#PLEASE NO MORE BIRDS OF PREY!!!!!

I am honestly tired of people suggesting birds of prey. Here is why it wouldn't work-

  1. I can guarantee in the range of birds of prey there are actual HUNTABLE birds such as grouse, ptarmigan, quails, ducks, geese, swans or pheasants

  2. Birds of prey such as eagles fly THOUSANDS of meters in the air so tell me, how are you going shoot them?

  3. I and many others rather hunt with birds of prey than hunt them.

  4. Yes we have snowies and tigers but that doesn't mean we can have birds of prey. Those snowies and tigers were added because they were being 'problems animals'.

I can also see the appeal of hunting tigers and snowies even if I would be against it irl. I don't understand why someone would want to hunt eagles or hawks, closest thing we could get to them could be crows.

# severe cosmos I can also see the appeal of hunting tigers and snowies even if I would be again...

And Crows can legally be hunted with seasons in many parts of the United States

Alongside Crows, some other “unusual” birds (in the context of gamebirds) include
• Cormorants (Europe and some parts of North America as far as I know)
• Gulls (Places like Finland and Greenland)
• Auks (Puffins & Razorbills in Iceland, Murres in Greenland, Newfoundland and Iceland)
• Parakeets (Monk Parakeets in Argentina for sure and Mountain Parakeets in Peru as far as I have been able to figure out)

#

But I am glad this thread has been made 🙌 💯

Had no idea gulls were hunted anywhere. That's pretty cool

I also just remembered that in Tasmania a bird called a “muttonbird” aka the short-tailed shearwater that can be hunted

Its called muttonbirding

Well there's another reason not to add birds of prey

We've still got a bunch of gamebirds that could be added first

Bringing this back to the top

Additional Reason why Eagles/Owls/Vultures should not be added

They were not hunted for Sport IRL

They were hunted for the following reasons
• Feathers for things like arrows and ceremonial purposes
• Body parts for “Traditional Medicine”
• Posing a Threat to Livestock (Eagles, Hawks and Owls can, most vulture species don’t unless carrion becomes rare)

Tigers have been hunted for sport (among other reasons)

I would like to see a bald eagle flying over the lake in the Yukon Valley, but it would be costly to include it in Call of the Wild. Or it would be treated as a protected wildlife animal, where if shot, the hunter would receive a penalty with loss of experience points and a fine of thousands of dollars.

I'd be fine with hunting crows as that's something I did irl a few times, they taste decent but not great.

But on the other hand absolutely frikin not. Crows are the loudest and most annoying birds I've ever had the displeasure of hearing and I mean in flocks/mobs/ murders or anything else you want to call them they will do their best to bust your ear drums and alert every animal within fifty miles of you.

Please don't bring these flying alarms into my game

I want them as wildlife on maps. It seems strange to have empty forests with birds of prey and no vultures in the mountains.

PLEASE NO MORE BIRDS OF PREY!!!!! (AND CROSSPLAY SUGGESTIONS!!!)

#

It's impossible to add cross play unfortunately, so please stop suggesting it 😭

zealous folio
#

A post about why people should stop suggesting Crossplay should be its own post

I say it should be made into a sever rule at this point.

Yeah a post explaining why Crossplay will not work and therefore why people should stop suggesting it should be good enough

The concept of hunting eagles feels weird as hell

Birds of Prey refer to 3 groups of birds
Strigiformes (Owls)
Accipitriformes (Eagles, Hawks, Vultures, Ospreys, Secretarybirds and Condors)
Falconiformes (Falcons and Caracaras, the most taxonomically distant from the other two groups)

And while these three groups are considered very seperate from one another, they have more in common with each other then they do with gamebird species like ducks, turkeys and geese

For anyone unfamiliar with this thread here it is a post talking about why birds of prey like eagles and owls should NOT be added as huntable animals

# grizzled dove wouldn't the posing a threat point be an argument for their inclusion as that's ...

To respond to your first point: Tigers were considered a game animal (albeit one that was hunted without limit) and at the time Sundarpatan was announced Nepal was considering reopening tiger hunting (the timing was interesting but tiger hunting remains illegal in Nepal) and the one tiger in the story was posing a threat to human life and their behaviour in the game seems to combine their territorial nature and the fact they occasionally see us as prey

For your second point, that would fit any other game, the Hunter COTW is more of a "simcade" (I saw someone describe COTW using that term and it kind of fits). I have heard that goose and turkey feathers are both good for arrows

Oh btw let's not forget about fulmars, hunted on Svalbard, the faroes and Iceland
