I had the idea of since we have had a 44 magnum rifle since last year, why don't we add a 357 magnum rifle, and we could do the double whammy of adding a 357 magnum rifle, and paying tribute to the hunter classic by basing the 357 magnum rifle off of a winchester 1873 or copy, since that's what the orig 30-06 rifle in the hunter classic was based off of. Could have it set to hold only 6, or could have it with the realistic capacity of around 14. Power for the 357 magnum doesn't have to be increased much for it, but the zeroes probably should be the usual 50, 100, 150 meters

I would kinda support the idea behind more a 45 colt lever action but 357 would be fun aswell

A 357 buff would be good

I think the 357 is fine power wise, it's supposed to be about three quarters to half the power of 44 magnum, and that's what it feels like in game. I just feel it would be awesome as a small-medium game rifle with high penetration, and maybe to give a reason for it over 44, in exchange for that drop in power, make it shoot flatter past the farthest zero

#

Also theoretically if they did add the 1873 rifle in 357, should they let us use the modern scopes but have them mounted like on the M1 rifle or 7.62x54?

Here's another possibility for a .357 mag, Ruger has been making these bolt actions for decades and they are awesome

something like that yeah

slow solar
#

we already have a 2-6 bolt action anyways in the form of the 243

gilded python
#

I think the 1873 would be better for .45 Colt, it's a 2-5 anyway and it would match more with the Rolleston

slow solar
#

Ah well, I don't see why the couldn't release both then, make the 45 version a long barreled traditional version that uses the 4-8 helios scope, and make the 357 a shorter barreled modernized 1873 with a picattiny rail ahead of the ejection port

Taurus made their circuit judge in .357 magnum as well

slow solar
#

eh, a lever action rifle that holds 10 or 14 bullets seems more enticing, and we don't have that many levers yet

gilded python
#

Well, there's also Colt Lightning replicas in .357, it's a 12 round tube but I seriously doubt EW would give any weapon that many rounds. Also, we have no pump action rifles at all

slow solar
#

That might work as well, and you forget the 10mm. A tube fed 10/14 rounds kind of balances itself in making the reload super long

I think they're looking at pistols and rifles very differently.

The old lever actions also have way less ammo capacity than equivalent rifles and the slower reload too

slow solar
#

In that case they could model the rifle having a 24-26" barrel, but only having a half length tube that holds 6-7. and the old lever actions came out with the game and they probably should increase the capacity eventually since they seem to now be giving rifles the actual capacity and not having you load them with only 3 rounds or 5

#

I will also point out the 30-06 rifle in THC, which is a 1873 despite erroneously being chambered in 30-06, had a long barrel and full length tube

Yeah, I suggested they strip the base game rifles from the game and rebuild them with the skills they have now between update

marginally more powerful, you still won't have the power of the 44 magnum revolver

#

it'd drop animals maybe 5% faster?

this is cool af. i do see this just making the .30-30 useless though.

#

butttttt there's also lots of rifles that are made useless from other rifles (ahem .223)

slow solar
#

but you see, the 30-30 won't be useless because it still makes level 4s-6s drop a bit faster

opal vale
#

True. But handgun rounds generally are good when it comes to their class range. If it can take 2-6, it can still easily take down a class 6, unlike the .243

I only use it on class 2s. Hits super hard on them

I think the bleed rate on a red deer with a 243 or 30-30 will be higher than that of a rifle 357

opal vale
slow solar
#

you'll have to just try using a 357 on a red deer vs a 243 at 100m

opal vale
#

I would but i can't for a couple weeks

slow solar
#

I also feel like "it'd make the 243 and 30-30 obsolete" isn't a reason they won't add a 357, because look at how many 4-8 rifles we have as an example, and most people use either of the 308s, meanwhile only 2 2-6 rifles

#

and besides, dlc rifles are supposed to be better than the base game of the same class range

opal vale
#

It for sure won't make the .243 obsolete. The .243 and 30-30 are basically on par with eachother, with the .30-30 just being more of a fun gun rather than the meta. But it would also be slightly worse than the .357 since it has better penetration

slow solar
#

I think the 30-30 has more expansion damage than the 357 magnum? I swear it put down whitetail quicker with a single lung shot vs a double lunch with 357

#

Nevermind, the expansion is same for 30-30, 243, and 357 high penetration ammos
