#Rifle Caliber Customization

Most irl hunters or gun enthusiasts will know that you can buy most models of a rifle in a few different calibers. I propose this is implemented as a mechanic in Call of the wild. As a "flagship" rifle for this new mechanic I suggest the Ruger No.1, a single-shot breach loader. The Ruger No.1 can be chambered in literally every rifle caliber in call of the wild except .300 blk and .470NE. In total the Ruger No.1 comes in about 72 different calibers. I think this would make for a fine addition as a new rifle and a new mechanic that can be applied to all firearms in the game to some extent, further increasing the players ability to customize and tailor make their own game experience.

How I propose this works;
This mechanic is a free update to the base game. In the base game, the Ruger No.1 is the last rifle to be unlocked, once it's unlocked it can be purchased in any of the base game rifle calibers (including .454, .44 Mag and .357 Mag)

For calibers only accessible via DLC that the Ruger No.1 can use (.375 H&H, .30-06, .308 etc.) I propose that those calibers only be shown as a purchasable option for the rifle assuming the player has the required DLC to purchase and use that caliber

The end goal of this idea is to over time allow players to purchase any firearm in various calibers where applicable. For example, the .270 Huntsman (and other .270 variants) is based on the Wetherby Mk.V Hunter model. If we look at its irl caliber availability, we could easy get it in .243, .270, .30-06, .308, 6.5, and 7mm mag in game with rifle caliber customization

Running with the idea of multiple calibers for rifles in game, here's a interesting one. This is a M1 Garand (M1 Iwaniec in game) but instead of the standard .30-06, it's chamberd in .458 Winchester Magnum !

Now here's something I'd love to see in game one-day. A rifle based on the old Ruger M77 Mk.ii would really make my heart beat warm. One can get this rifle in many different calibers from .22-250 to .338 Win Mag, there's even some models that come in .375 H&H, .416 Rigby and .458 Lott !

Here's a cool one. The first gun is the "Live Q or die" Fix. This rifle comes in 3 different calibers; 6.5 Creedmore, .308 Winchester and 8.6 Blackout. I'd personally love to see an 8.6 Blackout rifle in CotW with suppressor mechanics to really make it worth using. For those who don't fancy the AR style of the Fix, the second photo is of a Remington 700 with a Faxon 8.6blk barrel. Would be great to buy a Remington 700 in anything from .223 up to .375, including 8.6 Blackout.

Here's a rifle I want to get in a number of different calibers. This is the King 470DB's irl counterpart, the Krieghoff Classic "Big Five" Double Rifle. Now, in game we only have the Big 5 model of this rifle meaning we could have it in .375, .450/.400NE, .400/.416NE, .470NE or .500NE

However, the other model is identical in most ways except it accepts smaller rifle cartridges like 7x57R, 7x65R, .308, .30-06, .30R Blaser, 8x57 IRS, 8x57 RS and 9.3x74R, so theoretically we could see all of these calibers for the King rifle in game. So the Johansson .450 has a very very nice model, with great animations and sounds in game, but it only comes in .450, of which I am not a big fan. The irl counterpart of the rifle is the Mossberg Patriot wallnut. Irl this rifle can be chamberd in 6.5mm, 7mm magnum, .22-250, .243, .270 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, .300 Magnum and .308 Winchester just to name some of the calibers already available in game. Personally I'd love it in .30-06 with the gunshot sound of the Eckers

Now this is a rifle I'd like to see in game, especially with the ability to choose its caliber. This is the much revered Winchester Model 1895. This rifle historically comes in 10 different calibers, namely;
.30-40 Krag
7.62x54R
7.92x57
.303 British
.30-03
.30-06
.35 WCF
.40-72 WCF
and "Big Medicine", the .405 Winchester.
3 of these cartridges already exist in game so I think this could be a wonderful rifle to receive with the Rifle Caliber Customization mechanic.

I think this one could satisfy a lot of small game hunters. The Drilling Rifle is a pretty customizable in terms of calibers. Depending on the make and model of the firearm, the shotgun barrels can be 12ga or 16ga and the rifle caliber can be almost anything from .22H up to 9.3x74R

I know I've posted this before but I'm lus to post it again.
There's a company that made M1 Garands, in .458 Winchester Magnum. I'm not sure how this would ever be balanced in game. Maybe insane recoil and the gun itself is very expensive along with ammo that isn't too cheap either ?

odd compass

Right, here's an interesting one. The little ol M1 Carbine. Originally they come chambered in .30 Carbine, it's debatable how well it'll perform in a hunting role but some claim it's great for small game and deer, others say you can take moose with it (maybe it takes a whole mag). The M1 Carbine can be rechamberd for a number of different calibers, including; .45 Winchester Magnum, .22 Spitfire (also known as 5.7 Spitfire), .50 AE and .256 Winchester Magnum. I think this could be a really nice, light small-medium game rifle. (Think classes 1-4/5 for the various calibers)

odd compass

# covert steppe There we go, perfect C3 gun for CotW

Yeah, and .30 carbine ammo has improved majorly since then too. Polymer Tipped high velocity rounds are pretty easy to find and the rifles being made are designed to function with the stronger ammo too.

I'm my home town I actually knew someone who liked hunting feral pigs with one. He targeted pigs in 30 to 60ish pound range but it did the job

I think that I've posted this one before, but I'd really like a rifle based off of the Remington 700 SPS Tactical with a heavy 20" barrel. It can be chamberd for .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmore, .300 AAC BLK and .223 Remington. Also it has a threaded muzzle so it can easily fit something like a suppressor if it were ever added to CotW.

• Various Caliber/Ga - Ammo/Shell Options to hunt various game
• Weapon accessory Slots: Stocks, Barrels, Brakes/Chokes, Forend: (Grips/Bipods)

I'd gladly restart my playthrough if this happens and it would expand gameplay as well as more Credit use. I hate buying Weapon Packs and getting them for free, its like a handout. Sadly thats all I use that reserve for because it feels empty after finishing the Narrative. It does pain me to say that, however if hyenas & Honey Badgers get ported into it I'll likely hunt it more. I'm really hoping 2.0 has at least 3-4 predators to hunt aside from the leopard. Me personally though, I hope EW makes a "super map" for Africa 2.0, I'm willing to pay between 2 and 3 times the price and wait long for it, but what I expect is an accurate depiction of a very specific region of Africa (preferably in the Messina region of South Africa) where the geography is good and the Flora is right. Then with regards to animals, I expect a minimum of 28 species for the map (double the most we have on a map rn) but I can easily make a list of 35-40. You'll be happy to know it includes a handful of fur bears and predators lol. And finally, 1 new, beautiful rifle and a nice new thematic outfit. For that, I'd be ready to pay substantially more for and wait as long as it takes.

I wouldn't mind a Ruger Mini-14 in game with this suggested mechanic. I'd hope though that the scope mounting option is one of the 3 that I've attached.

So here's the Mini-14's big brother, the M14 (in this case the Springfeld ArmouryM1A)

From the factory the M1A can be purchased in .308 or 6.5 Creedmoore

But then things get a little....crazy. The CZ 550 is available in calibers like .375 H&H, .416 Rigby and up to the might .500 Jeffery, but that's not the crazy part.
The crazy part is the ".600 Overkill" cartridge designed specifically for the CZ 550. This monster cartridge and fling a 900 grain projectile at more than 2,400fps producing over 10.000ft/lbs of energy....apparently it can do the same with 1000 grain projectiles too.

covert steppe
# lost mesa I like this idea but how would this work in the awful COTW UI ??? Its' alrea...

I'm not entirely sure what would work best honestly. The ideas I've had vary depending on if EW implements the customisation as something similar to the visual customisation available for firearms in game already or if they implement it as every different caliber of the same model firearm you buy is considered a different firearm. The latter would certainly call for a rework of the storage UI and perhaps the store UI as well, but I also think the latter would be the best implementation of caliber customization

. 270 in a lever action could be incredible, and this model also fits .30-06 just fine so it could theoretically be chambered in 9.3x62mm as well

# odd compass I recommend having a look, they've got some very interesting designs

After a quick glance I already really live their Model 870 Rover, the first rifle, and the Model 90 in the second photo. The first rifle is a 9.3x62 with a 22' barrel. All I know about the second is it's a Model 90 in .30-06

It also seems the Model 870 is available in, .22-250, .223 Rem, .243 Win, 6mm BR Rem, 6.5x47 Lapua, 7mm-08, 7.62x39, .308, .25-06, .270 Win, 6.5x55, .30-06, 7mm Rem Mag and .300 Win Mag so it fits the idea of this thread very very well

I mentioned the Ruger M77 Mk.ii a little while ago, and I'm pretty sure I have before that, and I'm about to do it again. The M77 Mk.ii would be a great candidate for "flagship" rifle for this feature. It comes in an insane number of calibers, also it's just such a good looking and nice to handel rifle in my opinion. At about 8-8.5 pounds total weight, it's a great spot and stalk gun. From my experience, the .30-06 version really gets work done here in SA

Anyways here's the factory standard calibers for it.

Rimfire and Small Calibers: .17 HMR, .17 HM2, .17 Hornet, .204 Ruger, .22 Hornet, .220 Swift, .222 Rem, .223 Rem, .22-250 Rem

Medium Calibers: .243 Win, .250 Savage, .257 Roberts, .260 Rem, 6mm PPC, 6.5x55mm Swedish, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.8mm SPC, .270 Win, 7x57mm Mauser, 7mm-08 Rem, .280 Rem, .284 Win, .308 Win, .30-06 Springfield, .338 Federal

Magnum and Large Calibers: .25-06 Rem, .270 Weatherby Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag, .300 Weatherby Mag, .300 RCM, .338 Win Mag, .338 RCM, .340 Weatherby Mag, .350 Rem Mag, .35 Whelen, .375 H&H Mag, .375 Ruger, .404 Jeffery, .416 Ruger, .416 Rigby, .425 Express, .450 Bushmaster, .458 Lott

Pistol Calibers: .357 Mag, .44 Mag

Specialty Calibers: .275 Rigby (Lipsey’s special run), 8mm Rem Mag

They're also available in 9.3x62 Mauser, I'm just not certain if it's a factory standard caliber.

This is an example of caliber swap I'd absolutely love in Cotw
This is the Weatherby Mark V dangerous game rifle, it's very very similar to the .300 Canning Magnum (the .300 is based on the Mark V)
This specific variant of the Mark V is chambered for .416 Weatherby Magnum, which packs the punch of .416 Rigby, but also can reach out to 300yard easily making it perfect for both plains game like gemsbok and Wildebeest and for the biggest game like Cape Buffalo

Seeming that were getting a beautiful Marlin Model 336 in .30-30 with the new map I think I'll mention it here.

The Model 336 is currently only available in .30-30 but historically has been available in .219 Zipper, .307 Winchester, .35 Remington, .32-40 WCF, .32 Special, .338 Marlin Express, .356 Winchester, .375 Winchester, .38-55 Winchester, .44 Magnum and .410 bore
So quite a variety of calibers

Ok this is just a rifle I really like so I'll harp on about it again because I just thought about it.
These are the M24 SWS and M24A3 SWS respectively. They're both just military issue versions of the Remington Model 700 for those that don't know. The M24 SWS is a .308 Winchester variant with a 5rnd internal magazine where as the M24A3 SWS is a .338 Lapua 5rd box magazine variant.

These would really just slot in with the M700 in game were this mechanic ever implemented, but I though I'd just talk about a rifle I really love again

I had a thought thos morning, why can I not make the coumo pistol a .357 magnum? Or a .454? .223? .308? I mean, the thing has a lion engraved on it why can it not be a lion hunting caliber?

odd compass
# covert steppe Bump

Thinking about this earlier, but the Vallagarda .375 could also be chambered for the .338 and .416 or .458. I'd absolutely love to have a .338 in a traditional style rifle

Even if the front sight bead is annoyingly small

covert steppe
odd compass
# covert steppe It's really interesting when you look into the irl counterparts for the firearms...

Generally, just about every rifle in the game could have two additional calibers to swap too, several of which are actually in game now.

The revolvers are a bit different but the single shot pistols especially are good for caliber swapping. I'd love to see the option for even just 2 alternatives. I know I use the Huntsman rifle as my example a lot so I'll use the Coachmate for this example.

Coachmate .45-70, 48k/4-9
Coachmate .444, 48k/ 4-8
Coachmate .450 magnum, 48k/7-9

All three calibers handle things a little differently but they work together to make it a way more viable gun for any loadout

odd compass

I know this is as basic a rifle design as there can be but I'd still love to have this option. You can chamber this type of rifle in literally any cartridge imaginable but I'd love to see some of the old school rimmed cartridges like .38-55 or the newer straight wall cartridges like .350 legend or .360 buckhammer got some interest

covert steppe
#

So the Weatherby Mark.V (.270 Huntsman) comes in some rather interesting calibers, namely;
.240 Wby Mag
.257 Wby Mag
.270 Wby Mag
30-378 Wby Mag
.300 Wby Mag
338-378 Wby Mag
.340 Wby Mag
.378 Wby Mag
.416 Wby Mag
.460 Wby Mag
6.5 Wby RPM
6.5-300 Wby Mag
7mm Wby Mag

So the long and the short is, they like chambering their rifles in their home made calibers, which is really cool and unique imo

A game ready model of the Marlin 1895, we have one already in .45-70 which is a dumpster fire (less range and stopping power than a pistol apparently) but there's a handful of other calibers we could have that are really impressive 7-9 class monsters
.444 Marlin
.450 Marlin
.50 Alaskan
To name a few
