this dog ai is so obnoxious, please for the love of god change the ai to avoid walking infront of you. the amount of times ive been trying to take a shot while proned and my dog will walk right infront of me and REFUSE to move, quite literally i'd given the lay down command while the dog was in a decent spot, but then it went out of its way to ignore the command UNTIL it had walked directly infront of my face. SO ANNOYING!!!!

You need to get into the habit of making the dog lay down.

You need to get into the habit of making the dog lay down just before your target is alerted. Takes practise but its doable,

it takes very little coding to make the dog avoid standing infront of the player, its not an unreasonable request to make, and it would be an amazing QOL change!

honestly it feels as if the dog is purposefully getting in the way sometimes, i know that its not, but it feels like it does

I feel your frustration but it'll probably take less time to learn how to use the dog properly. Should never be a problem if you're creeping up to prey. The only time the dog is in the way now is occasionally with tigers but that's because the tigers are stalking you and the dog points out its direction by placing itself in between. Maybe this is something the devs can look at.

In settings, you can add a keyboard command to "Lay Down" (or any other of the dog's commands). You'll not even have to bother with the radial menu at that point.

I suspect there is more to this players issue than just generic dog AI because I'm not having these problems .... Is there a certain animal or type of animal that your hunting when the dog exhibits this behavior ???

The reason I ask this is because, I think a tweak was recently made to Dog AI which would cause them to face in the direction or get between the hunter and an animal that has gone aggressive ….

From the most recent patch update ..... Dogs will now bark in the direction of incoming threats when warning the player, rather than barking at the player.

Neither am I. I had a couple of instances with the dog getting in the way of a tiger but shifting to the side resolves this issue quickly and in time to make the shot. On one occasion, I wasn't fast enough and got mauled. Would be helpful to have more information about which animals are involved and what is the method of approach, i.e. walking, creeping, crawling to that animal or is this about facing off a tigers?
I'll test the lay down function later but I'm sure my dog responds pretty much immediately. But I do always lay my dog well before of where I want to take the shot, which is what I should have elaborated on in my first response.
Could also be a bug issue for Support...

I always hunt with my dog but also rarely shoot while prone because of the terrain collision issues .... So this may be why I haven't had this problem .....

Same. Never shoot prone unless you're at a smooth water edge. Always crouch. I often shoot from a tripod though. It takes a bit of skill to use the dog but the mechanics should okay. I figured out how best to use him by trial and error. There was a heck of a lot of misinformation about spook ranges etc on here that was very confusing in the beginning. I can't remember which dog skills might be helpful though. Are there any good content creator video guides?

I would also suggest making sure your dog is fully bonded and contented .... As I have heard reports from others that this seems to make a difference in behavior .... However my Dog should be walking zombie by now because I always forget to feed ...
