#Interactions between Animals

I think adding more diversity to the game with how the animals act would really improve the gameplay. These are just a few main examples and I’ll add onto this later with certain species.

Predators to Prey

Prey animals will get nervous when predators are nearby and may shuffle away but not flee completely unless necessary.
-# Example: Grizzly Bears drink at the same zone as Caribou, to where the ungulates have 0 prey instinct and are fine with a bear posing as a herd member/drinking alongside them. This should be changed to where the caribou get nervous around the bears and move away from them.

Mating

Okay weirdos, no I’m not asking for a detailed mating animation, but to have similar behaviour between males and females would be cool.
-# Example: Bucks tend to chase and sniff does during mating season.
-# Example 2: To be able to see things such as rubbing heads together affectionately and licking faces/grooming fur would be sweet.

The Rut

Branching off from mating, to have realistic rutting between males with antlers and horns would be awesome.
-# Example: All males tend to square each other up (circling, huffing, roaring, etc) before locking antlers or butting heads.
-# Example 2: Deer and moose tend to lock antlers and shove each other around. The winning male is usually the larger one, so to see a level 4 moose win against a level 2 would add to the realism. Same goes for deer.
-# Example 3: Goats and sheep such as bighorns tend to rear up and smash their horns together.
-# Example 4: Bison tend to but heads and lock horns.

Realistic Herds, Packs and Flocks

Lots of animal groups tend to have one dominant male and/or one leading female.
-# Example: Elk herds have a breeding male in the fall alongside younger males. Though, the herd is led by the eldest female.

Grey Wolves

Grey wolves travel in packs with a dominant breeding pair and their offspring.
The leading male and female (called the alphas or breeding pair or mates) are the most dominant and display this by having tall posture such as high tails and ears (the wolf circled in red is most likely one of the dominant wolves).
Subordinates (the offspring) will always display submission with their ears back and tails low.

Wolves play with each other by playbowing and rolling on their backs, they also chase each other with a bouncy run.
They like to groom each other and spend most of the day sleeping or laying around.

If we’re relating prey to the maps the wolves are one, they’ll tend to hunt caribou, reindeer, musk deer and wild boar. They try and avoid hunting moose as they are the most dangerous; one or two blows to a wolf skull will easily kill it.

This would greatly improve the experience

YES to all of this. I want to see rutting behavior and fights for dominance between males and even the females. It's a crime we don't have battling bull moose and especially that we don't have a two moose multi mount.

Playing

No matter the age, all animals still have an instinct to play with their group members.

  • All species of deer bound after each other and may even kick and butt heads in a playful manner (both males and females, though male to male is more dominant).
  • Wolves and other canids playbow and tackle each other. One may wrap their teeth around the others head, face or muzzle either as an aggressive or affectionate display depending on context.
  • Bears also tackle and chase each other and enjoy playing in water.

I'd go so far as to say I would actually like to see predators bring down game, not just chase them. That said, if this was ever implemented, I would hope they would make it so diamonds and GO animals would be safe from this feature.

All species of fox and coyotes should actually chase rabbits and rabbits should have that zig-zag pattern in their run.
It would also awesome to see foxes pouncing!

Imagine hiking up a canyon on SRP and hearing the crack of bighorn sheep butting heads.

That would be amazing!! This is what I mean!

This would give more utility to the photographs, with missions or challenges to photograph animals performing specific interactions, or something similar.

I to believe Predators should act like predators & Prey act as Prey in more depth. Been begging for it for some time myself. As a predator hunter it breaks my heart to see them as they are not to mention the populations. Except PF as it specifically states in the narrative, they have high Puma populations. 👍 well done.

When I want to see an interaction between animals, I hunt in RDR2.

very cool suggestion, I'd really like this in the game

chasing .... another example of rutting behavior .... have a random chance of a male showing up when there are females present in a zone .... So even if you have a female only herd there is a chance that a male in rut will show up ...

The male in rut will come in quickly with his nose to the ground pushing females around the zone ... he might stay for a short or longer time put no more than 15 mins (game time) before moving away ....

If there are other males present he might try to engage one in battle ... after battle animation the smaller of the 2 will flee to join another herd the large one will take his place in the herd ....

During this rutting behavior the males will be less wary and less likely to go on the alert ....

I know this is a tall order ... but what the Hey we can dream cant we? ....
