At some point I'm sure the vast majority of players will be on Next Gen consoles like PS5 and Xbox series X/S and players on PC are probably past that point already. Other games are already in the market actively or at least releasing soon.
I'm not suggesting that the game end support for older consoles but I do think a lot of players would be really happy to have a version more suitable for their system whatever it might be.
Maybe the update could bundle some maps and older weapon packs into the base game, maybe add something entirely new. A render distance change would also be a welcome upgrade for a lot of players. Animal behavior and AI could use some work. The ballistics system is a total mess and causes headaches all around. The class system needs a lot changes and more sensible assignments for most animals.
Some of the changes could benefit older consoles too, that was the case for Skyrim and it's anniversary edition. It broke mods for a few weeks but actually improved almost everything.
I wouldn't pay new game prices for this, but if it was reasonable enough I'd be happy to pay for the work it would take. Some new weapons, gear, and features could even be applied to make it more appealing.
Let me know what it would take for you guys to consider upgrading
