The moose in-game are outstanding. I would argue that they are some of the most lifelike animals in the game, between how they look, how they move, how it feels to hunt them, etc.
There's only one problem I have, and that lies in their sounds. Right now, moose make the "moose sounds" that you see all over the media, when those sounds are actually reversed brown bear calls (like the bull's mating call) and edited red stag roars (all of the cow's calls). I'm not sure what specific sound the bull's more explosive roar-like warning call comes from, so if any moose experts know, I'd love to learn more!
Moose enthusiasts, be it biologists or hunters, especially know that this is not how they sound. Cows make a long, nasally moan-like call to signal that they are ready to mate, while bulls make multiple short grunts. What's really weird is that we have a moose caller in-game, and the player makes a sound that is much more like a cow moose's call.
I understand that updating these sounds to be more faithful to real moose would make moose sound less "cool" and "iconic," as it wouldn't be as loud, but I feel like staying true to the animal is important. I know Way of the Hunter uses actual moose calls, so I'd love to see that done here as well. It would also be neat if the calls they make (if this change were to go through) could feature multiple vocalizations per call instance, like multiple grunts from a bull's mating call, or an extra moan from the cow's mating call.
Included with this post is a recording from in Way of the Hunter, featuring their Alaskan Moose. In the first YouTube video, you can hear both bull and cow vocalizations. In the second, it plays a moose's alarm bark. I'd like to see this replace the cow's warning calls, as well as the variant for the bull that just sounds like one of its current mating calls.
