There is no post for this so I'm taking it from here, class 4? Could be set on many future African reserves or Vurhonga savannah.

Black faced Impala for a map set in either Namibia or angola

In my opinion, they should make an East African reserve (set in either Ethiopia or Tanzania), include the Lesser Kudu on that map, then remove the Lesser Kudu from Vurhonga and replace them with Impala. It would make the Vurhonga species roster much more consistent, since the Lesser Kudu is not found in the same regions as Gemsbok or Springbok, while the Impala actually is.

Absolutely love these ideas about bringing Vurhonga back up to date, although the developers just don’t see it as a necessity so we probably won’t get it until other maps are out of the way and it bugs me because COTW has been getting very boring for me lately with not enjoying G1 grinding and just searching for diamonds and rares in general. But I aware that they are busy. Pls add Africa 2.0 with all the antelope and big 5 plss.

Here's a potential distribution map I drew up for Impala. Seeming that they prefer wooded savanna to grass savanna I reckon they'll be everywhere except the central Plains, they'd only be on the edges of the Plains and maybe a stray ram or ewe heard in the Plains

But, then it all comes back to EW’s rendition of Botswana… of which has been incredibly lackluster representation.

These buggers can jump up to 3 meters high and considering that a Greater Kudu can jump 3.5m high and it's so much bigger, that's pretty impressive

gilded pike
#

So I've read an article about the Impala and it's subspecies. From what I understand, East African Impala grow the biggest both with their body and horns, but very large specimens (like the photo I attached) are exceedingly rare. Southern Impala are somewhere between East African Impala and Black faced Impala in terms of body and horn size, while Black faced Impala are the smallest of the lot in all aspects. Both trophy animals for Southern and Black faced Impala are equally rare, but less rare than East African Impala.

So impala are both grazers and browsers. They graze on green grasses, shoots and stuff in the rainy season (like December and January where we have British weather but warmer) and in the dry season they transition to browsing on bushes, shrubs and low hanging leaves. Would be awesome if EW could somehow model and programe their browsing

@gilded pike I demand more impalas

gilded pike
gilded pike
#

I've found a reason to dislike "rare" fur type impala (in a irl context). To make a long story short, they dramatically increased the price of regular impala (literally made them 2× more expensive)

weak spire
gilded pike
# weak spire Why did they make them more expensive? I dislike them generally cause they tend ...

How I understand it, it costs a lot to buy a black impala ram with good genetics and it also costs a lot to buy the ewes to breed them with so the farmers have to make up for the cost of buying these black impala quickly enough so that they don't sink their business, so they hike the prices of regular impala to make up for the cost of the special ones whilst they breed so they can make a return on their investment with their offspring.

Also I gotta be the bearer of bad news. Most hunting land in Souther Africa is fenced off with game fence that's at least 2m tall. This is for a few reasons, like, public land hunting doesn't really exist in Southern Africa so it's all privatized. Now most of these "hunting farms" as we call them are huge areas of land that are mostly untouched, say for the dirt roads, accommodation, the fences and the occasional man made water hole, especially in dryer areas. There's some animals that are really well know for their ability to move between "farms" though, like warthog, bushpig, very small antelope, leopard and hyena. It's unfortunate that we can't have public land hunting and open areas with no fences of the likes in Europe and the US, but in a country where the government is woefully incompetent and poaching is rife, these 9000 hectare game farms are crucial both for hunting and for wildlife conservation

Generally as an impala ram matures and their horns grow, they go from making an oval shape, with the point of the horns facing one another, to the horns having their lyre shape with the points facing up. Occasionally however we get horns that point slightly away from one another at the tips, in this case, more than slightly. I personally love these horns and would go so far as to say that they would make an amazing unique max score diamond

The classifications by the scientists are always odd to me. They had black faced as a new species, then they're a sub species, then East African Impala are a subspecies, then they're not.

Personally, I like the idea that there are 3 distinct subspecies of impala, namely Black Faced, Southern and East African. I think SCI recognizes those 3 because they all have different physical characteristics enough for them to all be different sub species from a 'trophy and hunting' perspective, if thay makes sense

I think adding impala to the game before or at the same time as leopard could really open up the opportunity for EW to do something cool. Leopard feed zones being impala carcasses in trees. Although leopard are very opportunistic, in areas where impala are plentiful, they make up the bulk of the leopards diet and are their preferred prey, not to mention lions also love them. Impala are an extremely important antelope in the food chain and it would be cool seeing them not only implemented as a huntable species but as a believable part of the map

So, I think I've posted this here before but I will do it again.
This is my proposed home range for Impala on Vurhonga.
The primary area that I think they should be found is in the Western region of the map, along with the outskirts of the map as they are more suitable as the impalas preferd habitat. A redistribution of lesser Kudu (as long as they're on thr map) and Springbok would compliment Impalas additin. The only movements of the home ranges for Lesser Kudu would be thay they are prevalent in the Western region as highlighted on the map where the vegetation is denser, and Springbok would be moved out of there for the most part, with the exception of a small herd or two that could stay up there

Whats your guys opinion on this ?

#

I've said it before but Impala are directly comparable to Whitetail Deer. They both fill very similar niches in their respective habitats and are the most plentiful, most common and most commonly hunted big game species in their respective habitats.

To put it onto perspective, especially for Americans, Texas has about 7 Whitetail/km² (so that's 247 Acres) where as say, the Kruger Park has 9 Impala/km²

Also they have kind of similar colour schemes and both have those bushy white tails

The southern and Western parts of vurhonga are perfect examples of the type of vegetation density Impala prefer

Apparently impala are introduced on some Texan ranches, but they're really expensive to hunt. Either way, if they're ever added to the game, theyde even be a potential species for an exotic game Texas map

Impala are generally very very skittish when drinking because they're the most vulnerable whilst doing so. Between crocodiles, lions and leopard, drinking can be a risky operation for them, so, they are very much attentive whilst drinking, if not flat out alert. I doubt this would be a popular feature in amongst the broader community but I suggest that Impala automatically be in an alert or attentive state whilst they drink. This would make them harder to sneak up on whilst at a drinking need zone but it would add an additional layer of realism and challnage which would surely add to the fun and experience of hunting these antelope in the game

EW, PLEASE if you ever add Impala to this game, either do it so the map is set somewhere along their rutting season so we can have their behavior and iconic rutting calls that dominate the bushveld day during their rut. Otherwise do it in whatever other time of the year outside of their rutting period but DON'T use their rutting calls as mating calls because they simply don't make "mating calls" outside of the rutting season, like, at all

Would south africa from the Angler (if any of you played that) be the right habitat for Impala, what other animals, I think many small mountain antelope like oribi and rhebok if this was a cotw map it is btw set in mpumalanga province

gilded pike
# weak spire Would south africa from the Angler (if any of you played that) be the right habi...

This specific part of Mpumalanga would definitely have impala because it's lowveld.
Theyde generally avoid climbing mountains, but in all the other bushveld portions, theyde be there.
It's interesting to not though that there's a portion of Mpumalanga that's practically if not literally devoid of Impala and that, is the Highland region in Mpumalanga. That's where you find black Wildebeest, fallow deer, zebra, ribbok and rietbok

#

Inside the red is where the Mpumalanga map for the angler is set, because that's the only religion with tigerfish in South Africa besides 1 other dam in KZN. But to be fair, the map from the angler takes after vurhonga in terms of species selection.
The geography is also similar enough to conclude that this is the correct region though

Ps. The blue are is highlands/prairie and the trout fishing in that area is fantastic

gilded pike
#

FInally. The thread has broken the 120 mark

gilded pike
#

Animals in CotW often look like they move soooooo slowly, so I hope that I EW make impala, they make them with one of their biggest advantages, that being their incredible speed.
Impala can reach speeds of over 90km/h (55mph) whilst fleeing predators, so I really hope they are properly fast when sprinting in game

#

If they think they have an idea if what's approaching them and it's a threat....gone in a flash

From a hunters perspective though, you're wearing camo, probably moving cautiously through the bush as to not make a ruckus and eventually the Impala hear or catch a glimpse of something moving and go alert. After Impala go Alert they generally freeze and stare, that's followed by warning calls from the group (often if they're alone they'll just stay quiet but not always)
As you get closer they'll continue to just stare trying to figure out what you are. Eventually, you're close enough and have a clear shot. You fire, the shot cracks the relative serenity of the bush, and assuming you're shooting with a .30-06 and 220gr loads, your buck is down and the rest of the heard has flinched but not run away because they are extremely confused now. This gives you the opportunity to either shoot another or wait a bit and then approach your quarry. If you decide to shoot again, after that shot, the heard takes off at break-neck speed, if you decide not to, they'll just trot off on their own. That's at least my experience hunting them irl

If EW makes impala have mating calls at all, this is thr bare minimum we need to see, otherwise rams should stay in their bachelor heards (like we see very nicely with the Manitoba elk now) but not make Any mating calls, only warning calls, assuming EW is still going for any form of realism

Also, this is why I'd argue that Impala are the Whitetail-deer of Africa, I mean check that tail and of course they fill pretty much the same niche

Of all the atypical fur variations that Impala can be, this is my favorite. Looks the most 'natural'

Went for a walk with some friends this week up around a super sketchy koppie and came across 2 impala rams owned by somebody in the area. The fence is really really low though so I wouldn't be surprised if some have or will still escape and start a wild population on the koppie which is between a residential area and a quarry. Either way it was pretty cool and we came across alot of very very fresh porcupine scat. Overall a pretty sick area

Saw this boy while I was looking for other stuff, but I figured I'd post him here. He'd make an impressive trophy

It'd be so cool
I know when Parque was released EW had implemented the whole Chasing thing that Puma/Mountain Lion do but theyde actually kill animals. I think EW removed it so that your level 5 diamond or rare fur wouldn't be killed by a predator, but I think they should reimpliment it back into the game but so that predators only attack femals, males of a certain size or smaller and not animals with a rare fur variation, if that's at all possible ofcourse. I think that'd be the best of both worlds

I really hope if EW adds impala that they manage to nail the sounds it makes and that it isn't too short or butcherd by the investigate call feature
