The mission is bugged, particularly if you started the game awhile ago. If you try to use a light brown puma (the most common type), it will not work; you need to have any other color (grey, dark red, mela, or albino). EW has tried for years to get this to work, but have had a lot of problems tracking down the exact source.

Well, I have this problem also (can't place the Puma) AND I got today a Diamond Red Deer, listed in the Codex as a Diamond) but this one is also NOT REGISTRATED for this mission :-((( I've sent a second support request but it seems that EW does COMPLETELY NOTHING about these, very long known, bugs! Soooo disappointing!

If you cannot place a Diamond red deer, that would be a new bug. In the past it’s only been the puma that was a problem.
