However, after spending some time hunting larger game (5-8 class) I noticed nothing really feels like it's meant for game like that. Sure, the Eckers does it well but I'm interested in expanding our possibilities.
These are more focused on folks who like hunting in close quarters, some of the rifles do have some reach but they shine inside 300m. This is more or less what I'd love to have for stalking Sambars and Nilgai at their feed zones. Hope you guys like them
.358 Winchester. A wildcat developed on the .308 Winchester case that was designed to give short action rifles a considerable boost in power. This cartridge allows for lighter more compact rifles that can handle game like elk, black bear, and mule deer.
.348 Winchester. A modified. 45-70 case changed to hold a .35 caliber bullet. This was designed to give older model lever action rifles a more accurate cartridge capable of taking on big game at better ranges. Widely considered a perfect cartridge for animals like brown and Grizzly bears, it's also well known for taking moose and elk effectively.
Last but not least by any stretch.
.35 Whelen. Developed by the legendary Colonel Townsend Whelen and partners to bring a reliable dangerous game rifle to common folks. The .35 Whelen is based on the .30-06 Springfield cartridge, allowing it to fit any standard action. This cartridge has taken everything from mule deer to giraffe and a few more with powerful terminal performance and mild recoil.
It's sometimes called the poor man's .375
