After revisiting Rancho del Arroyo again recently, I realized that there is an occasional rattlesnake rattle that can be heard in the background. Given that this reserve is set in Mexico, I realized that this could be a neat opportunity to add a new species to the game as a huntable animal: the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox)
Western Diamondback Rattlesnake
- Class: 1
- Difficulty: 1 (Trivial) to 5 (Medium)
- Weight: 1 kg to 7 kg
- Trophy Type: Length
- Trophy Organ: Tail/Rattle
Note: If possible, I feel like giving it a sort-of TruRACS system for the rattle size and segment count would be awesome, but totally understandable if this isn't possible
Behavior: Reclusive, alert, easily spooked
Habitat: Fields, dense brush, deserts
Senses: Strong sense of smell and vibration
Social: Solitary
Active: Most active at dawn and dusk. Can be found basking in the sun during the day
Recommended Equipment: Class 1 Ammo
Species: Crotalus atrox
Similarly to rabbits, I would imagine that they could be found around their own dens, and when spooked they'd retreat to them. However, if the player gets too close, they could try to find cover (like Ring Necked Pheasants) and rattle loudly and try to bite the player (making it the first dangerous class 1 animal afaik)
The opportunities for multi-mounts could be really cool too, featuring Coyotes, Mexican Bobcats, Ring Necked Pheasants, and Antelope Jackrabbits
