Im sure anyone that plays cotw that hunts/shoots with firearms irl knows that bullets come in different grain weights along with their construction (like soft point or polymer tip present in game) so my suggestion is that starting with the .375 H&H and maybe also the .300 blk and .450 we see their ammunition types in grain weight instead of soft tip or polymer tip.
The examples i have for the .375 are 235gr, 270gr and 300gr bullets. It was said by professional hunter Gregor Woods in his book, Rifles for Africa that .375 H&H with 235gr bullets could be used on game as small as springbok up to distances of 300yds therefore the 235gr bullet would be a class 3-6 ammunition. The 270gr bullet has been used on all sorts of big game from white tail to moose thus 270gr bullets would be a 4-8 class ammunition. Finally, 300gr brass solid bullets are for big game like Lion, Buffalo and Elephant therefore it should be a class 7-9 ammunition type. My hope is that the cotw dev team might consider this and by giving firearms improved ammunition and more types of ammunition that we might see some life given back to forgotten weapons like the .270 and the .338

Bows, shotguns, and the muzzleloader already have ammo dependent classes. There’s no reason rifles can’t.

To go with the .270 example, 130 grains are the standard bullets, usually loaded in a way appropriate for pronghorn, deer, and debatably elk. But you can easily find 140-150 grain bullets that are more appropriate for elk and maybe moose, and hand loaders take 150+ grain bullets into even more moose-appropriate ballistics. On the other end there are 110 grain high velocity loads that are great for coyotes at longer range. So right there in real life you have analogues to make .270 swing from say a fast, low penetration 2-4 to a better than current 4-8

3 types of ammo for rifles and handguns is not too much to ask

I agree and I also talked to Huxley about this topic as well as in my own thread https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1259103456858210414 In my ex. I used the .308win: 110gr T: 2-3, 168gr T: 4-6, 180gr T: 7, etc. With the additional options to choose: Soft Point, Polymer Tip, Hollow, & all Copper for various expansion, penetration, and effective range scales for various Game making it possible for players to have more utility to their preferred caliber with the exception of the few that do already though if you want a rework to blackpowder and bows. Bows could have various broadheads instead of the general options we have now and blackpowder would also have various grain weights though I think black powders are balanced as is however a red dot would be a nice addition to the Inline.
