It's been a long time since we had a community challenge for a nice reward. Having an Apex account has given us a few nice rewards but it's been a long while since we got a big payoff for working together. So, this is my suggestion for a challenge and a reward worth our time and effort.

The Challenge is Apex Predators, 25,000 Gold Bears or Big Cats.

The Reward is a .338 Locke rifle (buff and revamp the ammo as .338 Canning Magnum), a bolt action .338 with 3 rounds in the magazine and a classic hunting rifle style, for just 4.5 units of weight

This assumes a year to complete the challenge (and time for the devs to make the rifle). This would be a solid reward for everyone, the base game players get a good rifle to use on moose and bison and the people who don't like the Tsurugi for one reason or another get a new look to their .338 bolt action

Let me know how you feel, is the challenge too much or too little?

Is 30k too much or too little? I don't know enough about grinding to say

Hello Huxley Hound,

Thank you for your detailed suggestion about the Apex Community Challenge! We appreciate your enthusiasm for community events and rewards. Your idea for a challenge involving Apex Predators with a substantial reward like the .338 Locke rifle sounds exciting and could definitely add a new layer of engagement.

We’ll take your suggestion into consideration as we plan future community events and rewards. If you have any more ideas or feedback, please feel free to share them through our support portal. You can submit your suggestions here: https://support.thehunter.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

Thank you for contributing to the community and for your continued support!

Changed to 25k instead of 30

As an optional skin/reward, I'd love to see this rifle with a really obvious bite mark and claw marks on the barrel, like it really did guard someone from a bear

Changed the OP slightly to .338 Canning Magnum to show its just the big brother of our .300 CM bolt action

Cmon guys, it'd be a free rifle

It’s a nice rifle, but how your suggestion of how you’d get this is different and that’s creative! Thanks Huxley. 🙂

This could be a really good way to add to the base game honestly, not just with a bolt action .338 but a ton of other possibilities.

Aside from .338 this rifle also comes in .30-06 so that could be great too

I still want a different .338, one that feels like a proper hunting rifle

I love the idea of having a reward mechanic using the challenges

Most of the reason I'm pushing this is that the tsurugi does not feel like a hunting rifle to me. I haven't even claimed it from the store on my new playthrough because I know I'd just never use it. There needs to be options for every caliber that are similar but different enough to interest different people. At the moment because the .338 doesn't feel like a hunting rifle for me personally it's like it doesn't exist in my game even if it would be better for certain scenarios.

Honestly .338 Lapua was a really stupid caliber to choose for a hunting game in the first place but way of the hunter made the same dumb choice. They've just added older rifles and calibers for people who don't like shooting from 400 yards

I enjoy the single shot 338 more though I used the tsurgi b4 I was able to get the single bc it was free and with my playstyle I dont get credits as often as some ppl. Honestly it bothers me we automatically get the weapon packs free. I'd rather buy the packs and then have to purchase them in-game as a progression means. It really bothers me that there isn't much use for the credits other than taxidermy, consumables, cosmetics. Sure you could get more tents & stands maybe some more decoys but that's about it. I mean I guess for skill & perk resets as well but you get my point. I remember making goals to buy the 300win, 470 nitro, 338 being the 3 highest value weapons. Now their given to you free of charge & I hate it.

Challenges for new weapons for the base game would be a good thing, encouraging people new to the game and old to do something... a 1-3 rifle would be unique and I'm sure many would participate to help the community.

How many years has it been since the last time? 6? I think it was the .270. Correct me if i'm wrong

i never noticed but I had alot of time in between playtimes. But still pack weapons shouldn't be free in the store is my issue. Once you buy a pack it should be listed in the store but you should still have to buy them just like the base game weapons is my complaint. Its too easy buying a pack n getting it free. But thats my opinion I like striving for goals when getting equipment.

#

You should only get free weapons as a reward, but thats my opinion. However, challenge reward weapons would be nice to earn. My only issue is if its timed. Bc not everyone would be able to get them, but if its through a series with no time limit challenges then ppl could earn them on there own time & pace.

The idea for this one is a community challenge, something all the players can take part in at their own pace and get a reward for everyone because it's applied to the base game like the Stradivarious was.

You actually gave me an idea though. A small selection of rotating challenges for specific weapons that will be put into the base game. Let's say 12k turkeys harvested and you get a single shot 12ga, it's not particularly unique but even just shooting birds as an opportunity thing could earn you the gun.

Maybe you could opt out of challenges you aren't interested in as well

would basically be equivalent to 3 weapon packs you can earn in-game.

Designing it is easy its applying it to the mechanics and core code, thats the hard part. They have the foundation model to work with but breaking it down to 3 parts would alter coding in ways we cant begin to understand unless your a coder n good with tech. Creaters create the content like art, animation, audio etc. Then it goes to another department to be coded then applied and tested. Once polished they'll add it to an update/ patch to apply it to the core code and the time can really vary depending on the content and the teams focus. But if I'm being honest if the team really focused on it I'd say 2yrs. As of now they are able to do 1 map & a pack or 2 a yr if you put that into perspective & the depth put into it.

#

However, if they keep it as is and simply adjust the caliber range. 30-30 2-6 (current) to 3-7: 2mo. if that; because they're simply adjusting the code unless their engine is really old and clunky then it could take 6mo-Year. to make a new code. I mean it took them several years to rewrite the code from scratch when they fixed the bug.

small ginkgo
#

If I was to make an honest guess, they probably have 20-50 or so in staff. If it was bigger with funding I kind of doubt they would keep adding content to this title for this long, but instead would be focusing on a remaster up-to-date version or 3rd gen title with a more powerful engine to have more freedom & tools to work with for development. But they cant update it bc the engine is too old they said so themselves and they keep prices as low as possible out of passion over profits unlike other developers. So I doubt we'll see any changes to the caliber tiers let alone more ammo after 7yrs in thus far unfortunately. But I do believe it would be applied to a new title once they have a better engine & more staff. Though I have some hope & faith they will find a way & prove me wrong, I really hope they do.

small ginkgo

But back to the thread topic I think 9 total is fair if not 6. A weapon reward for each category: Rifle, Blackpowder, Shotgun, Pistol, & a Bow. Then the 6th reward for completing all of them is my thought. Another option add a new challenge every 6mo, meaning 2 challenge rewards a yr. This would allow the team to add 5 new weapons a year over the 3 in a weapon pack, excluding a reserve unlock. Think this option is more realistic without taking the team's focus away from the yearly agenda. Your thoughts?

small ginkgo
#

If all you do is add a new weapon to an existing caliber all you're really doing is a reskin thats about a 2mo design if that bc you already have a foundation to work with. However, if you're using a different action the additional time for the animation could be closer to 6-8mo possibly.

grim moat
#

This is, basically, a re-skinned .300 Canning Magnum Marches that uses the (SHOULD BE) more powerful .338 ammo. It should be a pretty simple conversion compared to a whole new design and ammo that would have to be built from the ground up

We would love to bring back bigger community challenges in the future so it's great to see that players have not forgotten about them too. Tbh, I think it would be pretty hard for us to nail them right away in terms of difficulty or length so your thoughts on this are very welcome 🙂
