#BRING RACCOONS BACK TO CLASS 1

Irl, Raccoons are commonly hunted with small calibers suck as .22 or Birdshot. In game, we can no longer shoot Raccoons ethically with these calibers due to a change in February, 2022, when the first AR pack released. Please, EW, consider returning Raccoons to their former glory.

raccoons being class 2 allows me to shoot em with a .243, that.... doesnt seem ethical lol

The amount of raccoons ethically shot with a .22 in Appalachian hollers EVERY DANG DAY far surpasses the entire population of Malmo, Sweden.

The change to class 2 for raccoons is on par with some of the greatest affronts known to human kind. It is something so beyond cruel, I cannot even fathom the depths of depravity one would need to reach in order to commit such a heinous act.

I was talking about this in mine, along with some other stuff

Honestly I would love 22lr being class 1 to 2 as irl it can be used on red fox at certain distances. Then bump 22h to 1 to 3 with a little buff to it

I support this, they would be great to have back at class 1

I enjoyed being able to hunt them with the shot gun and not having to worry about getting vitals please bring them back to class one

Is there like, local lore as to how he ended up with 15 raccs begging for hotdogs?

Okay, foxes weigh the same as raccoons so shouldn't they be class 1 as well? At least I think so, because I have hunted them with a .22 lr before. There's YouTube videos of people hunting them with .17hmr which is an even smaller bullet

the only thing left if we remove raccoons and foxes would be bobcat and musk deer, coyotes and jackal

They are the smallest class 2 animal as well, I've shot jack rabbits as long as foxes too

Beavers can weigh 50 but a .22lr will take them. Red foxes are the only ones I've hunted and I've only ever used a .22lr and taken body shots

As someone who has hunted and trapped them, this is a complicated point. Coons can get quite big. I understand why they're not Class 1. I would agree with bumping up the effectiveness of .22LRs and maybe creating special Class 2 size bird shot. You don't use trap loads on these things if you want a clean kill. Probably no smaller than lead 4 shot or steel 2s.

Body weight also doesn't account for how they are built either. Foxes are generally long and slim, with thin hides and delicate bones. They don't hunt bigger animal like deer a coyote, only rabbits, birds, and smaller things like mice and voles. The .22lr should be plenty fir them and it's preferred by fur hunters since it won't damage the hide but it makes a clean kill

I firmly believe 22LR needs to be 1-2 & 22H needs to be 1-3 to be authentic esp. after birdshot was bumped to 1-2. With that said Grey Fox should be reduced to C:1 & scaled down in size being < 10lbs. Coons make sense in 2 being > 10lbs.

I believe only the new 10 gauge birdshot was made class 2 but yeah grey fox should moved down a class due to their size but no one would be happy with it. Fox and coon are hunted with .22-250 and .223 a lot.

To those saying .243 and .30-30 are overpowered for raccoon are just silly. .300 blk is way less powerful than either but is class 3. Yes .22 works and I’ve shot them with .22lr irl but you need to hit the brain to kill them instantly. .223 and .22-250 disable them almost instantly same as fox but y’all ain’t complaining about fox being class 2

.243 and .30-30 are over powered for coons irl, the .30-30 especially tends to tear them apart. You can use the .223 and .22-250 but you don't because that's idiotic. 90% of the coons you take will be shot over dogs and close up, you will be aiming up and centerfire. 22s can kill people miles away if you're stupid enough to try that.

Speaking from experience with them, a .22lr is more than enough. A proper lung shot will kill in about 2 mins and ruin very little meat. The reason nobody complains about foxes is because they are on the ground and make for safer shots with centerfire rifles. They're just as frail as anything else in class 1 and in the fur trade they've got the nickname paper skins

Class 1-3 is supposed to be small game < 50lbs. The 22H is rated for that. Class 4-5 50-300lb medium game, 6-8 300-1500lb large game, 9 Dangerous Game &/or Heavy weights as their also referred to from some seniors I've hunted with. However EW's C:1 is birds & hares < 10lbs except Geese & Turkeys, C:2 10-30lbs, C:3 30-50lbs etc. We can all agree the classes are not ideal & are far from authentic. But yes expanding calibers ammo is my solution to authentic game range. EW took the game categories and broke them up to 9#'d classes and sadly failed to do so accurately.
