Howdy Hunters snowyPeek Let's have a discussion about Hunter Challenges typingcat We are super keen to hear your thoughts on this feature - especially if you find them a bit too easy, difficult, or boring and why do you feel this way? Examples of specific challenges are welcome for a deeper understanding!

Love the ability to pick a challenge when I don't know exactly what I want to hunt

I’m on Xbox x and it always says loading

#

Same, on Xbox and I can never get them to work or figure them out

prime spear
#

But also, I rarely accept a challenge because the time, distance, and map specifics don't interest me
-Go to Layton and harvest a Roosevelt Elk between 0100-0400 from within 50m

dusk wyvern
#

That's another thing, the times are weird

I actually havent touched them yet. When does the poll for them end?

I rarely if ever do the photo challenges because the photo system in COTW is really quirky .... You should be able to take photos from longer distances .... Most of the time to complete you need to set up a stand or blind and use a caller to bring them in close enough to take a pic .... This is very time consuming for very little reward....

Overall the rewards don't seem to match the difficulty or the amount of time involved in completely the challenge ....

for example why travel to a specific reserve and then pay to set the time correctly then kill X numbers of a certain animal all for an extra 500 credits ???

This seems to be what I find when I look at challenges .... Just really not worth it

Someone else can explain how to access your screen shots, I think thru the Xbox App, but I don't use it

When the Devs created the Hunter Challenges, I imagine they considered if they wanted them to be achievable by casual hunting, or to be very specific to map, species, time, and distance. They chose the latter, but it would be nice to select a Challenge that matches what you're already planning to do, and get that achievement. But I guess that's why they call it a challenge.

The problem for me when it comes to challenges is the reward isn’t worth the effort. I really don’t have any insensitive to do the challenges when the reward is a pat on the back and a few bucks. The reward needs to be physical like a free gun, skins, outfits, accessories, etc.

Weekly Challenges should be difficult but award a Woodgrain Cosmetic or something desirable

i can only agree with both of you money isint the best reward in late game

Rewards should be improved or innovated (not just money or XP); I think that's the key.

side quests and daily quests are similar and i dont like them
i made a suggestion about a trophy guessr and a geoguessr for cotw as a quest which could make it more fun

I enjoy doing the challenges, but not the ones that require night hunting, so if the frequency of those could be reduced, that would be nice. I do really like the photo challenges, especially since they don’t require you to be extremely close, so that makes them very easy if you can find the animals. The difficulty of the challenges seems to be pretty much perfect, to me anyway. The rewards are fine for me.

Challenges look cool to do but I don't do them because of time constraints, for me challenges are a bonus to my "hunting trip" and I'm not going to change times just for one challenge, or I don't want to focus my gameplay solely on it.

Always wondered why there was no award or achievement for inspecting every Point of Interest on a map, so I stopped bothering. Maybe a future Weekly Challenge with increasing awards per map?

I would like Shed hunting incorporated into some type of challenges. Like maybe find X amount of sheds on a certain map.

It would be cool to see something like collectable hunting cards. When you find a certain special antler shed you unlocked a special hunting card to collect.

There could even be rare Sheds you could collect. Maybe make the G1 Sheds rare finds and even some different color Sheds could be rare finds to unlock those special collectable hunting cards.

#

There could even be collectable hunting cards for killing a certain amount of rares or G1s. Lots of options with collectable hunting cards

The only thing I'm disappointed about the challenges is that we didn't get Christmas and New Year cosmetics because of them and I'm not sure if there is ever any way of getting them again.

After the update WITHOUT WARNING AS YOU ALWAYS do, I was left with the reserve with bugs, in the pheasant areas and to this day you still don't do a good update, because the animals after they die they run into the water and die so you try to fix a bug, and in the end the same thing continues, and apart from other bugs that are still in the game to this day.

For me, the challenges are a bit too generic and the rewards are really sparse (if I want a challenge I just do map side missions, it gives me money, it's challenging and I'm working torwards a proper goal - completing them all and getting a Steam achievement) - so far, there's no reason for me to try them out. However, it has potential to become something great in the future

So far I haven't done too many of the challenges when they take me too far away from what I had originally planned to be doing. It's always best when you get the feeling of killing two birds with one stone.

Some of the more fun challenges are the ones that set restrictions on equipment, like archery tasks are good (15 capercaillies by bow was HARD-in a good way).

Forcing us to dig for the equipment we rarely use (and therefore reevaluate them), like some lever action or break action tasks I seem to remember.. But surely there are many other potential restrictions like that? Utilizing more of the armory palette like muzzle loaders, the airgun, Alexander longbow, certain ammo, soft point, slugs and buckshot..
Those seem to me more fun parameters than clock windows which aren't as creative.
(apologies if these have happened and I missed it, I don't always remember to check out the page)

Leading to this suggestion: Could there be a discreet small window prompt at launch just offering a headline of a new challenge cycle? Would reming me to check it out more often..

It would be good if they could be viewed/selected from the main menu, so that you can choose right away which map to go to and what to do.

On ps5/ps4 I can tell you the camera is just a pain. It's actually useless because if you try to use it for screenshots you end up with lines on the picture and because it is annoyingly easy to go into camera mode trying to reload without looking at the controller you can get ko'd easily, the camera challenges are just never worth the effort.

I have 4 accounts, some online and some offline, on my ps5 that are all level 60. So exp rewards are pointless. Money is almost as useless since I can just go after crocs.

For a reward I'd actually work toward I'd want something like a physical gun for harder challenges or a wood/metal coloration.

Give me something like 100 lungshots on whitetail deer for a Huntsman variation in .30-06

75 bears killed with the .300 Canning Magnum for a variation of it in .338

Port some cool rifles out of classic and do monthly challenges like 120 red stag for the bolt action.30-06 with Jaxy's logo or something

brave spear

Challenge idea: Apex Hunts (base game, Layton)

Take down 25 of each species for whitetail deer, moose, black bear, and Roosevelt elk

Reward: .350 Locke bolt action rifle (based on .35 Whelen) featuring a 4 round magazine (Malmer reload animations) a custom rifle based on Doc's years of experience with the big game of Layton Lakes that covers class 4-9 with better penetration than the 7mm at the cost of slightly higher weight and recoil

#

Apex Hunts Hirschfelden

25 each of wild boar, fallow deer, red stag, and Euro bison

Reward: a 9.3x62mm bolt action rifle built to Robert Sommer's specifications. A 4 round magazine for fast reloads on driven hunts and taking down large game with precision firepower (performance mirrors .350 Locke for balance)

Challenges, in general, are boring and pointless imo. I am all about the live hunt and that's it.

why are most of the challenges mostly on layton or hirsch? game says you can still do dlc challenges even if you don't own a certain map

Starting to get into the challenges .... as a casual player I like that you can jump into game and have some guidance / direction on what you want to hunt ....

Sometimes however the challenges are a little ridiculous ... Like shooting quail at greater than 109m and passing harvest check .... (They cant be shot grounded )

I have found that on some challenges maps get left out of the result. Today, I took the challenge to photograph Feral pigs. But, despite having the correct time —10-14— the pics of pigs in Emerald Coast would not register on the challenge. I went to Te Awaroa and they registered just fine.

This is not the first time this has happened, but usually it's 'base game' animal that I'm hunting in a later map, and the first one - whitetails - has not been an issue since. So, as a note to those programming Challenges—make sure you set it to take the correct animal from any map.

# nova sail Starting to get into the challenges .... as a casual player I like that you can ...

Agreed. Ditto for getting a heart shot with a shotgun. That's not skill, that's luck. Getting under 50 meters is doable, but 100 meters is pressing your luck on a hilly or forested Map, especially at dd times. At 100+ meter shot over a lake at drink time is doable, but at a resting time ... not so much.
The same goes for specifically heart shots—the smaller the animal the harder it becomes. Oe challenge wanted 3 .... heart shot... on a quail ... with a shotgun. That's not fun, that's frustration. Lung dhots on Brds are hard enough, especially birds you can't rifle shoot.

The Westley Richards 425
Kill class 8 to 9 animals to obtain

Now that would be an awesome reward

I also think that more cosmetic options would be nice rewards for future community challenges. Maybe we could finally get a proper stainless steel metal material as a reward? A man can dream I suppose.

Please, EW, I'm begging you.

Give us a MATTE BLACK paint option, make the challenge hunt black bears or something just give us a MATTE BLACK that doesn't have a weird blue sheen in the sun

Daily Challenge: Harvest 2 Bovids
-Bovids are antelopes, cattle, goats, sheep, and other even-toed ungulates, it even includes Wildebeest - everything BUT Pronghorns.
-Educate us EW, but don't give us homework.

The .30-06 Stutzen from classic, please, any challenge works as long as we get this thing. Do I care that it's basically a new skin for the Eckers and would probably be the same in every way? Not really, no. I just want some variety aside from semi-auto rifles.

There are so many good weapon pack Ideas in #1067511606373785730 ....

They could take some of those ideas and create unique weapons that could be used as rewards in community challenges ....

Its very difficult to get motivated to participate for just a few cosmetics ....

I think we've had our fill of cosmetics. New character outfits would be cool, but random weapon cosmetics don't fill most of us with enthusiasm. Playing a lot more Way of the Hunter than Call of the Wild these days.
