I've been trying the pointer out and I am getting used to the quirks but every time I try to flush using the dog it runs up to the bird and just sits next to it and the bird just looks at it and does not fly away until I get up and run at it. I don't know if this is a dog issue or a bird issue because I found a pheasant pretending it was a fish.
