#Backfills Requiring Lowering the Populations of Existing Species is NOT a Bad Thing IMO.

Jaxy keeps warning us about this fact as if that would be a side effect we would not like. I for one would welcome lower populations of some species. I would rather run into a variety of species rather than the same old species all the time.

The first thing that comes to mind are predators. Many maps contain species of predators that feel overpopulated. Lowering them for backfills makes sense.

From what I've seen, the mechanics of the Snow Leppards has only received positive reactions from the community. What if each map had at least one species that were similar?

Below is at least one backfill for each of the older maps that could use one and at least one species that I believe could handle a decrease to make way for the backfills. (Don't get too caught up on my suggestions. This is just for proof of concept purposes)

Hirschfelden:
Add - a Duck species
Reduce - Red Fox
Layton Lake:
Add - some Mountain Lions (with
Snow Leppard mechanics) and some
Badgers.
Reduce - Black Bears and some Moose
Medved Taiga:
Add - some Artic Fox and Snow Geese
Reduce - Brown Bear, Lynx, and some
Moose
Verhonga Savanna:
Add - Some Ceetah (with
Snow Leppard mechanics).
Reduce - Wigeon (reduce to west coast
and southern third of the map.
Parque Fernando:
Add - Marsh Deer?
Reduce - Puma (add Snow Leppard
mechanics).
Yukon Valley:
Add: Dall Sheep and Willow Ptarmigan
Reduce: Grizzly Bear, Red Fox, some
Moose
Cuatro Colinas:
Add - Red Legged Partridge and
Pyrenean Chamois
Reduce - some of the Ibexs if even
necessary?
Silver Ridge Peaks:
Add - A couple class 1-2 species.
Reduce - Mountain Lions (add Snow
Leppard mechanics) and Black Bear.
Te Awaroa:
Add - Tahr
Reduce - Red Deer if even necessary?
Rancho Del Arroyo:
Add - Bobwhite Quail and something
else?
Reduce - Bobcats
Mississippi Acres:
Add - Another Duck and some Coyotes
Reduce - Gray Fox and Black Bear

Don’t reduce any ibex from cuatro. Each species has a low enough population already (I herd manage them).

And of all the species on Te Awaroa… ducks, turkey, and red deer need it the absolute most.

With the way some of the home ranges are setup, the map could feel completely dead at certain times of day if they lower the populations. It could be really tricky to strike the right balance. I myself like seeing animals and having more action. I don't want to walk hours without running into stuff. I feel some maps don't have enough populations as is already.

I'm ok with backfills but don't want to lose populations to do it.

They keep asking in the surveys what system people are using. Hopefully at some point people move to the newer consoles and they could add more animals without reducing the population. Jaxy said the old consoles are holding the population back.

As far as the species you listed goes, here is what I will say

  • Snow Geese barely live in Siberia to begin with as they only migrate into Wrangel Island from North America, which leads to my next point: The part of Siberia that Medved is set is way too far from Wrangel Island and the map is set in a time of year where the local goose species (Tundra Bean Goose, Brants and Red-breasted Goose) are all down south, plus the Yamal Peninsula is also home to both Willow and Rock Ptarmigan
  • While Marsh Deer do live in Argentina, they only live in the north of Argentina, and with Parque being set in Patagonia, I will suggest the larger and more impressive Pere David's Deer
  • As far as Rancho goes, the Gambel's Quail would fit the map more then Northern Bobwhites since Gambel's Quail can be found in the deserts of the American Southwest and Northwestern Mexico (Which includes Sonora, which is where Rancho is set)

Cheetah are very different from snow leopards.

A better backfill would be actual leopards

Please don't get distracted by the backfills I wrote at the end. Thats not the point of the post. The point of this post is to gauge general opinions on if we mind that some species get reduced to make way for backfills.
