Javan rusa ingame are classified as under the genus cervus, when in reality they’re classified under the genus Rusa (same as the sambar ingame) I’m guessing it was a fluke when reading but it would be nice to get the scientific name changed to be the real one
#Javan Rusa have the wrong scientific name

what made you look this up
I’d guess free will
I like looking up random stuff about animals when I’m bored
I just noticed it myself
yeah that should be changed. Should be a simple fix

Nice catch. It’s unlikely but entirely possible they got reclassified since being put in the game. Taxonomy changes happen all the time in the fish world, so why not mammals too
At the time of writing the Rusa genus is still seperate from the Cervus genus meaning that the Javan Rusa is still under the binomial name Rusa timorensis (And Sambar Deer are still Rusa unicolor).
That has nothing to do with what I said. I wasn’t arguing about its current taxonomic status, but rather pointing out that it could have been in the Cervus genus and had its taxonomy changed since being put into the game.
Taxonomic changes happen ALL the time with the advent of DNA sequencing
