Welcome to Barari Sands Hunting Park, a resort made specifically for hunters who are looking for a relaxing hunting trip, you may find yourself glassing a herd of Sand Gazelle in the open desert or chasing after Arabian Tahr in the rocky hills, but many hunters come here to stalk Arabian Oryx over the sand dunes. These animals alongside many others can be hunted thanks to our conservation program and its not just antelope and tahr that may be hunted here. Nighttime hunting for predators can be a thrill even from a blind as you might either call in a pack of jackals or even a roaming hyena while the wingshooting here is a good excuse to bring along your favourite shotgun as sandgrouse, francolin and the Asian Houbara all call the park home. I hope you have a wonderful time here at Barari Sands Hunting Park.

Reserve Summary

  • A compact desert reserve in the United Arab Emirates, the edges of the reserve are surrounded by camel proof fencing to protect the local flora from domesticated goats and free roaming dromedary camels
  • The southern part of the reserve is a rocky area inhabited by recently reintroduced Arabian Tahr though some Arabian Gazelle do occur in the less rocky areas
  • While the land has very little cover, you should consider the fact that this could make your hunt even more difficult and you should use the shifting dunes as cover to creep closer to your prey
  • The main trees on the reserve include Ghaf Trees (Prosopis cineraria), Umbrella Thorn Acacia (Vachellia tortillis) and some Date Palms. There is also a fair bit of saltbush in any place it can grow
  • The lake to the south is the main waterfowl hotspot though you may find shelduck, coot and garganey on many of the oases throughout the reserve.
  • The Sand Dunes allow for an excellant vantage point for glassing herds of antelope and for long-range shooting on said antelope

The Map: The Starting outpost would ideally be in the middle of the map. The southeastern part of the map is the only part of the map where Arabian Tahr can be found and the big lake next to it is waterfowl central. The Green areas are where a lot of plants grow and given that they surround the oases its a good place to find animals like oryx, gazelle and the rarely seen striped hyena

#

The Ghaf Tree (First Image) and Umbrella Thorn Acacia (Second Image) are some of the most common trees on the map alongside the Date Palm

For Weapons I have chosen the following

  • 9.3x62 Straight Pull Rifle (Based on the Blaser R93)
  • 50 Caliber Airgun (Based on the Seneca Double Shot) with 3 ammo types: Shotshells for bird hunting, hollowpoint bullets and airbolts

This Reserve is essentially the same size as Salzwiesen Park since the hunting area that inspired this reserve is not that big to begin with, that is why out of the 5 Big Game Species, one of them is limited to one corner of the map and the other one has a small population spread out across the map

#

And speaking of Big Game, I might as well start with the Sand Gazelle, a very widespread gazelle that can be found alongside the Arabian Oryx, they are often the first big game animal visiting hunters will often shoot. In the past they were once considered a subspecies of the Goitered Gazelle but are now considered their own species (Range Map included: They are only absent from the rocky southeastern corner)

#

The other Gazelle is the Arabian Gazelle, a smaller species that prefers the greener areas of the park, they are sometimes called mountain gazelles due to their habitat preferrence and can sometimes be seen feeding alongside Arabian Tahr (Range map included)

#

The Arabian Oryx is animal that has always attracted hunters to Barari Sands thanks to their long spear-like horns and striking appearance, it is believed that the myth of the unicorn originted from sightings of one-horned oryx in the desert. Hunters seeking to ambush the oryx at close range should set up a blind near an oasis and wait for the herd to come and drink (Range map is the same as the Sand Gazelle Range Map)

#

The largest carnivore found in the park, the Striped Hyena is also an elusive animal with an estimated population of 12 to 16 animals visiting the park at any given time (they get under the camel proof fence, but they are forgiven since they do clean up animals that died of old age or sickness). Hunting a hyena can be a daunting task as they cover a large territory and can only be called in during the night when they are most active (Range Map indicated a wide distribution but they are rare)

#

Arabian Tahr are another special animal and one that was recently reintroduced a few years ago, and the results have been excellant with a sizable population, though they are restricted to the rocky hills in the southeastern part of the map, and for some reason they have never been seen drinking at the small rocky pools (No Drink Zones, shouldn't be terribly difficult to hunt them since the map is smaller) and therefore hunters must approach these animals differently from the gazelles and oryx (Range Map included)

#

The Small Game of the reserve is a bit more varied with Cape Hare, Jackal, Mongoose and the introduced Rock Hyrax being the most abundant, though Indian Porcupines have been seen in the greener parts of the hunting grounds and Caracal are a rarer species that can be seen hunting sandgrouse. While jackal and hare can be found all over the park and the caracal has also been seen in every corner, the rock hyrax only occurs in the rocky hills alongside tahr and the mongoose and porcupine seem to prefer the greener parts of the hunting grounds (The Mongoose/Porcupine Range map is included

I have seen both of those

#

The waterfowl hunting on Barari Sands is rather limited and yet 4 species can be regularly seen here: Ruddy Shelduck, Garganey, Eurasian Coot and Common Snipe. To hunt these you can either head to the many oases or visit the large lake to the south (See attached Range Map)

#

The Upland Birds of Barari Sands are also abundant with 5 species: Asian Houbara (the largest), Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse, Gray Francolin (Introduced), Chukar (Introduced) and Laughing Dove. While the Chukar is limited to the rocky hills the other species live wherever there is cover with the sandgrouse being the most widespread of the 5, lets hope you brought along your favourite shotgun

Now I think about it the outpost does make the map look comically small, but it is a basic concept of how I imagine the map would look

A feature that could come with this reserve but would be hard to implement is Falconry, especially since falconry is a big part of the culture in the Arabian Peninsula

#

Emphasis on: Hard to implement

They got horns, don’t they? I’m just saying I want more cool horns from the different animals. Thank you for correcting me, but also I believe musk deer are the best deer in the game, so…z_muskdeer

Quick Reminder: This map concept is meant to be a Big Game focused Salzwiesen Park-sized Map

honestly the Middle East could be a really cool setting for a future map. There's a lot of really cool animals there, plenty of potential for new species. It doesn't get talked about enough imo

#

obviously there's some geopolitical issues in certain parts of the Middle East that might make it a bit controversial to depict in the game, but the UAE is one of the countries that doesn't have that issue as much. A new map that is set there has a lot of potential.
