#Moose Antlers: Revisions and Tweaks

Model-wise, Moose are exceptionally good in the quality department, and they do a great job at being faithful to their real life counterparts.

That being said, I feel that their antlers could use some updates. They aren't bad by any means, but I'll list below what I'd like to see changed/updated:

Texturing
In-game, the antlers are kinda smooth compared to their real life counterparts. Moose antlers often feature various grooves, nicks, scratches, wear, blemishes, etc. While they often do still have grooves in-game, they tend to feel rather faint.

On top of the grooves already being fairly weak, the actual textures themselves can be a little grainy/pixelated up close, which kinda detracts from the view of a trophy up-close, as well as muddying up the textures that are there

Updating the textures of the in-game antlers would help bring the antler models up to a similar standard as the body model

Shape, Tines, etc.
While the general shaping of the antlers in-game aren't bad, I'd love to see the tines updated, as well as some minor shape changes.

I've noticed that a lot of in-game antlers either have palmated brow palms or simply nothing in that space. Oftentimes, moose may not have a full palm, but may have a tine or two growing from that spot. I feel like including this could add for more unique antler variation, alongside the ones with full brow palms and the ones that lack brow tines/palms

Another thing I'd like to see is some antler variations maintaining lengthy tines, instead of sacrificing tine length for palm with. Some moose will grow wide palms while also having fairly large times along the length of them, which I feel can make for an absolutely stunning appearance.

It would also be cool to see more gnarled/uneven tines, as a lot of the antlers in-game tend to have very smooth, evenly curved tines. This isn't the case for every antler design, but I feel like it's something that could lead to a ton of unique and striking aesthetics across the different trophy ranges

Color
If possible, it would be really cool to see different antlers with different colors. Some are a light beige, others are a more tan color (like what is in-game), and some feature dark reddish-brown accents along different parts of the antlers. It's a minor difference, but it would be another neat way to improve the variation in antlers (and who knows, maybe people will seek out mismatch-color antlers as unique trophies of their own)

Of course, this isn't something that needs to happen, as most of the moose antlers in-game still look excellent. The suggested changes here simply aim to improve what we have already and to freshen up an iconic and unique trophy species

If possible, it would be really cool if this came with more antler variations based off of various real life specimens (especially Boone and Crockett record holders)

I think the color could be random / each rack could be different colors. Imagine a 300+ rack with bright white paddles and even longer tines!!!

I'd also like to see some more random TruRacs for ALL antlered species. I feel like there's a certain amount of racks and that's all. Some more or the ability for them to be much different would be very nice. It doesn't have to bee much either. An extra tine or funky piece of antler on one side would be sweet! Think I might make a whole post about simpler non - typicals as well.

I 100% agree with everything you said

  • random color variation is something I'd love

  • I agree that TruRACS is still fairly limited for the species it's on, with the most unique variation being "two different antlers that are completely different from each other and look awkward together." We don't have as much subtle variation, like a missing tine, or a tine or two bending in different angles, etc.

I would also enjoy a moose colour that had more of the white "socks" as I've noticed that happening pretty frequently irl I believe way of the hunters moose feel very good

I think either some more piebald variations, as much as I love some extreme piebalds I like some that don't have a lot. Or some more blonde-ish looking ones like the one in the snow and walking by the river. Or Mocha like furs or leuscistic would be sweet.
