#Bestiary/ Backfilling for Layton Lake District

Layton Lake District is an early map, but it looks emptier and the peaks more boring, so why not place some visible species towards Washington as they are found here.
Species that may represent this location are:

  • The Rocky Mountain Goat can be seen on the snow-capped peaks of the Kraken Mountains and other mountainous areas.
  • Rocky Mountain Bighorn sheep or California Bighorn sheep may also be a good example of a species.
  • Marmots:
to the west, The Olympus Marmot.
in the east, the yellow-bellied marmot
In the far northwest of the map is the Rocky Mountain Marmot.
  • Rocky Mountain Elk in the West, from what I've seen, was just reintroduced in the 1900's and is still around. they are in the northwest further south so the same for what will be if one day they are on Layton Lake District
  • The Mackenzie wolf is found further north and east of the map and is rare (206 individuals from what I have seen) therefore a species that will be rarer and therefore difficult to see.
  • The sooty and dusky groose, the sooty to the west of the map and the dusky to the east.
  • the white-tailed ptarmigan, it is actually not possible to hunt them but hey, bison can be hunted in Germany. Than to the west of the map.
  • The California quail and Mountain quail, the California quail is located in the north, west and . and the mountain one is in south and east.
  • Cougars, puma, mountain lions ( low population)
  • American badger
  • Bufflehead
  • Rio Grande's Turkey
  • American Wigeon
  • American Porcucine
  • Mule Deer
  • Mackenzie Wolf
If you have other suggestions, don't hesitate.

Knowing that I don't know much about the species from there, especially ducks, if you have any suggestions or ideas, don't hesitate.

I honestly can see any new species above class 4 fitting on Layton anything smaller I can see

Don’t forget Cougars (also Low Pop) found North and Western regions

strong jewel

Ok

strong jewel
#

Bufflehead, that be a example

strong jewel
#

we can also remove the whistling duck from Vurhonga and put it here from what I saw is possible, if I understood correctly. Otherwise I didn't find it to be the elk subtype towards Layton Lake District. There is also the fact that the Roosevelt Elk can be found a little higher up as they are known to live in rescued areas. Otherwise I'll see this evening if I don't find any interesting little terrestrial creatures.

strong jewel
#

Ok

#

Maybe something like the american badger for ground.

dull citrus
strong jewel
#

Yes i make a mistake about it's name

strong jewel
#

otherwise there is also the beaver, undoubtedly the Canadian beaver. I'm always trying to find more species on land. Maybe towards the water area down below. but I don't know if it's a lake or the sea.

Ok

#

Thanks you, is there another subspecies like the turkey that we could also find in this map? because I didn't find anything in my searches.

faint mortar
strong jewel
#

I know it's in Washington but we're not heading where because from what I see there are 3 subspecies because a map with various subspecies of turkeys could be cool. I find it fun in any case. thank you also for this absolutely brilliant map.

#

there are two subspecies of the Hermione deer, the black-tailed deer (we already have it) and the rocky mountain mule deer (the middle and the entire east of the map while the black-tailed deer further west and probably also the middle of the map

#

for the white-tailed deer, that of Colombia (the river) and the North-West.

#

Do you think the Mustang could be a good large species to be added to Layton Lake District or not?. Because I don't know, I haven't seen horses yet so I don't know if it can be taboo, if it's accepted. I'm trying to find plains animals because there are quite a few large plains in this map but empty.

dull citrus
# strong jewel Do you think the Mustang could be a good large species to be added to Layton Lak...

Eh, Mustangs are a contentious issue in the United States

You got people who want them managed by round ups and you got people who want them to roam free at the expense of species that are sensitive to habitat disturbances like the sage grouse and a very small minority that believes they should be managed as a game animal

Also the larger animals that exist on Layton are fine as is, Elk (Wapiti) have historically been a plains animal and the Great Plains for example use to have large herds of Rocky Mountain and Manitoban Elk

strong jewel
#

Ok thanks you

strong jewel
#

For red foxes, the only one I found that is in this place is this one
vulpes v Cascandensis:
A subspecies with a small tail and small teeth, and rather yellow fur. But it is disappearing. If you know one less problematic I am interested. I'll still post a photo for you.

Is that confirmed?

verbal garden
# formal hemlock Is that confirmed?

Kinda, it's confirmed us it has black tailed deer so yeah, I think there was some confirmation against it Beeing in Oregon but I don't remember

formal hemlock
#

Meh, the BT doesn't mean much imo - BC has Columbian BT too and that's what I mean by this game not really needing to exist in hard boundaries. Stone's Sheep > any other mountain game choice really

verbal garden
formal hemlock
#

Ehhhhh Bighorn needs subspecies splits AND model rework to be fair

strong jewel
#

Especially Layton needs animals on its mountains because a very large part of the map is mountains. I would have said the elk of the rocky mountains and the various marmots mentioned (because Frenchly 2 species of elk in the same maps would be the best maps ever).

formal hemlock
#

Nah, RME are further inland - hence Rosies. But Stone's Sheep would be a lovely choice and it's been a looonnnnngggggg time since they've been in a hunting game.

strong jewel
#

The stone sheep I saw is not found near this location. Believed to have been inspired by the Cascade Mountains. And I didn't see that they were there even though I would have liked to have them.

formal hemlock
#

Eh, we do a bit of stretching LOL

Love your idea of marmot, though SRP probably needs them even more than Layton

strong jewel
#

we would have to look at the marmots who live near where it is located then it seems to me to be the Colorado Rockies if I remember correctly

formal hemlock
#

Ye that would be Yellow-bellied

strong jewel
#

from what I could see there is only one species of marmot so we can't do it for RME

formal hemlock
#

What

strong jewel
#

The idea of different species of marmot, I tried to look for different subspecies for like that, it can be like this map there but apart from the yellow-bellied I didn't find any other subspecies

#

For Layton I found 3 but for Silver Ridge peaks 1

formal hemlock
#

Yes, you don't need 3 different species on one map...

strong jewel

Also, please make Mountain lions/pumas like snow Leppards in general

#

All right. it seems to me that this one I noted it I will check but yes I would like at least either the Mountain Lion or the Elk of the Rocky Mountains or in any case 1 mountain animal because Frenchly as I said have as many mountain all as beautiful as each other without having anything on it which is a shame. Afterwards I don't say the 2 or the animals at the same time but that over time he gradually adds more diversity to the mountain of Layton

Mountain goats cause significant damage in Olympic National Park, a protected natural area in Washington State, United States. Result: around a hundred of them were moved this month to another territory, by helicopter.

dull citrus
# strong jewel Rocky Mountain Bighorn sheep or California Bighorn sheep

"Canada Bighorn"? Depending on which classification is used the bighorn sheep that live in Layton Lakes are either Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep (scientific classification) or California Bighorn Sheep (classification used by organizations like the Grand Slam Club and Safari Club International), not "Canada Bighorn Sheep"

strong jewel

Yellow : The Mountain quail

If you want to split the map's animal ranges up that way, we should also split the (hypothetical) ranges of Mule Deer and Blacktail Deer the same way, along with the 2 elk subspecies. Realistically, Mule Deer and Rocky Elk would fit better on the eastern half of the reserve, with Blacktails and Roosevelt Elk in the west.

This is all just my own opinion, but personally I think your backfilling suggestion has a lot of things that I would change. I think it's too broad. All of Layton has pretty much the same three biomes (lowland marshes and aspen forest, evergreen coniferous forest, and Subalpine Larch/Spruce forest), with none of the drier regions further east of the Cascades being well-represented, which are where some of these species you mentioned tend to be found in the Pacific Northwest.

As a result, I would personally prefer Layton without species like the Rocky Mountain Elk or Mule Deer. The map has more than enough antlered animals already, and I really don't think it needs more. Adding more will clutter the map a bit too much with animals that fill the exact same roles as existing ones.

As for Grouse species, the ones I'd want on Layton are the Ruffed Grouse and Sooty Grouse, with the Ruffed Grouse being found in the aspen groves and the Sooty Grouse in the more coniferous forests, similar to their respective habitats in the Pacific Northwest irl. Having both species of Blue Grouse (the Dusky and Sooty) on the same map is not a great idea, because they are very similar to one another and it's actually pretty difficult to tell them apart irl. To help them to feel more like different animals, I'd put the Dusky Grouse exclusively on Silver Ridge Peaks, and have the Sooty Grouse on Layton.

Also I think three marmot species is a bit too much, having just the Hoary Marmot would be fine. The map also doesn't need two different turkey species either imo, just the Merriams is fine (or they could just completely replace the Merriam's Turkeys with Rio Grande Turkeys I guess). I also wouldn't support adding wolves to Layton unless they get changed to have much more realistic behavior, because their aggression and pack hunting currently would make them a bad choice for a beginner's map.

Everything else in your original post is stuff that I would support adding to the map.

strong jewel
#

I understand and I see what you are saying, I don't come from here so I base myself mainly on the maps of the areas where the animals are found, which is why I took the two dusky grouse (including I understand what you mean because what was the hassle of doing the research on them) and then for the wolf I thought of a visual improvement and the intelligence of the AI because it was too aggressive, a real wolf will be afraid of man and will not will attack him very rarely. For the Rocky Mountain Elk, as I often say, there is a lack of species at the tops of the mountains and from what I saw it represented well because they go quite high, it would have been the only deer to be found on the Mountains, it would have been interesting to have the 2 species of elk in a map. For turkeys it is that in the eastern part there are plenty of interesting areas for turkeys (open areas) and there are none, whereas in the game they say which is in the meadows so it is for that a different species of turkeys in an area different from the existing one. Considering that I am not American or English or a hunter, I based myself on what others said where we spoke. I think the word backfilling is a bit confusing, I would say (and I'm going to change it) that it's more of a bestiary of what we can find in this region that could be integrated into the game. Hence the wide range of animals that you talk about and which pose enough problems for you. Finally I base myself more on mountain species because there are a lot of mountainous areas without anything, the 3 species of marmots are made for precisely that, a small mountain species and a large one such as the Rocky Mountain Elk or the Rocky Mountain goats...

#

It's more in fact a bestiary of what it is possible to see (even if as you say there is not much in terms of biome which is why I have difficulty integrating and make the areas where the animals are located because some it is true that they do not have their respective biomes at least one or 2 but it is not perfect If I had to keep only one marmot I would have taken the Cascades one and that of the Rockies I would have left it for SRP Otherwise I understand your point of view and I agree. It's not because I wrote Backfilling that it means that we will have to add all that next time, no, it does. it's about making an intelligent, natural, thoughtful pick that will adapt well to the visible biomes, the reliefs of the biome world etc....

I see the point in having many species but it's true that Layton lakes is more on the western side of Washington like the Olympian mountains, the cascades and the coast so let me tell you what I personally would add mostly because of range and habitat

-a marmot either hoary marmot or Olympic marmot or both.
-mountain big horn sheep
-rocky mountain goat
-sooty grouse
-mountain quail
-california quail
-ruffed grouse
-spruce grouse

And multiple waterfowl species I can eleberate if you want but mostly American wigeon, northern shoveler, bufflehead, Ross goose.

#

Wtf is bestiary?

I haven't yet done for these ducks and goose except for the Bufflehead but otherwise it's further west of Washington I'm going to see what's there there

a book that only talks about animals (in middle age anyway, I don't know what we call this nowadays)

#

A bestiary is a treatise, a collection on animals. Maybe I'm wrong about the word in English.

verbal garden
strong jewel
#

yes but a backfilling is normally that the species already present in the game, whereas here it is present species plus new species, like a sort of book on the animals present in Washington hence the fact that I I used this term, if you want I can put the title in:
Bestiary/Backfilling, to make it more understandable to everyone.

The dusky grouse is confirmed. So here it is if they decide to backfill it to Layton Lake District even if I know that some are not fans of this part of the idea. Bestiary because it means a collection of animals, but my goal is to show the different species of animals that can be put in this map. It's a kind of bestiary in itself. At least in my opinion. You're not the only one who has a problem with this word, Bestiary, what do you think it means?

#

In literature, a bestiary refers to a medieval manuscript containing fables and morals about "beasts," real or imaginary animals. By extension, a bestiary is a work devoted to beasts.

#

This is to emphasize the fact that my goal is not to say that all of these species MUST be present in this map but that they CAN be present.

rose crane
strong jewel
#

OK, maybe he expressed himself badly in this post where it is difficult to see this bestiary part that this can disturb or at least ask the question of why this word

strong jewel
#

Tomorrow we might have the last animals to discover, no doubt some will be visible on this map.

verbal garden
#

I still believe no one besides you understands the bestiary part

strong jewel
#

yet it's not that complicated, the bestiary is a writing about different animals with images. Here it is a writing about different animals with an example of distribution certainly not perfect but it is still an example. In both cases it is written and it talks about animals, you just have to not rack your brains.

strong jewel
#

Now that the pintail duck is announced, we can say that it can also be found here, in the same areas as where we can see the mallards.

strong jewel
#

I hope their made a few backfill animals for this map much in montains area.

silent ice
strong jewel
#

It's true that if they do a backfill for Layton Lake District, you have to focus on the mountains, there are so many mountainous areas in this map but empty without anything

strong jewel
#

Make sure that Layton's mountains are useful for something, after all they form almost half of the map so half of it is devoid of life, which is a shame.

strong jewel
#

It would also be cool to rework animals like the Roosevelt Elk, because the Manitoba Elk is very very beautiful

verbal garden
strong jewel
#

Yes, I remember, it's true that the mountains of the Layton Lake District are not bushy enough, they have no grass and there is only snow.

verbal garden
#

Spruce (franklins?!?) grouse and ruffed grouse would work great in those mid elevation forests especially the coniferous ones.
Last but not least I think California quail would work super good in the very lowlands around where all the rivers and marshes are.

verbal garden
strong jewel
#

yes it's true mii I was talking especially about the peaks, when you really go to the very top otherwise there is enough vegetation and when I look at the real place which is inspired by it it looks like it I think. why is Sunderpatan not perfect?

verbal garden
strong jewel
#

Oh yes, that's true, I forgot that, it's true that it's full of trees and grass at the very top

and also one of the most beautiful in my opinion

It would be interesting to have rather mountainous animals for this map being access more to the mountain than to the plain. Or to increase the possibility if it is possible in real life the maximum level where an animal can be seen in the heights of the mountains. Because it is a shame to climb such beautiful mountains without having life.

There is quit a large debate on wolves in Germany because they like to eat livestock so they are very controversial. Especially because there is 2000 to 3000 wolves concentrated on a relatively small strip which is a lot for such a small nation with so little old habitat remaining

after what he can put directly if they do a backfilling it is undoubtedly another type of turkey, because we can find another one here, or at least a bird that we see very little in the maps of the game.

The Rio grande wild turkey

I’d rather the Merriam get remodeled, two turkeys for a map is unneccessary

after maybe a bovid if it's possible, but it seems to me that no, would be cool to have, personally I like bovids, even if I know that all the maps can't have them, but hey, if there exists (in my memories, no) a bovid around this place why not.

Yes bovids in the sens of cattle. I forgot to mention this, in fact, sorry. But then I like all bovids in general, whether gazelles or sheep.

I think so, that's why I'm probably wondering if there's something else, but well, what's more, in my memories there are no plains or forest bison, I'd have to look if it's known for these wild cattle

The Layton Lakes District is claiming 10 more species, just like Asky Ridge Hunting Preserve.

strong jewel
#

The question is who will be his 10 animals

strong jewel
#

If you had to choose at least 10 animals from all those mentioned, which ones would you choose? Personally, I would have added some birds of all kinds. I would have focused on mountainous areas with at least 2-3 species including rocky mountain goats, marmot(s) and probably another goat species. Then the rest would be small creatures like badgers, probably another species of rabbit (even if I'm not a fan).

strong jewel

It would be cool to add more life in the mountainous areas and some little critters in the forests.

Exactly

It might be interesting to see the beavers on this map.

Why not this good looking animal

strong jewel
#

It would be cool to see him. The Northe. Shoveler. He's very funny. It has subspecies that also have beautiful plumage.

strong jewel

Don't worry, he's smiling.

My last post was about the American badger, and now we have the European one, so we'll probably see it one day.

strong jewel
#

Why not now that we also have the little American mink.

strong jewel

The american mink and pine marten can could be backfilled in Layton Lake district

strong jewel

the ruffed grouse, or the cousin of the dilophosaurus.

strong jewel

The good looking Colombian Sharp-tailed grouse

strong jewel

Why not the Fisher and the Wolverine in the Layton Lake district? I could be talking nonsense, though. If they're aggressive animals (judging by the look of one of them, I think so), it could be interesting. From what I've seen, they're visible there. Whether they're rare or just passing through, I haven't found any information on that, sorry.

Okay, thank you very much for the information 😀. So I think the best creature of this type that could be in the map is probably the American badger. Or the three species of marmots; I like the idea, it's similar to the ibex in Cuatro Colinas. Or why not the Canadian lynx, but I highly doubt we'd see it in this map.

Once again, we're featuring the mountain peaks of this map, but this time in a different style: the white-tailed ptarmigan. Just a very beautiful bird with that plumage, simply wow!

Oh yeah Layton and Hirsch badly need a backfill

Ok, i finally fall in love of this birds. So awesome. Here the Blue Grouse

strong jewel

2-3 birds of the goose or quail type would be good for this map

Harlequin Duck needs a remaster, like many other species, so why not focus more on animals that desperately need an overhaul?

strong jewel

The Olympic marmot. It's a species endemic to the Olympic Mountains in the region where Layton-Like District is based, Washington. Being endemic to this area and these mountains, this little ball of fur could be a nice addition to the map. We could find it in the higher areas where there's nothing in the base game; at least it would bring a bit of life to the map. Plus, we could perhaps add the recently introduced burrowing system.

The Cascade fox, the subspecies of fox found in this area, is very beautiful.

Yes, 51, absolutely, but well, it's just pretty. Yeah, it's a shame there's only such a small population, but it could be a version like the Bengal tiger. Just 12 of these individuals, very rare to find. But yeah, there aren't many of these creatures, unfortunately. But sightings that are difficult to find, probably a bit more.

For the mountains, the bighorn sheem could be a wonderful choice.
