Im gonna be a tad blunt with this.
It's a bit ridiculous that we get all these scopes, have a literal sniper rifle in game, and theres a record tracker for longest distance kill. But for some damn reason without a second player standing nearby the animal we cant see an animal more than 400m out.
I literally just backed up last night past 400m while keeping a saltie tagged trying to get a better record kill for distance only to have it despawn on me.

And best of all the only good reason not to do so isn't a justifiable excuse since im requesting the option to do so and not a mandatory increase to render distance. Specs and all that dont come into the picture much when its a setting option
I guess theres no other skilled marksmans in this game as well judging by the lack of upvotes. My main hunting rifle and record holder for long shots is the Gandhare at 617m btw. Goes to show how good i am with the ladder sight.

The Canning is a Weatherby Mk V, it's a hunting rifle. .300 Win Mag is also fairly rare as a sniping/marksman cartridge because it's comparitively quite expensive to .308 (which has less power but comparable ballistics) and 6.5mm cartridges (which have much flatter trajectories).
In fact, standard .300 Win Mag is considered inefficient and ineffective for sniping. The only loads in .300 WM used by the US Army are the MK248 Mod 0 and Mod 1. They are loaded extremely hot (68-71k PSI by SAAMI metrics) and use very heavy bullets (Mod 0 uses a 190gr boat-tailed hollowpoint with a windscreen for aerodynamics while Mod 1 uses a 220gr specialized match round). The brass is also reinforced to handle higher pressures and it cannot be used in anything other than specially strengthened .300 WM actions, which can only be found reliably in the M24 SWS (Sniper Weapon System). Furthermore, neither MK248 Mod 0 or Mod 1 can be purchased by civilians as they are on exclusive contract with the U.S. federal government for use by marksmen in the Army, Marine Corps, and a series of special operations units.
As an added note the "Canning" is a made-up name to avoid having to deal with copyright licensing fees from including an actual one to one Weatherby Mk V.

Couple things -
Please do not discuss game mods in this server - it's requested in the rules that we don't bring it up as EW Staff have requested it not happen in the Official Community.
Re: "No reason" to extend the Render distance - I think it was capped so that older consoles can still handle it, iirc? Or something to that degree.
That said - you can do what you want in your game.. Just please do not discuss modding, share the mods, or post any modded content in this Discord as it will be removed.
Also - be civil to one another.
It's fine to be on opposing sides, but emote trolling and being rude won't be tolerated - keep the convos clean etc.
