#Ammo Swapping to add variety

Simple. For the original cost of the rifle, you can change it to use a different caliber.

Let's take the .270, either "color", as our example. I really love the iron sights but the caliber doesn't have as much power for taking down the animals I really like to hunt. So, I go to the store, choose the Huntsman and choose "custom caliber" then change it to .30-06 fir another 12k making the total cost 24k.

I won't even pretend, this is to combat the problem of having so many 4-8 weapons. Letting us change the calibers around will make sure we can use our favorite rifle with effective ammo no matter what gets added

(Let's be real, it's kinda boring to use the same gun all the time just because it works best)

💯💯💯

cobalt mica

Yes, this would apply to nothing but the rifles

cobalt mica
#

Just a thought.

Since we have to download it all anyway, this could give base game players access to a few new rounds

It is quite weird .308 and .30-06 aren’t base game…

cobalt mica

This could also apply to the Cuomo and jernberg pistols too.

Gimme. 308 cuomo

I really think this could be a fun mechanic

So this is a mechanic in ultimate hunting and there's no class system so you have to make the choices yourself on what to use

Kinda like what they did with the caplock it's only a class 1 change but it's still a good idea

This would have been a better choice than most of the poll options

Re:Ammo, I wonder if we could get a "collect your brass" skill which I imagine might give a small discount for ammo,

Oh? I didn't know that sorry, I'm still really new to the game

cobalt mica

This would at least give incentive to use the base game weapons more.

You could change the 7mm Regent/empress to 9.3x74r and avoid the drilling's weight but still get a great rifle.

You could change the .270 Huntsman to .308, .30-06, or 7mm just to change things up.

The Moradi .44 could be a .357, .45 Colt, or even a .454.

You'd only need to own the dlc with the caliber you want to use and the weapon you want to change. It's not making anything obsolete so much as giving a new way to use what we have.

cobalt mica
dapper harbor
#

It's a really good idea I hope one of the developers sees this thread

cobalt mica
#

All the bolt and single action rifles could be changed but if you had the dlc and this is actually employed in the game you could switch the Cuomo pistol from .243 to .308 or the jernberg to to .338.

dapper harbor
#

I'd pay for that dlc

cobalt mica
#

I know there would have to be restrictions but I still want this

cobalt mica
#

So I've just realized how badly we need this. Take for example the Caversham 12ga, it's break action and easily switched barrels make perfect sense for this. You could switch it between all the shotgun calibers except .410

A 10GA over under using brass shells or the newer plastic ones would be an actual monster for hunting class 9 animals in a new and terrifyingly close engagement.

Next is simply the introduction of a Falling Block rifle (you could use the break action single shots from the base game but this would be cooler) you could chamber for any rifle or handgun cartridge from .223 to .470 and .357 to .454

I won't lie, most players wouldn't care for these two weapons but the few of us who would absolutely adore the opportunity would be ecstatic for it. I'd happily pay six dollars or more just to change the caliber nevermind what the in game currency cost I'd to actually do such a thing.

Please EW, at least try this for the long term players who've loved this game since it released

Hey EW,

Consider this, if you added a feature like this then not only could you just add new calibers as a dlc, any new guns would benefit from it because if someone doesn't like the caliber of the weapon they can swap it or if they like the caliber but not the weapon they can switch it to a rifle they like. Either way, everybody gets to enjoy the dlcs

outer cape
# cobalt mica Hey EW, Consider this, if you added a feature like this then not only could ...

This could work with virtually every gun already in place. The 45 cavalry to either 38/40 or 44/40 or 45 schofield, the 45-70 lever to 444marlin, the 30-30 coukd change to 38-55, 32 special, 25-35, 35 remington. Obviously lots of the bolt guns and semi-auto’s woukd be easiky swappable. I feel it would be easier to add new rounds rather than an entirely new gun each time. Of course some calibers would work with some guns better. For example there are 30-30 bolt actions but its definitely better suited in a lever gun. Or obviously you cant fit a 338 into the 22 pistol. So theres limitations to an extent 😂 we’ll see what ends up coming about

#

I also wish we could change barrel length/styles too. The 357 in its description says its mostly a defensive handgun. But i would not want an 8+ inch barrel for defense from a handgun if i had the option. Same with the 10mm, 454, and i’d like a longer barrel on guns like the 45-70 and maybe some shotguns to be changed too

Also i wish we could top load. Fresh mag/tube plus one in chamber. It would make a big difference for guns like the 30-30, 45-70, 10mm (especially for wolves) and some others. And i agree.

OK, taking the Huntsman rifle as a base game weapon weapon. .270 is default but you could change it to .30-06 or .35 whelen for a major upgrade, or downgrade to .25-06 for class 3-6/7 hunts. All these calibers are in the same family (all of them are based on the .30-06). These are long action cartridges, like 7mm magnum, 7x57mm, .280, .300 magnum.

The Olsson is an example of a short action. Default is .308, but you could change it to .358, .243, .338 Federal, .260, and 7mm-08 are all in the same family, .308 is the parent case here.

These would be easy choices for upgrading any rifle. In case you aren't aware the break action guns, the original 7mm and 338, as well as the cuomo and jerberg, could be quite literally ANY caliber of rifle or handgun ammo. .22lr to .470.

The same is true for the Caversham shotgun, it is by default 12ga, but could be 10ga, 16ga, 20ga, eventually 28ga if it's added.

Gamekeeper 10ga slugs with the 3-7 scope as a bear gun? Yes, please EW

cobalt mica
#

Same could be said for the Ranger .243, starting the game a player can rely on the .243 to take any deer they happen by, but if they take an interest in bigger game they either have to wait until they can get the .270 or buy dlcs.

The option to swap the caliber of the Ranger to 7mm-08 for 3-7 for 4k or .308 4-8 for 8k allows them to have a great rifle early in the game that might make them enjoy the game more

According to what I have seen on the Holland & Holland website for reference, with the Express King rifle in .470 Nitro Express, it could adopt another barrel to allow the use of the .300 caliber from the .300 Canning Magnum rifle, and it could also adopt another barrel for the future .375 H&H Magnum caliber. This wouldn’t take away the essence of the Express King rifle with these three calibers. However, I think the King rifle would lose its essence if fitted with a barrel for a much lighter caliber, like the .243. I know there are single-barrel rifles for the .243 caliber, such as the Rifle Express Alpine Hunter, because I wouldn’t want to acquire a King rifle with a barrel for the .243 caliber. I look forward to hearing your opinion.

Personal choice.

The .470 cartridge has one class and only one class it covers, 9s. Considering the number of class 9 animals in game, the fact it can't equip a scope, it's weight, the low ammo capacity, and the .375 that's on the way, no one uses the .470 very much at all.

It doesn't need to be a .243, and honestly it would be way more useful as a 9.3x74r, 5-9 classes would make it usable on several different maps and more animals than ever.

This mechanic would not be required or a mandatory choice, if you don't want to change a gun, simply don't change it. Personally, I dislike the Tsurugi .338, so I'd change the .300 Marches (wood stocked one) to .338 so I can have a more traditional style .338. It covers the same classes, doesn't change the weight, and has one less round in the magazine. But I like the looks more and it feels good to me.

You don't have to take it to extremes, but being able to switch between 2 or 3 different calibers in your favorite rifles suddenly makes them even more fun and personalized.

Yes? Are you saying it has to change the appearance of the weapon? The only major change between 30-06 and 7.62x54r would be the shape of the bolt head and a slight change of the magazine to accept the longer 06 cartridge. Outwardly it could look exactly the same.

Same thing applies to the Enfield rifle, during ww2 several thousand were issued in .30-06 and the only difference in appearance was a red band around the forend to differentiate them

severe haven

BTW, yes the M1 grand could use .25-06,.270, and .35 Whelan if they were ever added

I believe the Gandhare Rifle is inspired by the Martini-Henry rifle (image on the right). The Gandhare Rifle could offer another caliber option, such as .303 British cartridges.

This post requires thorough research to achieve coherence among a range of possible cartridges for each weapon. There are some weapons that have exclusive cartridges.

I feel swapping calibers should only be done on a weapon that it's realistically possible to do. Like Winchester 1895 in .03-06 and 7.62x54R (among others). Just the first weapon to think of since I was just on a post about Roosevelt. We don't need a 22lr firing .308... That would be a bit much. But ammo swapping definitely should be a thing, especially because the 7.62x54R I think was exclusive to a weapon pack so the ammo wasn't in base game either. This would open up a lot of options and allow a player to get all types of ammo unless it was exclusive to a DLC weapon that only had a single caliber. A few of the DLCs I bought strictly because a weapon fired a certain type of ammo, But in the case of some iconic weapons like the mosin I bought it because it was interesting to use. Unfortunately not every player has the ability to shell out $50-60 and still get a DLC, Even if they are quite affordable. So this would provide a good middle ground. I'm all for it!
