#Hunter Challenge suggestion: Apex Hunts

Challenges themed around a particular reserve or type of hunting. I'm making up two for the base game maps as a suggestion but I'd like input on the difficulty and duration of the challenges.

I don't really expect this to take off but I hope it'll be a resource the devs can use to see what we're after.

Layton Lakes district challenge 100 animals, 25 of each species , whitetail, black bear, moose, and elk

Reward: a custom rifle built to Colton Locke's specifications for hunting in the Lakes district. (Used .35 Whelen for base idea) .350 Locke, Doc's own idea, bolt action built on a Huntsman rifle frame. 4 round magazine individual cartridge reload like the Malmer, classes 4-9 higher penetration but heavier and less accurate at range than the 7mm. (rifle shown with iron sights)

Hirschfelden reserve challenge 100 animals, 25 of each species, wild boar, fallow deer, red stag, and euro bison

Reward: a rifle Robert Sommer helped design, chambered for the reliable old 9.3x62mm. A modern and sleek design with a 4 round magazine that can easily be replaced in driven hunts roughly equal to the .350 Lock in terms of performance and weight. Nicely covering classes 4-9 with high penetration and recoil to match. (rifle shown without iron sights)

I'd love a .416 Rigby Apex Hunts reward for an African mission.

I'm still researching a few ideas, I'm kinda leaning towards a .338 but I'm not decided yet

Vurhonga Savanna challenge. One hundred animals, 50 of each species, cape buffalo and lions

Reward: Grandfather Njabulo dusted off his favorite old rifle and had it refinished for you. The .458 has a 3 round magazine that is loaded with individual cartridges but the knockdown power and penetration of this cartridge is second only to the .470, as such its more than suitable for any and all class 8 or 9 game. It's even good insurance against possible encounters with class 10 behemoths

I think the animals that are taken should be gold medal or better, not too difficult but not too easy either

I don't think those challenges should be time dependent, so that Casual Players have the opportunity to work towards them even if they can only Play once in a while. Make them hard, maybe not hinging on the trophyscore but more on shotplacement etc.

@keen gorge @tender oak

I'd been thinking like a month for each challenge but now I'm wondering if a more difficult challenge would be best

Let's say: Gold or higher rating, lung shot, pass the harvest check, and sub 100m distance.

I figure you can't just blast animals from across a lake, you have to make sure it's a good shot with an ethical caliber and the ranking makes you work a little harder to find the right animals

What do you guys think?

Challenge: Small Game Hunter

Take down 25 class 1 game animals and 25 class 2 game animals (no rank required)

Reward: .22H break action single shot. As basic as it gets but it only weighs one unit and allows even a brand new player to take class 1-2 animals ethically (p.s. I know it's ugly)

# hot umbra Vurhonga Savanna challenge. One hundred animals, 50 of each species, cape buffal...

I like everything about his, except I must recommend .458 Lott or WM
Reason being, .458 Lott is standard issue for game rangers in quite a bit of Southern Africa, so I feel like that could really fit in very nicely with the Grandfather Njabulo as a old warden/ranger of vurhonga story and it can still be a class 8-9 rifle in the current system, leaving .416 to be the most powerful 7-9

# hot umbra What do you think of them so far?

I absolutely love them
Especially the .35 Whelen and 9.3×62 one, I really think it'd make the Hunter Challanges worth playing. It's a unique prize for an achievable challenge (unlike some other games challenges)
If EW were to take your idea as is and just do some minor fine tuning, I think they'd have a winning Challange system

Mississippi Acres Challenge:
100 animals, 25 of each species. Alligator, feral hogs, whitetail deer and black bear

Reward: a gift from Immi Davis at the recommendation of her father. This .348 lever action was modified to mount modern optics and takes advantage of powerful ammunition to handle classes 4-9 with high penetration inside 200 yards and five rounds in the tubular magazine allows you plenty of chances at running hogs or charging bears

#

Silver Ridge Peaks Challenge
100 animals, 50 bison, 25 each of Mule deer and black bear

Reward: a gift from Joe Bradley for helping his son get the park back on its feet. This Replica .45-70 Falling Block rifle only has one round but because of the long barrel and lack of moving parts this rifle is accurate at 300 meters (UPDATE THE COACHMATE PLEASE, IT HAS A LONGER BARREL THAN THE PISTOL AND SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST AS MUCH RANGE)

What do you guys thing of this one ?

Medved-Taiga Challange
100 animals, 25 Moose, 25 Brown bear, 25 Musk Deer, 25 Lynx

Reward: Gregory Grankin has gifted his old rifle from his youth to you for helping him gather the supplies he needs. His old MN91/30S with its unique scope mount and fixed 4X magnification scope. This rifle fires 7.62×54R as seen in game.
(Hopefully the 7.62×54R round would receive a much needed Buff and a better penetrating bullet as well as a class range of 3/4-8 for said better bullet)

I wouldn't mind either the 91/30 or a SVT 40

I'd honestly take the SVT. We could make the argument to that if the Mosin and SvT were in game we need the 1903 to match the M1 Garand

Yukon Valley Challenge

100 animals, Gold or higher, 25 of each species caribou, moose, grizzly bears, and bison

Reward: Jim Murray wanted to thank you for your work in the reserve and giving him a chance for a vacation. He chose the .405 lever action from his hall closet, with a little work from a gunsmith buddy of course. Covering classes 6-9 with a 4 round box magazine this old rifle makes up for its lack of range with extreme knockdown power and straight line penetration with Hard Cast and Jacketed soft point bullets

I wouldn't mind the Gewehr 98 uses the 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge could be cool for Hirschfelden because there are WWI bunkers on the map and this rifle was commonly issued among Imperial German Army Troops

#

Also the Karabiner 98 kurz chambered in 7.92×57mm Mauser as well although from World War II still could be cool option

New England Challenge

Kill 150 gold or higher Black Bears with the use of a caller

Reward: The Warden thanks you for culling those bears as they’ve grown to be quite the problem in the last few years. As a reward they gave you a piece of Northeastern US history, a .30-40 Krag from their personal collection.

#

Oop, I just realized that one was already done

Wait, hear me out. Change this to NEM's challenge. There was a hunter ans gunsmith who hunted the Catskill mountains in New York state by the name of Larry Koller. He wrote "Shots at Whitetails" and his go to rifle was a sporterized Krag.

The Warden could even mention that he collected a few after reading it.
