I think the base game really ought to have something that can shoot level 9 animals ethically that isn't a breech action. It is quite limiting in terms of hunting when I can't engage more than one target before needing to find the next herd. Perhaps something quite expensive that is less effective than DLC options as to keep DLCs relevant while making the game more enjoyable for poor peeps.

Clip fed? How about .458 M1 Garand.

You can use the Lever Action .45-70 from the vanilla game. It's 4-9 and has a capacity of 3 rounds. And the best part: ammo is very cheap for this gun.
