To my understanding this is a northern german small game map so with that being said why are we not including all of the small game that can be found in Germany? Birds for example that we are missing would include quail, chukar, grey partridge, and prairie chickens along with even some dove species such as European turtle doves, Eurasian collared dove, rock pigeons, stock dove, and common wood pigeon. I really don’t understand why make a map based on animals such as this and then leave them out. I understand the complexity to create new birds and then add them and complete there ai in the game but if your going to do something you should always do it right. I also have concerns for the wet lands because we could still be adding even more duck species like northern shovelers, marbled teal, king eider, stellers eidar, pintail, common eidar, mandarin ducks. I understand we can’t have them all but there’s a lot of key takeaways from that list and even more that I didn’t list. I am happy to be getting 2 new species im very excited but as a water fowl hunter myself diversity will always be the thing that I look forward to and i like a wide range of birds to be able to shoot rather than being limited to a small number. The list of goose species is also limited as well there could definitely be more possibly added. I do like the idea of a new OU 10G but I do feel like we need possibly still some more examples of smaller bore shotgun representation as personally I’d love to see a full sized OU or SXS 410 for really fun tricky hunts. Another shotgun I am yet to see in hunter cotw is 28G which is another smaller gauge shotgun that would go beautifully with the upland game bird theme of the map.
#Salzwiesen map concerns

Yeah, it was quite sad to not see any partridges.
I will agree it was a missed opportunity for 410ga with added slugs as well as a 28ga because every reserve reward always had the huntable game on the reserve in mind. Sadly I dont see a 10ga being appropriate in this case where our game in this reserve range between 1-3 classes where 410ga or a 28ga would've been 🧐
I understand wanting the common quail, grey partridge and the various dove and pigeon species (Because this map would have been perfect for introducing those species) but when did Germany end up with any of the Prairie Chickens. All 3 species of Prairie Chickens are native to North America
maybe mixed messaging with my post? I adjusted mine bc looking bk at it I could see it 😅
i like
They just add 2 new birds species... this is a joke
I really don't see why we must have rabbits on every map .... why not remove rabbits and add quail ???
also racoon and racoon dogs? One or the other would have been fine making room for another bird species ....
A preexisting species like euro rabbit is easier to add than a newer bird, and raccoons and raccoon dogs are not the same so I don't see why they would only add one
Two rabbits on one map is where I draw the line
Could’ve gotten Gray Partridge
Is there going to be two rabbits? I didn't think that was confirmed
Yeah, recycled assets from revontuli and hirsch with 2 added reskinned duck. Low effort map, but will probably sell it for the same price as Nepal.
They didn’t but everyone seems to think they are going to
Gotcha. I could see them doing it but I would prefer roe, sika, or boar. Any of those would be good fits imo
There are probably only 2 upland birds on it, black grouse and pheasant, since all the others on rev are not found in this area.
I'm a really big fan of bird hunting but for me this map is really a mixed revontuli and hirsch yes, but I don't think they will sell it like Sundarpatan price
I will buy it if it's priced fairly, but probably skip the other 2 useless dlcs
I think the dog and weapons will really be top tier dlc, that's what I think
Occurrence of Black Grouse populations (black areas) in Germany. It explains why there are black grouse in the Salzwiesen Park.
In Germany, corvid birds are also hunted. Source: https://www.jagdverband.de/sites/default/files/2021-03/2021_DJV-Broschüre-Rabenvögel-Broschüre.pdf
Egyptian goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca) This species was introduced earlier in this country, and in German, this species is invasive.
Coypu (Myocastor coypus)
But the reserve is based in schleswig-holstein, so technically no grouse there.
Grey Partridge, where are you?
Having zero partridges on any of our European maps is utmost blasphemy
Wasn't quail in the trailer?
I don’t think so
2 maps in a row no chukar when it couldve been added, not sure my weary heart can take it any longer
I realize racoons and racoon dogs are not the same but on such a small map with limited space I question the decision to add both
I think it was a good choice to select the raccoon and the raccoon dog, as both species are invasive and overpopulated in Germany. I would prefer they add the coypu as well because it is also invasive, like the others.
The population of European hares and Ring-necked Pheasants in Germany is experiencing a decline.
their population is in Niedersachsen the map is located in Schlesig-Holstein so i dont realy get behind but i`m okay with it
im hoping we see atleast a bit of this in the map. thats the area where black grouse live in Niedersachsen
An actual distribution map of the Black Grouse
yeah black grouse are far away
Literally unplayable
na i´m okay with it
As seen in the trailer, all the textures and vegetation of Hischfelden are the same, It doesn't look like they've made any new designs .
These grasslands here would be the most similar to the ones above, but apparently they will be in the wetland area.
Same Red sorrels/sheep´s sorrels like Hirschfelden map
hhm looks slightly different to me but i wouldnt mind if they are the same...
I also have no problem with the same vegetation and textures, I consider this new map as an "expansion" of Hirschfelden or a "small game season", something that has been requested for years, it would have been great to have new species but anyway it is good since it opens a new range of possibilities of "expansion" for other maps where there are still missing species to complete the native game species 👌
I don't have a problem with the recycled textures and animals, but I would only have a problem with the price. This reserve took them 50% of the effort needed for SP or EC at most, but I think it will cost the same.
Welcome back to cotw Rexio, haven't seen you in a while 🙂
Thanks Zaren, I was away for a while since I did not agree with the content policies applied in the launch of Nepal, however seeing that they have decided to expand the hunting modalities I have decided to participate again and make my contributions 🙂
I understand, everyone is absolutely entitled to their opinion, I personally loved Nepal and the door it opened to more exciting animals, and I have a feeling with this teaser they showed at the end of the show, we might be getting Polar Bears in June
But we'll see, regardless, glad you're back!!!
Nepal I’m going to be honest with you was a let down as they added the main animals but no birds that actually inhibit the jungles of Nepal and uplands. Nepal is a game bird hunters paradise but we got none.
That’s not the point, the point is there missing other keystone small game within the region. Why add a half assed map to a game that deserves love.
If they make each one a bird hunting map, they'll go bankrupt, but I personally wanted peacocks on Nepal, so I feel ya
But no worries, I think the next map on Dec 3rd will once again be for bird hunters
Nobody is asking for every map to be a bird hunting map, just countries famous for bird hunting.
Imo each map should have at least 2 bird species and at least 15 species in total, not 13
Peacocks and another new bird on Sundarpatan instead of Wooly hare, and plus Sambar deer would've been the perfect map with 15 species
C9 Bengal Tiger
C9 Water Buffalo
C9 Wild Yak
C7 Sambar
C6 Nilgai
C6 Barasingha
C4 Snow Leopard
C4 Tahr
C4 Blue Sheep
C3 Blackbuck
C3 Northern Red Muntjac
C2 Tibetan Fox
C1 Greylag Goose
C1 Peacock
C1 (Another New Bird)
Perfect Sundarpatan
Would you have preferred that they didn't add anything?
Due to the extension in the development times that the studio had already proposed, we all assumed that they wouldn't "create" another map this year, logically not new species either.
However, they decided to respond to some of the community's requests and add a map, small, with recycled render and textures but that simulates a Small Game Season very well (where the only thing you can shoot are small game species and travel through a few biomes where they live)...

This even opens up the possibility of adding Expansions for other maps where small animals are missing due to the difference in hunting seasons, or even adding other modalities such as trapping.

The way I see it, this is a great step to expand the game, cover more geographic regions, fill in missing species, and include more hunting modes.
It seems that the biome is different in the photo of the black grouse: the forested area corresponds to the region of Land Niedersachsen, while the wetland biome belongs to the region of Schleswig-Holstein. It is just my observation. I hope the new map is a good design.
According to what Lenni said at the Winter Preview Show the map will have Meadow (rabbits), Cornfields (Upland birds/pheasant), Beach Forest (Upland Birds/Foxes..) , Wetland (Waterfowl) biomes..
Basically all the forests used in Hirschfelden that contain mixed trees are Atlantic Mixed Forests, which are located in Northwestern Germany, I think it works for black grouse
The points not to make bird hunting maps the points to fill in the diversity maps. If anything they wouldn’t go bankrupt because if they actually made a fulfilling map and put in the time they could raise the price which I have no problem with because Ik it’s worth my time.
Idc whether or not they make a new map I care whether or not that they are at least going to make it worth while to play on. I care about under represented animals in the game that a lot of the community has been wanting.
Personally when it comes to fulfilling a deadline for the hunter cotw I prefer the dev team to take there time and really make each map a wonderful experience. The long awaited revontuli map which took forever to release will still always be one of my favorites because the devs actually took there time to make the map beautiful and amazing. I can understand the need to rush things in a work environment and just get it out fast for the player base but when you make fast paced high quantity work your quality falters and creates an Imbalance. A lot of people are always going to be greedy for content so I can see why they may just want to knock it out and get it out of the way but there missing out on a lot of opportunity’s by NOT working on it a little harder and making the map that much better.
I’m a ceramicist and within my own business there is an opportunity cost. If I put less time into something the worse it’s going to likely be. That is with everything in life. And if im going to play a game I atleast want the quality of something worth my time and money.
The opportunity cost is inevitable, the engine is limited, the number of species and size that can be designed and used correctly on the map is very limited, It happened on all maps and will continue to happen, that is precisely why many of us asked for map expansions, even i suggested the new species DLC.
Kinda looks like revontuli
We look forward to seeing it on December 3rd
I understand the desire to have a bird centric map for Nepal .... The current Nepal map is notably absent of birds ... But who's to say they wont add a small Nepal map that is more geared toward upland birds in the future ?
Certainly they are showing that they are able and may be willing to do so .... after we see how this map goes I suggest someone propose a small Upland bird map in that region ... I would certainly vote for it ....
Personally, I have very few issues with this map. It’s 1/2 the size of a normal map, so I doubt it’ll be sold for as much as Sundarpatan.
The species present (with the exception of Black Grouse) are all accurate to the location of the real life Salzweisen Salt Marshes.
The 2 new great ones will be fun to hunt for on this map, especially with how compact it is.
Many returning species can be hunted in a new, fresh location (namely Raccoon Dogs and Common Raccoons).
The 2 new ducks look amazing and will make for wonderful hunts.
It’s actually supposed to be smaller it’s a “mini map”
Brother I feel you as somebody who has been to northern Germany so many times I can assure you that there is more species needed, when I saw the trailer I immediately screamed "HUNS!" I think we should have gotten at least 4-5 new waterfowl species or at least badgers, I understand how much work doves would be but like at least some ducks I would have wished to see some of these
-common eider
-long tailed duck
-velvet scoter
-barnacle goose
-brant goose
-common Pochard
-greater scaup
-northern shoveler
-northern pintail
-garganey
They could still be added for backfills
Well they said it'll be a small game map. In Germany we call small game "Niederwild". Roe deer, in Germany, also counts as Niederwild. I think it would be a great addition to the Salzwiesen map. Even if they would just be on the fields.
With 15 species crowded into a small map I expect see see lots of zone crossover especially among the water fowl ....
And by crossover I mean the same zone being used for multiple species at different times ....
I’d be happy with that tbh becuase it just means there’s more opportunity’s
