Great One Mule Deer for theHunter: Call of the Wild

After the newest Great One being announced as a DLC only Great One, I think we need the Mule Deer Next.

My reasoning (besides wanting one) is the Whitetail deer has been done, but Mule deer are just as majestic and beautiful. Adding them could please a bunch of people. And get some people into them.

Some antlers for them could be influenced by the old Legacy racks, and very big deer that have been hunted, I will also draw some furs and antlers for them. I also wish for a Velvet antler variation.

There would be 2 different track weights for the Great One Mule deer

190 - 220KGs, small track. 200 - 235KGs, large track.

This could be a 'Great' addition to the game, the Mule deer also need a body rework, and after seeing the Water Buffalo and Blackbuck remasters, I believe they can become an amazing animal!

The Velvet antlers can only go with the Velvet / Summer coat

There could also be a Mule deer / Blacktail hybrid for the Great One, making it a more widespread Great One.

I think that a mix of both would be nice. Some realistic fur types, some that could happen theoretically but never have been reported, and some that just couldn’t exist.

It is 100% But after watching today's stream,I'm very concerned. Just meaning the amount of focus from the team on just adding weapons,the nit picking of barrel lengths,ect., seems to take more precedence to the animals. Seems most players only care about a specific weapon and the skins to weapons and the skins of tents over the actual animals. I've created posts asking for WT rework and that seems to be less important than what our tents and weapons look like. I'm an avid RL hunter and feel that "looks" to everything but the animals is more important than the animals. JMO

@elfin stump your work is absolutely amazing! Can you do your magic on WT? Myself and so many others have asked for just nontypical WTs,outside of GOs, added as a form of diamond for so many years. Maybe even just creating a lot of "typical" WT antlers variations would inspire the team to rework WT. Doubtful bit there's always "hope"

Have you considered doing a large typical rack based off the Burris Buck that's nearly perfect in terms of traditional scoring but super tall and wide with loads of mass? Here's a picture of the skullcap on a table for reference. It scored 226 4/8ths inches and remains the only buck ever scored to exceed 220 inches after deductions.

The typical rack that you posted in this most recent round of sketches looks pretty similar but not quite as extreme with the mass.

100% Same here Cervid!! Long overdue. I like these last few GOs that literally revolve around fur variation,but let's be honest,IRL nobody chases animals for fur variation. Is trophy hunters chase the antlers!

I love that idea. Instead of 5 fur variations for a GO,you could have several "typical" variations amd several "nontypical" variations. Would be amazing!

I get that just creating "fur variations" for GOs is easier for the devs to create,but at the end of the day that's kind of lazy. Instead of skins for our tents and binos,put that time into antlers. Just being honest. I'm not bashing but skims only get looked at for fra tions of seconds where antlers are cherished and can be viewed over amd over in a lodge and create real life memories even if it's just a video game

Fur variants are ded special. I'm def not bashing that. Just that lately fur variants seems to be the company's "easy GO creations". I have no idea how much work that goes into creating GO antlers but it's worth focusing on the antlers. Now if say when TK was CM he talked about "scared up" grizzlies that's different. But just splashing some different patterns for the "main attraction" for a GO is,well,meh.

I agree, the Tahr are nice, but I just don't get the excitement I would get with a monster Mule deer or Elk. I get way more excited with Whitetail GOs than Tahr. Give me some monster antlers

For sure. Totally agree there. But at the end of the day at least they got some antler variation and furs. Like Bama said the tahr are just blah. Yay there's a lot of different furs but,well yea. At the end of the day. For a year of development was very disappointing. Just my opinion. Def didn't make me want to dive back in amd play the game for hours and hours and hours to try amd find one. The only thing I lived about the tahr GO was actually having to chase them outside of water. Was a great change.

I will say the Scars Great One Tahr has to be my favorite fur ever, its so realistic and cool! Like it escaped a Snow Leopard and lived. I want furs like that, like the Ashen, I wouldn't mind a leuscistic or melanistic inspired fur, but yeah the moose was disapointing, after years of people wanting it, it was a letdown.

This is on Antelope Island in Utah, most of the biggest deer in the state are there or the Oak Creeks, San Juan or Zions. I did not take this picture but these bucks are sweet

All of these bucks are from the same place, the genetics are so good that pregnant does or young bucks from the island are taken to other good units to strengthen them even more! It's a cool bit of info I think ya'll would like.

I wrote the same comment in another thread: I think the Mule Deer would be the elected species for the Great One because this species has 4 maps while each Elk subspecies has one map. I see each species that has G1 has many maps as you know.

Alberta was home to the World Record Mule Deer, a.k.a. The Broder Buck. It scored 355 - 2/8. A true monster buck. I really hope with Askiy Ridge, the brand new Alberta map we get the Great One Mule Deer. As much as I love some of the Fabled furs Expansive Worlds makes. I feel like many people who hunt Mule Deer IRL and in-game would prefer just antler variations. Like the Whitetail, which is just a bigger bodied Whitetail with 6 different antler variations. I would be just fine with that. While I'd like a couple more, 6 is perfect.

But as I said, some people do not enjoy the Fabled furs, they may like some, but they like the ones that look realistic, i.e. Ashen Moose, Scars Tahr, Piebald Whitetail, Glacier & Spirit Bear, etc. Furs like that can actually happen in the wild. Not from some fantasy world like the Spruce Moose, Latte Tahr, and most other furs. As well as some antler types, specifically the Spider or non-typical Moose antlers. Can that happen? Yes. But is that what I think of when I think of a giant Moose with enormous paddles and fronts? No.

The reason I drew furs and antlers is because I wanted feedback from the community. I did a mix of realistic, and slight fantasy furs. Not anything from a book or a T.V. show. That is what I want, and that is all I ask for the Great One Mule Deer, which, would most likely be very popular among the players. Even just a Mule Deer remodel would bring a lot of the player-base back. Including me. I really hope it is the Great One Mule Deer me, and about 400 people have been asking for.

I'm going to pick my favorite 6 antlers and fur types.

Same. And these new models remind me a lot of the rut-swollen necks of November bucks I've seen IRL. The antlers could definitely be a bit better, but this is a big step up for the Muleys.

I agree with that. As far as immersion goes that 1 pic it looks like they have a "pin head" now. Plus on SRP and RDA the "rut swollen" neck looses affect so to speak. I chase WT,Mulies,BB,moose and geese in the game amd RL. WT are so sad,mules have pin heads😂 The only thing that looks consistent is geese,BB amd moose at this point.

I'm glad they got some love but wished they invested the time into the antlers. So sad the lvl 4s are way better than any lvl 5 mulie.

Yeah, and the various mule deer maps have different seasonal feels to them which makes implementing this model onto SRP, RA, and PF difficult. IRL, it's a subspecies and seasonal difference. Not sure these models would like right on at least Rancho, and it's almost too early season-wise for them to look natural on SRP.

That said, as a South Dakota rifle hunter, these models look the closest to the Muleys I hunt. Just wish the antlers were better and they bounced. Got to credit WotH quite a bit for how they designed their Muleys.

Heck yea!! So sad they don't jump/bounce like in real life. Even worse is the team could never get WT tails to "raise the flag" like WOTH has both features incorporated in that game. Both WT and Mules are amazing in that game. That teams taking a monster undertaking to revamp the game amd mechanics. People bash that game but the teams try so hard to bring "immersion" to the forefront. I like this game but the teams missing these fine details and focusing on pleasing the map requests versus focusing on "replayability" which is sad.

It's the craziest thing now that I think about it, but yeah I'm only just now realizing the WT on CotW don't flag. I've been playing this game for years and I'm only just realizing that now! 🤣🤦‍♂️ Might be because I honestly lost interest in them almost immediately. Love hunting them IRL, but this game has way more to offer than them and they're overdone.

I got my WT GO very quick (literally just finished setting up stands and tripods), so now I only shoot one or two when I come across them and feel like it. Lol

Alright it took some digging but I found the fur that looks kinda like what we can see from the teaser of the new g1

Just add some white to the rear of the concept art and that looks like what we can see

And look close there is white on the back of the front legs, and the back legs look a little bit like on the concept

You can try to find a better one that matches if you want

now if those stripes were a different color, like a lighter shade of brown, then I think that fur type could look pretty good. But the black tiger stripes just look really unnatural. Hopefully we'll get some better-looking fur variations.

They don't look real, cinnamon looks like a tiger, and the twist antlers and the velvet antlers look so stupid I hate them. There isn't even one like the Broder Buck, or ANY real life big deer.

This could've been the best Great One ever, and EW threw it out the window for some fantasy deer, with antlers that are unrealistic, or they chose ones that look bad. WHY? These aren't beautiful to me, some people might like the craziness of them. But not me, and certainly not most people who hunt Mule Deer IRL.

Don't know what everyone expected they would do with the G1 Muley .... All the G1 from Moose forward have had unrealistc and fantasy furs .... They werent going to stop doing that with the Mule Deer ....

Yeah that's fair but the vast majority of folks like or even love the moose and fallow racks, many of which are deadass impossible IRL

Plus several of these are based off real deer

top left is based on an individual with overactive osteocytes causing palmated bulbous antler while top right is a rack shape youd see in a deer experiencing live failure from fluke infection

I am not a fan, Great Ones have always looked odd at times but now they are just getting ridiculous. If we start seeing animals like those freaky glow-in-the-dark vale deer from Skyrim it would be pretty funny though 😂

as far as furs go we havent really had realistic ones since fallows got theirs like almost 4 years ago, and even then a few were rather heavily fictionalized. The track record since moose has been wild unrealistic furs, and getting new albeit fictional furs is preferable to just recycling color-brushed versions of existing commons and rares just to have the fur be realistic when the racks are as crazy as they are

The racks I’m fine with as they’re more like hunter classics non typicals ( minus the ball/broccoli/club rack ). The furs are meh. Tiger stripes being the worst of any g1. G1 fox and pheasant fur/plumage I’m fine with since they don’t have anything going for them like antlers, and even moose weren’t this far fetched. The 2 that actually seem possible are the petal puff fur ( minus the pink hue ) and the dripple drizzle as both of those look piebald

My first impressions on this great one:

1. Most of the fur types look unnatural and some just look downright ugly. The Dripple Drizzle is probably the best-looking one (I hate that name, but it's the only one that really looks good imo). Dusky Drift also looks decent. Cobweb Enigma is okay, I like the color choice but hate the pattern so it's about middle of the road for me. Milky Way is fine too, I once again like the colors but don't like the pattern because it's just too fantastical for me. Then you have Petal Puff, which would be fine without the pink hues that make it look like someone put blush on it. Cinnamon Stripes annoys me like crazy, the colors of the fur would be fine without the stripes, but no, of course they had to put flipping tiger stripes on it that just make no sense on a Mule Deer.

2. The racks are very hit or miss in my opinion. The rack that is shown with the Dripple Drizzle looks pretty nice, could use a bit more mass but other than that it's pretty good. It's the same with the rack shown on the Cobweb Enigma, it's fine but I wish there was some more mass on the main beams. Also the two sets of droptines look too similar to me, I wish one set had the thicker drooping ends while the other set didn't, just for some more variation. The huge rack shown on the Milky Way one is fine, sort of resembles a caribou from the side but from the front it reminds me of a Nontypical from theHunter Classic, so I don't hate it. The "heart rack" has a nice frame but it don't like the way it curves in at the top, it just looks like the deer has a chandelier on its head. Then we have the super curvy twisted rack which looks totally bizarre, it looks like a Mule Deer that wanted to have spiral horns like a kudu, or like a deer with vines growing out of its head instead of antlers. And don't even get me started on the fungus rack. It looks absolutely horrific.

I 100% agree. Just terrible antlers,terrible furs. Who's ever seen a mule deer irl that has a tiger fur. I hate that one the most. The only rack I like is the drizzle one. The rest are ridiculous. They obviously didn't see any of all the rl photos you've posted are drawn. Idk,I was soo excited to hear mulies were finally going to reach GO status after all these years bit have never been so disappointed. They're not even close to anything in real life. I'm so bummed.

Idk. EW artists can do whatever they want,but ill.just say it,they have no idea what they're doing. Furs are one thing but the antlers just suck. The last time they tried to create something GREAT with antlers was with WT and those were amazing compared to whatever "fantasy" racks they were trying to create.

100% There's absolutely nothing like that with these versions. I'm so fricking bummed. This chat has given them so many amazing examples and inspiration but yet what we get is "fantasy racks". I am dumbfounded at how they thought this was going to be GREAT. A GREAT disappointment. They want a "immersive" hunting game. Idk what you call what they've created here. Huge waste of their time. Sad that the "realistic snow" is more exciting than the new great one😭 😭 😭

I still think it was a bizarre direction to go in with this GO, but seeing that it does happen in real life makes it a little bit less annoying for me. It's still far from my favorite variation, and not what I think most people were hoping for with a Mule Deer great one.
