a game than a sim.
And yes, we have this mechanic already with the muzzle loader, but I somehow don't see the this path to be extended in any shape or form.
Don't get me wrong, i get your point from a realism point of view... but not for 8 (?) years old game, that needs to catch also many a casual player for ensuring enough earnings for EW.
If they intend to keep going this change is necessary unless EW releases a new title. We need ammo options. As for the reload animation I agree with you they dont make sense however as you stated its an 8yr game & I doubt the animations will change either for the Non magazine weapons. However, its another strong point EW needs to reevaluate weapons and ammo as a whole. Hunting Sim 3 & Ultimate Hunting are leading the path for the new standards. If EW intends to put all their eggs in 1 basket with no intension of a 3rd title than I expect these changes to occur. I'm not at all satisfied that pistols & rifles have 2 ammo type options & only have 1 class range application for both. I find it to be bad taste that shotguns & bows are the only weapons that do have various ammo applications while pistols and rifles have 2 ammo options that are the same class. Its even more upsetting the Hudzik is the only rifle with 2 ammo options for different applications. This keynote will be EW's undoing if its not addressed. Though maybe EW needs a wakeup call & buckle down to either address it or work on a new title. At most CotW has 2 yrs b4 being out matched forcing the company to move fwd if they dont make changes.
I'm expecting EW to quit adding content at the 10yr mark before moving on. I'd be shocked if they dont. The only way I see the content to continue being supported & added is if features change starting next year after the reveals of the new gen titles if EW is serious to keep CotW active. Niche or not they cant expect to only release maps & weapons & expect players to stick around if other titles provide more player freedom options as well as enforce authentic features & requested content that many have presented for months even years. EW has to move fwd to new gen in order to progress. & personally, if I were EW I'd keep CotW supported on current gens & optimize a new title for the next generation allowing the team to grow & take the franchise to new & improved heights over trying to beat a dead horse. In truth I think their stalling trying to by time as they are working out the details & I'm fairly certain we'll see a new title in 2-3 yrs.
My point here is CotW was & is a success regardless how many might feel otherwise there's no denying that. However, given its an 8yr game still on an outdated system. I dont think its worth the effort to force more into it. Its a tough call but EW would benefit taking what they learned as well as the ideas from the community feedback & new gen standard features would better be applied on a clean/fresh slate. I dont think optimizing CotW to new gen will be enough given system limitations & lack of features that new gen titles offer.
We will see how things play out this summer. Ultimate Hunting is releasing there Demo while EW is releasing a Snow reserve that might be British Columbia-Arctic to pull players. If its not BC-A, I'm sure player focus will most likely lean towards UH's demo esp. since 2/3rds of players are on PC, & it takes place in Africa with Elephants, Kudu, & Warthogs which 1800+ wanted. If the Demo succeeds & W.I. Delivers EW will need to switch gears moving fwd. Though as respected as they are they wish success to all developers however as with any company. They will need to adapt or present a new product to keep the lights on. I've said it before any immersive title that has more player freedom options with strong gameplay mechanics will always succeed.
I'll keep it simple all I want here is all Rifle & Pistol calibers to be like the Hudzik, Shotguns, & Bows with a minimum of 2 various class range ammo options. Hudzik has (3-7 / 4-8) ammo options. Shotguns & Bows have 3 options from 1-8/(9). It makes no sense for all pistols & rifles to have 2 different options with the same class ranges. Esp. when Soft Points & Hollow Points are outperformed by Polymer Tips & Hard Cast. It makes more sense to apply Soft Points & Hollow Points to lower authentic class ranges & Polymer Tips & Hard Casts to the Higher authentic class ranges. Again allows more use for 1st tier & 2nd tier ammo options & further expands player/caliber use & applications more authentically. As a bonus it would be a great QOL feat. to include Gram/Grain weights to the ammo description text.
Ammo/Class expansion for ALL Pistols & Rifles:
Existing Ex.'s
•Hudzik: (3-7 / 4-8)
•Shotguns: (1 / 2-5 / 4-8)
•Bows: (1-2 / 2-7 / 7-9)
All of these would be perfect
Definite Bump

This is super ideal as it means I don't have to have too many guns on me during a hunt
Exactly
Every caliber should have 2 different class ammo options minimum just like the Hudzik or they should match shotguns & bows with 3 different options to hunt various classes --> "(Authentically)" Ofc I dont expect a 300win to be ethical on rabbits. Its authentic use is for C:4-8 game but with bison 4-9. All I did above is take Tier 1 (soft & hollow points) to cover the low to mid authentic game w/ the authentic bullet weight & did the same for Tier 2 (Polymer & Hardcast) to cover the mid to high authentic game w/ its authentic bullet weight.
