#I would like to suggest a solution to the new update, though I don't know how possible it is.

Wouldn't it be better for the community as a whole, to avoid these types of arguments and freak outs, to let the player choose their own respawn rate and spook radius?

I've never designed a game before. But in theory something like a slide bar setting could work.

Something like turning the hud on and off or changing track color.

Spook range: 100m---300m
Respawn time: 15min---1hr
Etc.

I just see everyone arguing over this update, and as a newer, casual player, with little to no trophies and no real desire to grind, I see this as an easy fix.

Hope this gets some traction. 🤷

Choosing spook radiuses is not a good idea.

Why not

#

It's opening up the game for all players to play how they'd like. Just saying it's "not a good idea" doesn't mean anything. I'm not saying allow for 0 spooking, but a 100m minimum like in my example is completely reasonable.

What it would impact is trophies. And then you create a “you got that g1 on easy mode” and I don’t think ew would go for that.

But if some players are happy with having longer respawns, to make the game more of a realistic simulation, why should we exclude those people's opinions? More zones maybe but that really depends on what species. Some of these maps are PACKED with zones already lol

I just think it's more of a compromise my way. If I wanted a realistic hunting sim, I'd rather the option to set my respawn time than just having 15min or whatever the devs decide is best. I'm saying this is the best compromise for all parties.

#

If we're relying on the devs to make the best choice for all players shouldn't we all just accept this new update lol

I don’t see anything wrong with slider bars. I mean at some point more people are just going to install cheats and mods and then the game will truly die. The challenge and fun will drift away, and so will the game.

What's the problem with mods anyway? If someone wants to hunt TRex on vurhonga who cares? Maybe they could limit modding in multi-player, but I'm on Xbox so I don't even see mods. Whole point is we should be able to play the game the way we like, and the devs have unfortunately created two distinct forms of gameplay, so why not appease both groups by making an adjustable difficulty setting for these things?

there is also no support at all whatsoever for mods in COTW. A number of people had their games break completely with the release of Sundar, to the point where they had to manually delete everything and start all over.

The devs didn't think that so many people would want to cheat in a hunting game, which is why there wasn't any protections on it.

#

and yes, it sadly will remain an issue for COTW. It's honestly why I would not complain at all if they decide to shelve COTW in favor of a sequel game that has stricter protections.

I don't really see it as cheating. Is modding armor in skyrim cheating? We're all playing a single player hunting simulation. If everyone wasn't so obsessed with competing over trophies with strangers online this wouldn't even be an issue. Why restrict the way people want to play the game they paid for?

Here's the problem with using sliders for game difficulty and its the same problem as allowing mods or coding to prevent mods .... Both make the game more difficult to code and to fix or replicate bugs that come up.
The more difficult it is to fix bug then the more dev staff they need to support the game ... The more staff needed for support the more it costs to support and maintain ....

Mod support can also bring bugfixes from the community. Like all those unofficial patches for skyrim.

EW is no where near the size of Bethesda (skyrim ) .... And even Bethesada will not support a modded game .... They allow it but if you have modded your original install then you are on your own ... As far as support goes ....

If my hunting experience doesn't affect yours, why wouldn't you just let me start those sliders at zero?

cedar jay
#

I wouldn't really care honestly but why would you want that? I think 100m spook distance is reasonable, no? None of this affects either style of play much, it just allows more people to customize their own game. So sure, make it 0 - 1500m for all I care, the ideas the same.

So you're just setting up directly on zones, fast traveling and destroying everything and then do that over and over? Fine if that's what you like but then why not just play call of duty lol seems to me it would just be boring. 🤷

It’s a game very obviously marketed as a hunting sim🤷‍♂️ end of discussion.

I get that too, multiple people don't like how slow moving the game can be. But walking 100m in game takes about 12 seconds so is that really killing your love of the game?

I get not wanting the 250, I always find it a pain in the ass to find a spot to place a tent in that exact distance. But they've since lowered it to like 180-200 after fixing this patch.

Can we not devolve this into some dumb conversation about grinding or not grinding? I'm trying to bring a possible solution to light that I've never seen brought up. Go bicker elsewhere.

#

There's literally 100 posts about this today, why hijack my post when I'm actually trying to be productive? You're both being toxic.

Then my advice would be to no longer engage. Idc what your guys opinions are but I want this conversation to be about actually coming to a solution. Just making 0 spook radius because you want it isn't a solution for the whole of the community.

Way of the hunter does something like this where the various difficulty modes affect spook radius and also your hints. If there were 3 or 4 difficulty levels that were visible when you were joining a multiplayer server that wouldn't bother me. People want a standardized game mostly because of the percieved value of the trophies, even though there's no economy around it, you don't trade them, you just play for yourself. Personally I would always want to play on the hardest mode with as much HUD off as I can, but if people want to make the game easier for themselves that wouldn't bother me
