When I purchased Sundarpatan on release day it was the only DLC on sale. Standard practice for franchise sales and major DLC releases led me to believe that if there wasn't a sale simultaneous with the release then there wouldn't be one, and I purchased the Assorted Sidearms DLC at full price.
Two days later the franchise sale started. I'm not sure why it was delayed like that but it seemed to be the exact use case for Steam's "The game is available for less now" support category, so that I could refund it and buy it at the cheaper price. However, my refund requests have been rejected by Steam because I played more than two hours since the purchase (I was excited about the new map, so of course I did).
I'm not saying the delay was intentionally deceptive to get customers to commit to the full prices while they were already there for Sundarpatan, but I also can't think of a good reason for the franchise sale to not start at the same time as the release. I'm actually kind of surprised Steam allows that sort of thing from publishers because it feels dishonest and can lead to disappointing situations like mine.
It's only a matter of a couple of dollars but what concerns me is the principle of it, and whether going forward I can trust EW to conduct business in a consumer-friendly fashion. If there's any way EW can reach out to Steam support in favor of honoring a refund in this situation I'd certainly appreciate it.
